Are the days of the terrorizing Michigan defenses over? It certainly appears so on the recruiting trail for linebacker and DE, where Michigan has had much success in the past. Is anybody else concerned that the heart of our defense for 2009+ is a little 3 star guy? And that there's a noticeable dearth of ANY defensive end recruits? We can have 4 star defensive backs all we like, but if we can't generate any semblance of a pass rush or anchor our defense against heavy running games (see annual foes such as Wisconsin or Ohio State), we're going to be toast.

RR's defenses at WVU were actually quite good (#15 Rush defense, #14 Pass defense, #7 total defense all for 2007, all ranked above M... in the Big East take that for what you will). I don't know what this Shafer guy is cooking up with his newfangled blitz-happy defense (*gulp*), but if this is the personnel he's satisfied to recruit, I think we're in trouble. Any comments on the future of the Michigan defense?

Yeah, I was responding to the guy who made the original post. It's mind-boggling to just assume that Schafer or RR is going to take this team anywhere but up. skepticism is fine. But losing your head over literally nothing? Come on. I'm not saying M is the next USC, but let's play a game or two before riding the bullet train.

A wino is - for all intents and purposes - no better than a crack head. But, there is an undeniable sense of mystique about the wino.

Wait- I think we're all batshit insane (which is a good thing, right?), just not retarded. And to be honest, I was skimming b/c I spent the day being poked and prodded and that just jumped out.

The days of terrorizing Michigan defenses ended in the second half of the '98 opener against ND. We haven't been consistently great ever since. (Don't bring up '06; that team played a crap schedule for 11 games, then got shredded in the last two.) I don't care what our "mentality" was. Fact is, we have NOT been nationally-elite on D since '97. Do I need to recap the bajillion times under Carr we lost a game when our D collapsed in the 4th quarter?

Michigan has the #4 class in the country according to Rivals, so relax. We'll land a DE, not to mention I think Marcus Witherspoon, an LB commit from last year, played a fair bit of DE in high school and may make the switch so we sorta got a DE commit last year. As soon as Craig Roh, Sam Montgomery or DeeJuwan Wodsworth commits, we can all enjoy some peace and quit re recruiting.

He's had the HIV since the Fab Five's freshman year, aka my freshman year, aka the year your avatar won the Heisman, 1492. I remember one of my buddies skipping class to run out and buy his rookie card thinking he could flip it for a fortune when he died like a week later.

Yeah I'm a year younger than you and could actually tell you exactly where I was when I heard he tested positive. We all thought he'd be dead in about 3 years at that point too.
