Bellomy tears ACL
In stark contrast to my earlier post, Russell Bellomy has torn his ACL in spring practice. Can't be good news for being able to redshirt Shane Morris, or for QB depth or for Bellomy himself, obviously.

From the official Michigan Football Twitter account, he tore it Friday during practice.
Gardner goes down, the season is fucked no matter what.
Walk-on quarterback...I don't know much beyond that
6 | Brian Cleary | QB | 6-3 | 199 | RS Fr. | Detroit, MI |
Apparently Al's favorite book is The Mouse and the Motorcycle.
one other thing that sucks about this is Bellomy was probably really wanting to prove hinself to everyone this year. now he has to sit another year after the last time we saw him,it wasnt that great. tough brak for the kid.
Hoke has a big "I told you so" coming from Magnus's direction. Damn.
Well...I did say it numerous times.
Holy shit. My Angry Michigan ACL Hating God comment when the Jake Ryan story came out is no joke! F-ck you, AMACLHG!
Don't anger him anymore...appease him with sacrifices of virgins...or something
An April Fools joke. Say April Fools. I'm waiting
I think Roger Godell would be taking action and start to eliminate players running.
Not like Bellomy was going to play this year unless we were up by 50, at home with 2 minutes on the clock. Shane was always 2nd in line any ways. They just hoped they were never going to play him. Look for a walk on to handle mop up duties. Shane will only be used if Gardiner is seriously hurt (pray that doesn't happen).
I think the coaches lost all confidence in Bellomy in Lincoln. I still think Shane will be number 3 on the depth chart this year barring any serious injuries to Devin. If all goes well, he may still get that red shirt.
Well this is just circumstantial, but it might have been delivering one of the worst QB performances in Michigan history and subsequently losing his backup job.
Because he was the "backup" who goes in and takes a couple of snaps while Denard gets it together while Devin is playing at our thin wideout position because he's a good enough athlete to help. Devin was the "if we need to replace anyone for any time but God we hope we don't have to" backup. Probably very much like Morris would be treated this year. He's not burning a redshirt to go in and hand off at the end of games, but if we needed someone to play the second half of the season, it could be him. And it would be a disaster in any case.
Thought i read an article that proved exactly the opposite of what folks are saying... that the coaches were down on him.
Borges:
"He's gained some confidence back," offensive coordinator Al Borges said Tuesday. "He probably lost a little bit -- who wouldn't, I guess. He's had a really good six days of spring football.
From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130326/SPORTS0201/303260438#ixzz2PFdTKzy6
Ok well I guess I don't know what your definition of "lost confidence" is. He was the back-up, and after an awful performance he was moved down the depth chart. If your argument is that the coaches haven't lost confidence in his ability to make the team, then I agree.
I see what you're saying now, and I tend to agree. I misunderstood the post about losing all confidence.
I know the performance was terrible, and I don't necessarily mean that Bellomy could have done much worse, because I agree there's not a whole lot of room for that. I just mean that in terms of a player, it could be worse than Bellomy. If he was that horrible, the coaches would have gone after a second QB in Shane's class, some MAC kid or something.
It seems that the most prevelent argument for why Shane would be the backup over Bellomy is that he couldn't be any worse, which I disgaree with (and it sounds like you might as well).
I'm hoping this Cleary kid can be serviceable as a backup, either until Bellomy is healthy (which I bet he is halfway through the season) or Shane picks everything up. He has the size at 6'3" 200 and he's not your typical walk on in that he was recruiting by a handful of D1 schools out of high school.
Any graduated QBs who have a year left and could play right away that we could take as a transfer?
That was my first thought as well. Even a potential scrub just for depth and to allow for some possibility of redshirting Morris if Gardner stays healthy would have some value. Or to hedge against the disasterous possibility of Gardner/Morris being dinged simultaneously. Obviously you'd have to see attrition of 2+ before fall to put us at 84 and open up a schollie.
Jesus H. Christ. I feel like the only football news we've been getting lately is strictly bad news. Did we hire Danny Hope as an assistant and all of his bad luck has just followed us here?
Maybe we can still avoid extinguishing Shane's redshirt, and that hopefully we can just deliver mop-up duty to our walk-on guys. And fergodsakes, PLEASE STAY HEALTHY DEVIN!
Oklahoma backup QB Drew Allen is looking to transfer and is graduating in May.
I seriously have my doubts about Shane being a backup behind Gardner this year. Too inexperienced. Bellomy has some time in and is a year older although if Shane lights it up in training he could be ready.
Well I kinda doubt he's looking to transfer to another backup position.
What if the kid knows or has accepted that he isn't going to be getting a phone call from the NFL any time soon? If Michigan has a program that he is looking for (odds are it's at least decently rated, right?) and he just wants to play and be part of a team for another year, you never know. There are many things worse that can happen to you professionally (networking, exposure, etc.) than to become a part of Michigan academically and athletically.
I disagree. Being a part of Michigan academically and athletically is the worst thing that can happen to you professionally.
manball demands manball acl's.
This is terror.
Please
We are in the Final Four. I am very happy and have watched Burke's shot 12x today.
Will hate it come football season though.
We are also about to win a title.
Im scared of Fall camp if this is spring..somebody hold me
I am not sure of all the rules behind redshirting, but could they give Morris a reshirt and have him listed as 2nd on the depth chart? If something happens to Gardner (knock on wood it doesn't), then they would burn the redshirt and put in Morris?
all a redshirt means is that you take advantage of the NCAA allowing five years for four years of competition. If he plays (assuming nothing medical or "medical" happens) he'll have four years to play three seasons after 2013, then three for two after 2014, ect.
The only thing that matters is whether he plays or not. He could be listed as the starter all season, and it won't matter for redshirt purposes unless he takes the field.
Brady Hoke can't recruit players with strong knees. Bring Rich Rod back.
~Herm
(Is that how it works? I'm still getting used to the inside jokes around here)
But on the serious side, this stinks.
New rule: Everybody has to wear knee braces from now on. Yes, even the coaches.
but "~Herm" is a caracture account of an old Michigan fan posting on MGoBlog.

(Apparently his latest posts are very un-Herm like, though.)
I guess it could be considered trolling, but it is more of a schtick.
