What B1G coach would you hire?
If you were a Athletic Director and you recently fired your head basketball coach, which coach (besides Beilein) from the Big Ten would you hire and why? Personally, I would hire Tom Crean- a great recruiter and an intense coach.

If I were coaching a rival Big Ten program? Brian Ellerbe, come on down!

Brad Stevens will be coaching at Duke in a few years so I won't go there.
I'd have to break the bank for Shaka Smart hoops wise...I'd avoid Crean because he seems like more of a recruiter than x and os guy

Tom Crean's hair stylist.

Tom Arnold.
After being married to Roseanne for awhile, he's really done a great job with IU.

I see more Professor Frink in Tom Crean than Tom Arnold.

Bo Ryan was the one that immediately came to mind. He always coaches up the talent that he gets. I can't recall the last superstar he had, but that is always a tough place for Michigan to go to.

Superstars would be a bit too high to state players he's had but Alando Tucker and Devin Harris were probably his greatest contributions to the NBA. Not to flashy or well known but they are solid players.

Thad Matta, assuming he's not allowed to chew gum.

Fran McCaffery. For a lower-rung job in a brutal conference, he's acquitting himself well. Not exactly young, though.

Bo Ryan. To finish in the top four of the conference for an entire decade straight is incredible. He's done that at a school that doesn't have a great recruiting base.

Mike Rice, obviously.
I'll see you bastards at Google.
January 27th, 2013 at 4:41 PM ^
Good lord. Nobody. Bo Ryan or Izzo, I guess.

Probably Matta, I know the whole eww-Ohio thing, but removing ourselves from that the man has OSU at an elite level.
Of course, I like where we're at with Beilien right now, so, that is moot.
In football, I think Meyer is the only one who would make me think twice about Hoke, and that's purely from on the field results -- two national championships in three years is hard to argue with. However, IMO, that's not worth the SEC-style recruiting practices and his apparent lack of commitment. Other than that, I think Pat Fitzgerald might be a good pick. He's doing some pretty special things at Northwestern (Northwestern!), turning them into a division contender with relatively little talent (especially when compared to other conference members). To me, that suggests he can really coach.
Again, I like Hoke more than both of them, so, moot here as well.

Which B1G hoops coach would you hire?
I always assume everything is football otherwise. Football is king.

I don't disagree, but the title of the website is:
"mgoblog | Michigan football, basketball, hockey, and general what-have-you"
However, I listed both of my picks just to cover all my bases.

pick the yooper - izzo. as a native i am biased and we have mutual friends, but the guy has performed well and as near as i can tell his program is pretty clean.
for football i'd take pat fitzgeral in a heartbeat. love the dedication, and getting past that one dance he did during this year's game vs michigan, he's been a class act and recruits to the stanford of the midwest which would be a tough job.

Woody Hayes.

I have managed not to hate Izzo depite being at the school that has never produced a single respectable (serious) fan that I know of. So I guess him.
