US did not deserve that point

good result. Mexico looked the better, attacking squad, but we had our moments in the early going.

That's part of the game. We deserved a penalty against Costa Rica and didn't get it. Shit happens in soccer more than any other sport.
Huge performances from Gonzalez and Besler. That was Besler's first ever WC qualifier, and it was in the toughest environment, against the toughest team in the region. And he was almost flawless. Great effort from the whole team.

they are earned. and mexico didnt earn shit. no goals, can't win.

That was the sweetest nil-nil draw I've ever seen.
Sure, we got some breaks, but considering the squad we were fielding, this was pretty remarkable. Beasley with a yellow 7 minutes in made me think we were absolutely doomed.
I've got to get one of those shirts that Klinsmann was wearing. That was pretty killer.

always looks put together in an understated way.

Was Klinsmann wearing this?
March 27th, 2013 at 12:48 AM ^
Exactly. Where'd you find that? Great look, particularly compared to most of the tacky team gear.

It's a "Nike USA Retro Jersey - Dark Obsidian." Did an image search for u.s. soccer shirts and that looked right.
Found it, but it's sold out in wearable sizes everywhere. Bummer.

Hot damn. Say what you will about Jurgen Klinsmann so far but he's gone to Azteca twice and pulled out a win and a draw.
And Mexico has two home draws so far in the hexagonal. You wonder if it will haunt them.

Brad MotherFucking Guzan. Played his ass off. Great job to take a point tonight, and Besler and Gonzalez especially showed up huge.

I was impressed. Directing traffic, good angles, cool head.

Gutsy, gutsy performance.
Heros:
Gonzalez, strong all night and had a great save stopping a cross.
Zusi with that amazing recovery run to stop a free header.
Guzan for keeping an inexperienced defense organized all night.
Dempsey for playing 180 minutes in rough conditions ... heavy snow then high altitude ... when coming back from injury and not being fully match fit.
Beasley for fighting through an ankle injury and playing out of position.
And Besler for surviving his first international game at the Azteca.

Gonzalez and Guzan have to be the heroes tonight. Gonzalez showed why he will be a regular starter in the near future, and Guzan showed that he has the ability to potentially challenge Tim Howard. I'm excited for the future of the USMNT, and Gonzalez is a reason why.

I'm not much on knowing the tactics of soccer but I know a stout defense when I see it, and Gonzalez and Besler acquitted themselves awfully well today. Fine work in the middle, I don't recall too many threats from Mexico directly in front of the net.

Will be shocked if El Tri's coach survives this. Back to back scoreless draws at home to Jamaica and the US.
March 27th, 2013 at 12:41 AM ^
But it was pretty surprising that the fans really didn't go negative on the home team.

Huge draw! And so happy that for once the refs decided to screw someone else out of a penalty kick. I feel like it happens to the US every other game or so.
Did we ever get a look at the second one they were claiming? I thought Edu's was a stone penalty, he's about the only guy who stood out to me as having a subpar game.
and besides that he kept giving the ball up to them in the defending third. very poor from edu tonight.
Wow, can't believe we got away with a foul in the box in Azteca. But a VERY good result. I'll take it.
