#3 Seed: Still a possibility?

Submitted by Generic MGoBlogger on

So Lunardi hasn't updated bracketology since yesterday afternoon, probably for a reason. Since then, Syracuse had the audacity to look like a 2 seed against Louisville in the first half, and then get monumentally destroyed in the second half, getting outscored by thirty. What I'm getting to is, with 'Cuse's choke last night, could Michigan possibly steal that 3 seed back?

While Wisconsin has looked tough over the last couple of games, it's kind of hard to make a team a 3 seed with 10 losses. Even though, we have looked rough the last 10 -12 games, we are still a team that managed to stay in the top 10 for the entire season playing in argueably the toughest conference in college basketball.

So here I ask for your expert opinions and predictions, not more whining, complaining, and nagging. Even I have come to the realization that this team may not overachieve in the post season, and I never thought I would.

No I'm not out of my mind.  I'm looking at the entire year (NCAA calls it the "body of work" I believe) and not just focusing on the seven losses as you are.  I see a team with faults and frustrations but  also a team that won 26 games and beat Pitt, NC State, Kansas State, Illini (twice), MSU, OSU, Minnesota and should've beaten both Wisconsin on the road and Indiana at home but for the twist of fate.

You choose to focus on the seven losses and see abject failure.  I choose to focus on the 26 wins and see a team I like - despite their flaws and shortcomings.

Once again, it seems that a lot of people here (probably due to not following college basketball for a long time during the dark years) have this incorrect, idealized vision of what an elite basketball team is.  There are no 1992 Duke teams out there.  Every team in the country has had some off nights.  Indiana has one less loss than us (they're 28-6, we're 26-7) and they are a lock to be a 1 seed.

Our record is perfectly in line with a 3 seed.  In 1989 we went 24-7 (12-6) in the regular season and were a 3.  In 1994 we went 21-7 (13-5) and were a 3.  In 1998 we went 24-8 (11-5) and were a 3.  So why is this 26-7 (12-6) team not worthy?  Isn't the Big Ten supposed to be a gauntlet to navigate this year?

has haunted me everyday since it happened and has defiantly hurt this team. Theoretically took us from one/two seed debate to a three/four seed debate.

I would have bet the farm that the hockey team would not have won another game a month ago heading to Columbus for a weekend pair, but I had to dig my hockey jersey out from the bottom of the drawer for this weekend as whipping up on Western.  The basketball boys can get this going again.  You all know it is about who you get matched up with and then crazy upsets happen along the way that alter your path...it is what makes this time of year so much fun!  I'm just glad that our program is a part of it again.

If we can get placed in Auburn Hills and put together a couple wins and get the confidence and momentum rolling again, you just never know!

I think we need to go in hungry, and if we're put in the Auburn Hills region, that doesn't do it.  But  the speculation by the so-called "experts" reminds me of the commentary about which way a football instant replay is gonna play out.  Those guys get it wrong most of the time.

Like others have said I think I'd rather be a 4 seed in Gonzaga's bracket than a 3 seed in Louisville's bracket. I won't be too broken up if we don't get Auburn Hills by being a 4 if the matchups are favorable elsewhere.

I see 10 teams clearly ahead of us re seeding:IU-Lville-Kansas-Gonz-Duke-Miami-Ohio-G.Town-MSU-N.Mex    That leaves two 3 seeds available.Main competition is Fla (currently behind Ole Miss),Syr.(most brackets have them at 4,Ariz(probably a 4 or 5),Marq,Kan St ( we beat them) I feel good about our chances for getting a 3 seed.
