Final AP Poll is Out
One-loss Sparty gets stuck at #3, while two-loss Auburn remains #2.
FSU obviously received all 60 first place votes.
That conference that I refuse to name still ends up with 4 out of the top 7.
Other notables:
#12 Ohio State
#20 Notre Dame
#22 Wisconsin

I don't think they would have. ESPN did a mock playoff and they had MSU as the 4th team in.
January 7th, 2014 at 9:57 AM ^
I disagree. FSU just played their worst game of the season and beat Auburn despite the experts agreeing that the first half was the best Auburn had played all season. FSU has the athletes and skill players to make MSU pay for their defensive scheme. And on the other end, FSU would shut down MSU.
FSU's annihilation of Clemson at Clemson was by far the most impressive win on the season. They are a deserved national champion and I can't see how anyone argue that they wouldn't be the hands-down favorite in a 4 team playoff.

Just kiddng....
January 7th, 2014 at 8:22 AM ^
With all of our resources, this is unacceptable.
And please don't start...there's a big difference from being #1 and being unranked. There is certainly a large amount of "middle ground."
For Michigan to ever be unranked is unacceptable, period.*
*I'll give you Rich Rod's first year, that was understandable.
January 7th, 2014 at 8:27 AM ^
What's worse is, even if they had a top 35 we probably wouldn't be on that either. Makes me sick, which is why I have to find joy somewhere. In this case, I'll take solace in Sparty getting hosed by the writers.
January 7th, 2014 at 9:58 AM ^
In the end, being ranked number one is all that matters. As I stated above, there is no difference between finishing third and second in the final poll. Both rankings are 100% meaningless because the goal is to finish number one, which FSU did.

My guess is you won't like it, but you will accept reality.

Look, I can't stand MSU just as much as the next guy, and certainly cannot stand their football fans, especially during this recent run of success - But can we temper the "LOL Sparty" stuff a little bit? They just completed a dream season, one that we would've killed for, and ended up a meaningless #3 other than a meaningless #2 - the difference in one spot isn't going to kill their program, I am sure of that.
Attitudes like that towards Michigan State is a trait that is one major reason why many others, as well as myself, cannot stand our own fan base.
Let's pat them on the back, congratulate and push forward to better times when the tables turn back in our favor.

Thank you! I'm not sucking up to them no matter what the circumstances. Last night I said F ESPN and F the SEC. Today I will add Sparty to my list.

If you have read his posts over the year, you would find that he is always fair in his comments and criticisms.
January 7th, 2014 at 1:18 PM ^
Sucking up I am not - I would never do that to any rival, let alone Sparty. But give credit where credit is due? Sure.....sure, our program is light years in accolades and reputation ahead of theres. But at some point you are what you put on the field - Sparty has had a nice run the past few years, and have steamrolled us several times in the process.
Not much you can say against that right now.

OP comments of lauging at Sparty for finishing 3rd as opposed to 2nd are the acts of a five year old and bring disgrace to our fanbase.
Not calling anyone a disgrace but do state that the OP has the argument/opinion of a typical five year old.
I agree with your satirical view of the internet but would state my opinion in face-to-face conversation if that viewpoint was brought up when discussing AP top 25.

Ummm...what? If your definition of good discounts three 11 win seasons in the past 4 with 3 bowl victories in that time span, then I'm not sure where you're coming from. This team has been plenty good in recent years. Sure, they had some miserable years between 1988-2009, but how can you say they've "stunk" in the past few years? I passionately hate MSU, but I will begrudgingly admit that they've played some good football in the past few years.
BTW, their record in 1988 was 6-5-1, so you must be referring to their 9-win 1987 season when you claim the last time they were "good".

January 7th, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
I'm not young. I've been watching (and listening) to college football since the Rick Leach days. State was mediocre for many years, I agree. I think people took issue with your blanket statement that MSU hasn't been good since 1988, because, well, they have been good since 1988. Maybe if you inserted the word "consistently" as a qualifier to "good", that would've elicted less venom. No need to type a book.
I also don't think it's kissing their butts to acknowledge that they've had good years recently. Not sure how that equates to a defeatist attitude.

When's the last time we finished that high? Oh...that would be 1997.
January 7th, 2014 at 8:47 AM ^
Don't the BCS finalists ALWAYS finish 1-2. I thought that was automatic.
January 7th, 2014 at 8:58 AM ^
Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State (in the AP), Notre Dame was the final order.
If a team looks particularly awful in the BCS Title Game (like ND did), there's room to move them down quite a bit.

Seeing these puds have success is frustrating. I fully realize I sound entitled, but its getting embarassing to have years of success thrown back in our faces. In other words, they (MSU, OSU) finish elite seasons and make fun of us for 7-6 because that record is unbecoming for someone accostomed to dominating rivals.
This bro is about to tell a cool (but frustrating) story. I live in NC and took a meeting with a copule of consultants. We sit down, bitch about the weather, notice each others non-southern accents...we get around to schools and bowl games. My new consultant friends? MSU and OSU. I mean, fuck this. Back Home, I can deal. Not here. Not down here.

Sparty sux.
Only THREE 11 win seasons in four years? LOL. Dantonio has as many MEDIOCRE years as he does good ones LOL.
And dont worry NEXT YEAR their defense will be TERRIBLE!!!! They loose X PLAYERS ON DEFENSE!!!!!!
ANd remember SoME fans wanted NARDUZZI fired!!! firednarduzzi.blogpots.net!!!!!!!
Plus, you saw how BAD they were without Bulldog against stanford RIGHT??? JUST IMAGINE NEXT YEAR!!!!!
AND they cant recruit HAHAHA. LIL BRO!!!!
THe only reason they are good anyway is DICKRODS RECROOTING!!!!
Just getting them all out of the way so this topic can be 50% shorter!

Listening to the radio here in Knoxville, the question they were debating was, "Do you think this game proves that FSU could not survive an 8-game SEC schedule?" Amongst the points made were, "I think LSU would have a very good shot to beat FSU". Of course, last night I heard a Tennessee fan argue that Ohio State gets too much pub, and that UT had more victories over a top ten opponent that did the Bucks.
January 7th, 2014 at 9:39 AM ^
Not to be nitpicky. But USC ranked ahead of ND and ASU is pretty shaky. And yes I get that if you aren't #1, then it doesn't matter. But accountability dammit!
January 7th, 2014 at 9:40 AM ^
If there were a four team playoff this year, I'm not sure MSU wouldn't have won it. Think about that when you snicker their way at them being 'only' #3

Pollstalker didn't have all the organized data yet, but a survey of about 15-20 of the ballots actually sees a few voters who did in fact put Michigan State in the #2 spot with Auburn falling to #3, in their estimation. Byond that, not a whole of apparent variation in the Top 5 it seems. Occasionally, someone has South Carolina as #6 as well, just based on the ones that I looked at.
EDIT: Thanks for the catch (see reply to this post). Fixed. Fortunately, I can edit my own posts like that.
