UM Decommits this year
i still say jordan paskorz, but only if notre dame offers him
Its possible he gets an offer late in the cycle, probably only if the coaches decide they want to fill out the class but that isn't very likely right now.
One of the WR's and Paskorz. I do not think he is that good.
I look at it like this:
100% solid and not bumpable: Ricardo, Gardner, Jeremy Jackson, Austin White
Pretty solid in that something weird would have to happen for there to be a switch: M-Rob, Wilkins, Pace, Paskorz, Hopkins, J-Rob
And then..."the rest": Williamson, Avery, Dileo, Drake, Jones, Kinard
"The rest" could get iffy. Some could get cold feet at the last second due to distance. I didn't include Hopkins in there because he directly turned down the home team (TAMU) in favor of Michigan. But if for some bizarre reason LSU comes after Dileo or a big Texas school comes after Drake, or a southern school after Jones, who knows. Williamson and Avery are Ohio kids, so they wouldn't be scared off by distance, but I could POSSIBLY see them getting the Jordan Barnes treatment.
with Avery or Williamson. Avery came into camp and impressed. They offered knowing the scholarship crunch and knowing that he would likely commit. I don't see anything changing there. And with Williamson, he goes to school that you just don't want to piss off. But otherwise I agree with your categories.
You forgot about Ricardo Miller.
he's the first one listed.
Dileo isn't leaving. We were always his second favorite school after LSU when he was younger, and we were in on him way early. He's pretty much 100%.
As long as Kinard doesn't get the Jordan Barnes treatment, I think he will be solid.

the thing about kinard is that the staff at UM have known about him a long time becuase of the two upper classman that are going to UM this year. Im pretty sure they offered him early in the process and it sounds like they really like him. Ill be very surprised if he doesnt stay with us. But who knows. Crazier things have happened before. good topic.
(740): at a party and just made O-H-I-O out of dicks and vajayjays...i hope someone took a pic i was too busy (; GO BUCKS!!!
That is all... fuck Cinco de Montho.
What, what, WHAT!?!

I think you missed a "what".
It's more of a "whaaaat??"
I doubt it will be because of a Jordan Barnes type of treament from the coaching staff, unless that somebody sucks during his senior year. They told Jerald Robinson to be sure before he committed. They also stood by Paskorz's pledge when they turned Onwukaife down. They let Travis Williams know he wasn't top priority.
So, if anybody decommits, I think it will most likely be the kid's decision.
But if decommits happen, and they likely will every year, then hopefully it works out like it did last year...
Someone want to clarify "Jordan Barnes treatment"?"
Coaches conveniently losing your phone number and not contacting you, which is a subtle way of telling you you might want to look elsewhere for that whole college thing.
the coaches basically stopped talking to him. He never talked to Hopson, his position coach, while he was committed. After a couple of months he basically got the hint.
You might also see "The Dewayne Peace Treatment." This is where the coaches suggest a position change knowing that it will likely lead to a decommit. Peace wanted to play WR but coaches decide they wanted him at CB.
You could probably also call it the "Dewayne Peace treatment", although he was asked to move positions. Still, it seemed like a similar situation with him.
Do you think that there might be a few commits who jumped on an early offer that Rich Rod turns away?
I would say that either Drake or Dileo would fit this category, except they both come from recruiting hotspots. Maybe they are part of a larger plan to expand recruiting efforts in those areas.
And of course they could just be awesome and Michigan found them first.
EDIT: wow, timing works out nicely to make it look like I am just repeating what the guy above me just said.
Deja Vu.
Have inside info that one or MORE players will DECOMMIT, but maybe not. 50/50 players decommit, no sugarcoat.
any recruit getting cold feet, or the coaches implying they don't want him/them?

I hate this thread. I would neg the OP 100000 points if I could.
That is all.

Thank you for your concern triple blue.

I am on to your game. You are hoping that when these recruits read this, they will think "WTF? These asshole fans think I will decommit? I'll show them!! I will never decommit now!! Even though I was thinking about it!!!"
Well played.
Thanks 3blue.

How about I answer your question with a quesiton? How many of these kids are taking visits to other colleges and universities? Like RR says if they are taking visits they're not committed.
August 6th, 2009 at 12:00 AM ^
I think thats the key question right there.
These young high school kids have a fantastic opportunity to travel, see top athletic and academic programs, and for a while at least to be in the media spotlight.
If I were one of these kids I would take all 5 officials no matter what, then as many unofficials (if necessary) as it took to find where I was comfortable.
THEN I WOULD COMMIT. They owe it to themselves to see what's out there, make a decision, then stick to it.
If that happens 18 months or 18 seconds before the deadline than so be it.
These are young kids, and many commit too early, or without exploring their options; I'm sure when RR tells them to take their time and make sure before committing he means it.
Visiting other schools after committing isn't a sin, but it's sure as hell a red flag to me.
PS.
I don't have a problem with going to camps, because you learn and improve as well as being seen.

I say maybe Paskorz or Kinard would probally be the two most realistic to de-commit.
August 6th, 2009 at 12:44 AM ^
I don't understand where the Kinard is coming from. Unless he decides to de-committ because he's slow played I don't see it happening.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:22 AM ^
The Kinard thing is that he seems to a low-level recruit who jumped at an early offer to play with his classmates, and that maybe RR & Co. are going to want to give that spot to a more talented player. They would then give him the Peace/Barnes treatment to get rid og him. I however dont think this will be the case but that is what people think may happen.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Devin Gardner is a risk. If and when he gets that fifth star, I think there may be a solid chance he reopens his recruitment if only to see if maybe the grass is greener. Why go to Michigan when you can go to Florida, etc. I don't think this is at all likely, but it's my nightmare.
I know pessimism reigns supreme because of 3-9 and the RoJo fiasco scarred everybody and assuming the worst prepares us for when it might happen...but this is not a realistic scenario. Getting an extra star doesn't magically make a school more aware of a prospect, and it doesn't make a recruit suddenly look elsewhere, especially a recruit like Devin Gardner. Listen to his interviews. He's about as humble and reserved as you can be. He's formed close friendships with Austin White, Jeremy Jackson and Ricardo Miller. When Ricardo and M-Rob were up for the Spring Game, Devin was one of the ones in M-Rob's ear about ending his recruitment and committing to Michigan.
Hell, Devin took a lighter to a letter from Ohio State and posted pictures of it on Facebook to reassure Michigan fans that were paranoid about him "growing up an Ohio State fan." He's not going anywhere.
Great post!

is to call me every night before signing day, and whisper this in my ear before I fall asleep.
rumblings on this site about people thinking both Paskorz and Drake would decommit before all was said and done (I don't remember who said it, just that they seemed pretty sure that it would happen).
I am not sure how many (if any) will decommit this year (I hope they all stay on) but I find it funny that someone here would have more knowledge than the coaching staff as to a recruits thought process. I mean, we have already turned away two other players (one of whom is most definitely better than Paskorz IME) because they play the same position as Paskorz and that position is full.
I think if Paskorz was "on the fence" than UM would have taken one of those two and given Paskorz the silent treatment to insure they ended up with a solid commit from a better player. Paskorz decommitting just doesn't make sense to me given the circumstances.
Paskorz if Notre Dame offers.
