My good fellow, it's like hockey and football. throw in a little bit of that european football that they play on the other side of the Atlantic and you've got this cracker jack new game they've been playing in New England for about 4 scores and five years.
Truth be told, it's not much like soccer at all. Hockey + basketball = lacrosse.
I like this strategy to come up with new sports. NASCAR + Football = AwesomeBall
Native americans actually invented it. Played it instead of full out tribal wars.
BTN is the all-Michigan network today. Even the commercials.
I urge all of you to watch this game! They might not win (it's highly improbable) but lacrosse is an awesome sport and I'd love to see more people get into it.
It's really growing strong in the state of Michigan. I would urge you to start your kids early, which is easy because there are tons of leagues and camps for the little guys.
I noticed that too. Maybe he's taking reps at LSM... but I don't know
That wasn't yealy - it was Dakota Sherman. They showed the wrong guy (#17 instead of #16)
Sometimes guys will use a long stick in warm-ups to help them loosen up. I've seen women use long sticks for the same reason.
Hmmm...didn't see that, but I'll take it.
So are we underdogs today? (I don't know a whole lot about college lacrosse.)
Yes - we are underdogs.
Huge dogs.
1-1 at 8:51 1st. Top shelf corner with authority.
Oh man what a shot! Nice snipe! Michigan staying with OSU 1-1.
YES....Vasileff scores and it's 1-1.
Annndd.... that's why most teams don't use the 10-man ride.
So is the 10-man ride similar to full-court pressure in basketball? Is the goal to force turnovers?
Sorry, been hanging out at the bottom of the thread. Yes, that's the idea. It has its obvious drawbacks, of course. Typically you don't see it unless a team is down late and really needs to force the issue.
OSU scores on 10-man ride (goal open because keeper was riding an attackman)
I've never seen that ever playing lacrosse.
You're kidding, right? That's not Weiss's mistake. We were on the 10-man ride. It's the coaches' call.
Sorry, I realized that it wasn't his fault when I figured out they were on the 10 man ride. I've only been playing a couple years so a 10 man ride was totally foreign to me.
When we played Notre Dame in 1988 (club team at U-M), one of our attack scored from near half-field because the ND GK got decked (by yours truly) during a ride and coughed up the ball.
That's awesome! Major props to you man. I'm so excited to see this team in the future, I'm playing my 2nd high school season currently in Michigan.
if the GK is covering a man, he is fair game but if he is in net, he cannot be hit?
The circle around the goal, the crease, is a safe zone for the keeper. Once he's outside of the crease, he's fair game (unlike the gentlemanly sport of hockey).
never used to be that "kind". Post-Bettman there were even a few fights. Yes its true. Hockey player used to fight and some good fights too.
The offense can't even put a toe on the crease circle, let alone hit the goalie inside it.
Nice stop on fast break. We are coughing up the ball way to much with forced passes in the middle. We need someone to dodge.
Huge saves by Weiss. Nice
Have to be impressed by Weiss so far. Some good saves on his part.
OSU dude drilled his teammate in the head with a rocket. I hope that kid is OK.
Great shot by him -- 3-1 with 2 sec left in 1st
4-1 now, beg of 2nd
LOL -- I know if you're on this thread, you're watching the game.
Nice goal by Yealy. We need more of that when it's even.
Is it normal in college lacrosse for them not to chase at X?
So far BTN is infinitely better than tWWL at covering Lacrosse. I have watched a half dozen games on ESPN and been utterly confused every time. In the first quarter, BTN has taught me 2 things. 1) What the heck a ground ball is and; 2) Who gets possession when the ball goes over the end line.
Well ask around if you want to know something. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.
I completely understand, sorry, I didn't mean to come off as a dick. I think it's great how they explain the rules too. I was saying if he'd want any explanations then, in addition to the commentators, there are also some of us here willing to explain them in full.
To be fair to ESPN, a lot of people say just the opposite: "I wish I could watch lacrosse without Quint explaining every rule all the time." Their audience consists much more of longtime fans than this one.
So Ohio St. is Div I then? I usually only pay attention to lacrosse when they get to national quarters or so and I don't remember seeing OSU do well, so are they a good team? Why are we big dogs in this game?
OSU is a decent team, and yes, they are D-1. A few years ago I think they made the NCAA q'finals. They've been in D-1 for a while now. We're dogs because our team is all former club players (no recruits). We have 20 recruits coming in for next year.
was impressed. It was my first complete LAX game. I was proud of our boys. They did not play like dogs as far as I could see. Although I know very little of this game.
