Moderator Action Sticky #3

Submitted by Brian on

Hello. The previous mod action sticky was cumbrously long so this is a new one. What this thread is for:

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Update: There's now a Mod Action Sticky IV.

That guy is a valuable contributor. We're not RCMB to chase away people for not being fans of our team. Irish got chased away by board jerks. So did what's his name the guy with the cat in a lime avatar? And the guy with a major history slant to everything and liked Greek and Roman references.

I also miss him; we even talked about potentially watching some softball in EL together before that particular game was cancelled.

On the original question, why in the world would MGoBlog not be open to rival fans? Know who knows a whole lot about Meyer and OSU's three deep and ticket policies in Columbus and Woody Hayes? Buckeye fans. Know who that info is relevent to? Wolverine fans. To be honest, I don't even care if the person is a fan of athletics in general as long as they can add something to the discussion and act like a civil human being.

Jim Harbaugh Rumors. You have to make that phone call.

I believe the OP has learned the lesson about posting things that are not sourced and posting something that - according to a few people - was brought up as a little more pot-stirring by one Mike Valenti this afternoon. Two strikes and you're out in this case. It is probably time for this one to come down - I know BiSB said he would remove it, so I hope he is not offended if I do so here.

Not sourced from anywhere, and I don't see any way Texas hires a guy with a show-cause penalty when they could get someone actually able to coach without NCAA approval.

[Bucknuts post] Buckeye site piece on potential legal trouble for Lewan

As yet, no non-Ohio State (or other fan-based site - Scout message boards have it up, but it is simply a link to Bucknuts) site has either confirmed or added sources to this story which would seem to give it legs, so it might be better for the board if it came down for the time being. If the OP finds a non-fan site which carries this and has some better information perhaps, then it could return.

The story is now being reported by the Ann Arbor News.  They contacted the police and confirmed that Lewan is being investigated.

This means that the title of that post is inherently true - there is some potential legal trouble for Lewan.  Is there a reason why there hasn't been another peep on the board about this?

Makes you wonder if there's some sort of creative censorship being handed down from the AD or elsewhere.

As I mentioned above, if it started to appear and the investigation was confirmed by more sources that were not Bucknuts or Scout message boards, then that would probably be better for any discussion on the board. There's no censorship going on here, but merely the maintenance of a certain standard. Now that the Ann Arbor News has run with it (and with no attempt to fill in the gaps like the Bucknuts story, which is another reason threads came down last night), any future thread would likely stay.

The Communist mentality of the mods continues to ruin this site. Posters are like dogs you need to train them. If they don't like a thread they need to learn to just not read it. Time again a thread is removed because the loudest babies cry about it. This place is becoming America and the loudest psychos are making the calls and stealing the freedoms of the world.

No Gardner, No Gibbons.

This came to light yesterday and the thread is still on the front page. We're officially faster to get to these things than some publications though, which is actually rather cool.

Mitch McGary out indefinitely after back surgery

We'll combine the discussion into one thread. Hopefully, all goes well and Mitch gets back to the court as soon as possible - he will be missed out there, for sure.

Who still believes?

Coaching snowflake. It may be the final game for over 240 days, but we're going to hold fast to some of the content management standards as there is still other Michigan and college stuff going on and we should try to keep as much of it as possible on the board.

Mod Delete: formatting issues

This had been a thread about revamping the coaching staff, but as someone rightly pointed out, the plan would have violated rules on the number of coaches and also, from a formatting standpoint, it was a difficult read. One suggestion for the OP might be to switch to plain text and make sure that the paragraph breaks exist first. Also, at least in Office 10 and 13, I've never had problems with items that I wrote in Word converting directly.

Attrition can be good

Within the thread, the OP indicated that the "instigator" he had been chatting with was Ace Williams, therefore the thread comes down. If it there is Ace Williams, there is no Ace Williams.

The Ugly Truth. How can it be fixed?

I let this go for a bit, but in reality it is the same discussion that we've had virtually every week since the middle of the season and I am not sure how much more mileage these discussion have until we get more data.

Further, the premise put forth by the OP is inherently problematic. as one blogger pointed out:

OP wants an average of 10+ wins over Carr's last 3 years + RR's 3 years + Hoke's 1st 3 years.

Carr and RR contribute 42 wins. To have an average of 10 wins (not even 10+), Hoke would have to have 48 wins. (9 years x 10 wins - carr's and RR's wins) That's an aveage of 16 wins per year. You don't play 16 games in a season in div 1, not even if you play in the MNC game.

What the OP wants is impossible.

No Ace Williams things.

One week in the hole for the OP. Consider this my New Years present. People have been nuked or long-term Bolivianed for less.

DB coach Mallory reportedly interviewing for E. Illinois HC

It was the first thread, but the discussion is going in the second one.

Revealing quotes that might explain MSU's success (and Michigan's lack thereof)

I think the tribe has spoken on this one. I do respect the OP, but I don't know if this is going to go anywhere other than down at this point.

OT - Rich Homie Quan and MSU football

For the board's sanity, this one probably needs to go as well. I understand that the lyrics are controversial, but before the discussion becomes of a dissection of topics that are off-limits here, this is the safer move.

OT - Max Bullough

If an actual written story appears about the background of Bullough's suspension and it is sourced appropriately, I suppose we can run with it, but one's next door neighbor is not a source we can go with for a thread.

Don't know why you guys spent so much time trying to moderate this instead of just blowing it up. Theory has no basis in fact, and could potentially start rumors, e.g. "I read on MGoBlog that maybe a Big Ten PED crackdown got Spence and Bullough."

If you were iffy, the OP has a long history of bad judgment on thread titles and has demonstrated on many, many occasions that he doesn't know how to put reported news in context.

Do the coaches have confidence in Derrick Green?

At 38 downvotes and counting, this one has probably run its course on the board. Part of it may have been some misinterpretation of the OP's intent, but as a few people pointed out, the lack of Green in certain situations isn't necessarily a lack of confidence.

Ryan Shazier Entering 2014 NFL Draft

This was mentioned early on in the Miller thread, so we'll make Shazier the subheader, if you will, in that discussion and take the separate thread for this down. That way, all the current OSU news in one place.

Speculating about hypothetical future player injuries is usually not going to go well, and there really wasn't much else in the post. When an accurate title would be "Player X will probably be good and will probably tear an ACL," that's a no.

I don't think negging the OP takes away any points, though I could be wrong. I have heard other people say that since the points came back. I have negged OPs for varying reasons and it did not seem to affect their point total. This is since points came back.

Edit: I have just confirmed this to be true. Negging the OP does not affect the OPs points. The only way to affect the points is by negging a reply by them in a thread. Otherwise, you are just wasting your points negging him in the OP.

insinuating a recruit's uncle is looking for money and comparing him to a current pro athlete's father. I don't think this is appropriate for anyone much less someone we are still trying to recruit.

the kid can choose wherever he like to go and play, however, i too feel that this is smelling like a cam newton (highest bidder) situation.

"Struggled a bit in the game." Are you kidding me? had to play 10 yrds off the ball. ill take even a 3* WR running a rout on a 5* all day. Peppers will be a beast
