OT - Texas HS Senior Benches 700lbs
HS kid almost breaks Larry Allen's 705lb NFL record as a 17yr old - impressive.

Guys, that is way too much weight. Y'all are gonna SNAP YO SHIT UP. If you're 6'2" or 6'3" and have long arms and try this, snap city playa. SNAP SNAP.

lol, how are the three of us not up voted more???
I know it says he doesn't juice in the article, but it's really hard to believe that he's not.
If you have to tell people you're not an alcoholic, you're probably an alcoholic.
Professionals workout their entire lives to hit goals like this...this kid is just developing and is already beating pro records set by fully developed adults? It's obvious that there had to be something artificial going on here... 5 fakes out of 5. He did it, but not without "aid." Sorry kid

Deer antler spray?

That was my first thought. There is no way.
in Texas it will
and he got a 72 on the ACT...?
pfft...he was probably using a shirt
March 25th, 2013 at 11:03 PM ^
Pfft, I know, right? Probably could only bench 135 without a bench shirt.

Maybe on a good day.
the kid weighs around 700, I will be less than impressed, and not surprised either. I mean it is Texas we are talking about.
That is..impressive, no doubt. I do wonder what that man-child can lift without the "bench-press shirt"? 600lbs, 650lbs?! Any olympic lifters out there have an idea?
(Also, jeebus, to bench that much one has to have a chest the size of a walrus. I'd be able to add 100lbs to my bench if I was only to lower the bar 5 inches. I don't mean that as an insult, more an observation).
To me, it is not so much the distance that he moved the weight, it was that it appears that his elbow didn't even bend 90 degrees. That being said, it is still impressive, but he did not bench 700lbs in my book.
So I guess a qualifying lift means your elbows must bend 90 degrees? Hmm, I guess I'll have to relay that to the powerlifting rules committee. I guess they don't go by your book.
Training with gear is a whole different sport than raw lifting. You have to know how to use a shirt to get anything out of it. Plus, you end up training a ton of lock out stuff since the shirt doesn't do crap at the top end of the lift.
And yes, the whole point of powerlifting is to find the most advantageous way to move the most weight. That's why you see a lot of guys with big arches in order to lessen the ROM. Make no mistake though, this guy is also probably a serious raw bencher as well.
I wonder if this kid knows there's a heart attack in his future. Probably before the age of 35.
PS. When he grunted all I could see was Jon Belushi. Made me laugh.
Whats his height and weight? Imagine him playing center..omfg...offer now please..funk can teach technique..right? Lol

He was really short and has tiny short arms. No way he's playing center or any other position on the line... not at 5'6". He's a wrestler at best.
March 25th, 2013 at 10:51 PM ^
Just because he can bench 700 lbs, doesn't mean he would be any good at football.
I powerlift. I'm 5'7" and 165. I run a 4.74 40m on the laser. Please, tell me again how we can't move...
Also, I guess you don't think any other athletes use steroids either?
Does he even lift?
My God. Does he look like this??

Article says the record is over 1000 pounds... What?

Mike Martin benching 500 at 4 reps is more impressive to me. Especially to be athletic and not a fat midgot. Plus his arms are more than 3 inches long.

Yeah, those damn midgots!
