Shane Morris Appreciation Thread

He wasn't a god. But he played well, managed the game for the most part and did not get much help anywhere else. And honestly, I am just trying to look at something positive right now.

I am numb. And this sucks. I have no answers, or even questions right now.

Kids got a cannon, made some good throws, stepped up in the pocket, and didn't look intimidated.

Bad news is he can't really read plays and has no touch. But those can be learned. He also lacks the running dimension that Gardner brings. Anyone who thinks there should be a QB controversy is a fool, but Shane will be a good QB for Michigan in a couple years. Has the physical tools to be great if he develops well.

Not to sound rude, but obviously he's going to lack the ability to run like Gardner. Mainly because one guy is a spread guy who is supposed to be a very good runner. The other guy is a pocket passer who most don't expect to be able to scramble. But, he does have a decent set of wheels on him, as shown by that one long run. He's not Gardner, but he has the legs to move the chains if needed.

He didn't fall on his face. He didn't look like Tom Brady circa 2004.

The one positive is that the arm comes as advertised. He can make the throws.

The one negative I could see was that he needed to have a clean pocket to make accurate throws. If he couldn't set properly, he struggled throwing down the field. It's fixable, but it's worth mentioning.

He could be great if we get a true QB coach and an OC that has a clue.   I worry about the results though with the schedule and the new conference alignment.  I just don't see Michigan competing for the division championship next year much less the conference championship.  And if next year goes badly, whoa.

No matter what, I thought Shane did fine tonight, much more poised than I expected and should be a fine QB in the future.

Actually loved what I saw from Shane. Wasn't perfect but no one is. Wish we could have seen some more downfield/progressions but that's play calling more than Shane.

I was impressed.  He made quick decisions (usually pretty good ones) and generally threw very accurate passes.  Shane's probably not going to start next year but he will push Devin and both guys will be better players for it.

The posts here will be intersting after every game he starts because as a gunslinger I can see him making great pass and some you just can't believe he even attempted.

Who would've guessed that the 1st start by this regimes 1st highly recruited pocket passing qb would lead the team in rushing? Well played Sugar Shane, future looks bright!

I've been on the Shane bandwagon since he committed. I still want him to RS next year and let Gardner be our QB. I think they asre both capable high-BCS caliber QB's to be honest. Good problem to have. Some points about Shane last night that I wanted to comment on. Accuracy seemed improved on the intermediate throws. There were at least 3 other times that he hit Gallon in the hands or Funchess in the hands that they dropped. Shane also seems to have impreccable footwork in the pocket compared to DG. Shane actually steps UP in the pocket and slides left and right and doesn't take useless sacks. He is also a deceptively athletic kid, which I knew already but many people didn't. All in all, congrats on your first start Shane. The future is bight for him.

The last time I saw a freshman QB step on the field, the offense melted down like a house of cards (@ nebraska when denard got hurt) and our season was in Jeopardy.

I'm excited for the future, and I think this comes at a time when we need any bright spots that we can find.

I liked that he made many of the throws asked.  The receivers are going to have to get used to catching bullets.  Here's where we are going to miss Dileo...

Going forward...I'm convinced our future rests entirely on a real running game.  Its the key thing we are missing and it locks us into mediocrity until we can throw off those chains and move forward.  Hoke should practice runs 500 times a day for as many practices as he can before App State.  And save 10 seconds for field goal practice 8-).

I scroll back to CMU when we were able to run like 10 straight times in a row down the field and I was filled with happiness.  I want that feeling back...every game..... at some point.

Shane looked great and should be proud of himself. He came undone a little at the end once the outcome was already decided, but he was remarkably composed. I actually think he showed much better pocket presence than Gardner. There were multiple occasions where pressure came an the pocket collapsed, and instead of bailing out--like Gardner almost always does--Shane cooly stepped up and finished the play.

Nice to see Shane make Lou Holtz eat his words at halftime about lefty QBs. It was a good game for Shane considering he was limited by his experience, the play calling and no running game.

to the Morris Appreciation thread is to suggest that our young and promising QB transfer to another school?  Thanks for that amazing insight.  Are you a Michigan fan, or a troll?

That gave me a lot of hope. That was a dime. He found a lot of receivers in tight spots, but they need to get acclimated to his velocity. <<Needs to be a catch phrase. "Acclimate to my velocity"

Shane looked like a capable QB in his first start.  I would like to see them RS one of our underclassmen QB's next year.  Both Morris and Speight seem to have bright futures, not redshirting one of them seems like a waste of talent.

For a true freshman with limited prior playing time in his first start under the bright lights of a bowl game, Shane exceeded all reasonable expectations. Congratulations to you Mr. Morris.
