Treadwell update
Tom VH has a nice article about Laquon Treadwell on ESPN.com's Wolverine Nation. Looks like his recent visit went really well, but the flood of recruits we saw this weekend hasn't changed his timelines at all.
From the article:
While he claims to have no top list, Treadwell will admit Michigan is one of his leaders. After this past weekend where Michigan picked up eight commitments, there might not be much time before he will have to make a decision, something that Treadwell says won't deter him from his timeline.
"That won't change anything for me," he said. "It's not my time yet."

No news is good news?

I don't see how this weekend's flood of commits - great as it was - would necessitate an accelerated timeline for Treadwell. We didn't take any WRs, which is a position of need in this class. If I were an OL interested in Michigan, I'd definitely jump on the offer to secure a spot. If I'm a wide-out, I still have the luxury of taking my time and my visits.

I thought the same thing. The commitments over the weekend were great, but unless it other WRs come aboard, it is not relevant to Treadwell's timing.
Hopefully if he was a Michigan lean before, however, the enthusiasm/momentum will push him to go in the right direction, and sooner.
Go Blue!

could be accurate, we're projected to take 18 in this class and now 11 of those spots are gone, suggesting that the class may fill up sooner than later. Having said that I think last year showed that those last few spots take longer to fill than the first 15 or so. Some kids just don't like the recruiting process and want to get it over with others don't care. As they did for Dunn/Diamond/Garnett my guess is Hoke keeps the light on for Treadwell.
February 20th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Michigan is going to take more than 18 in this class. Attrition happens. Expect 22-23.
February 20th, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
I agree...maybe 20 to 22
February 20th, 2012 at 12:17 PM ^
Well knowing how great the class is going to be will make the decision even easier.
February 20th, 2012 at 2:18 PM ^
SIAP but did it say anywhere what Treadwell's timeline is? I hope we don't have to wait till the Under Armor game again, sheesh.
February 20th, 2012 at 8:19 PM ^
Yeah I'm interested in this too. Huge difference between "I want to wrap up my commitment before the season starts" guys and "I'll announce at the All-America game" guys.
February 20th, 2012 at 10:51 AM ^
Hopefully a Dukes commit will cause him to reevaluate this timeline...
February 20th, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
I would rather get him to commit when he feels comfortable than having him rush the process and not be 100% with his decision because he feels like he has to do it before he loses a spot. It may make us feel better to look at Rivals and see his name under "verbal", but this is a big decision for an 18-year-old kid and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
Treadwell is a #1 priority recruit. There will be space for him whenever he decides.
February 20th, 2012 at 11:28 AM ^
All signs suggest that Logan Tuley-Tillman commtted last night for this very reason.... spots are filling up. I'm not complaining, or worried, that he may not feel comfortable with "rushing the process."
If we have 4-star recruits juming on board because they are afraid they won't be able to go to Michigan if they don't do it now... great.
If a Dukes commit ignites a Treadwell "quick" decision I don't think anyone on this board will chime in with "I don't like this commit, he may have picked Michigan too hastily."

I agree. The feeling of forcing someone's hand so early can actually be counter-productive. It didn't help us with Reece this last haul, and it most definately didn't help dirty sparty when they lost their best player to ohio so late last haul either. They may give us that "solid verbal" but be questioning the entire time. If, perchance, we land a wideout or two on the way and Treadwell feel compelled to commit, so be it, but I think we would still make some space for him even if it was after the next NSD.
The responses we want to see are the ones that our current commits put on twitter. Comfortable and positive. They need to feel like they belong to a family and not something they they have to adapt to in orfer to save an early spot. I'm sure Hoke and Co are well aware of this and will maintain a form of contact and keep open invitations waiting, but not push too incredibly hard. This seems like a smart kid, and smart kids don't take some of the unclassy recruiting tactics that certain other schools employ. They see a fit based on needs of depth chart, facilities, education, etc etc. With Morris in his ear as well, especially on the friendship end, this should turn out well in the end. Who wouldn't want the best QB in the nation to sling footballs their way in huge games?

we are over 11 months away from signing day. Let's leave some room for the late bloomers too.

very top priority recruits on Michigan's list still remaining. I'd love to see an epic haul from the state of Illinois - something not seen often.

can't imagine our OL haul with Morris, Treadwell, and Isaac
February 20th, 2012 at 11:00 AM ^
I'd rather him wait until he's comfortable, even if it takes awhile. It's unfortunate for us, because last recruiting cycle we "lost" a lot of guys who waited until the last minute, but I'd rather him be sure of his choice than commit early, regret it, and flip on signing day.
February 20th, 2012 at 11:14 AM ^
I dunno guys, I would much rather have a sure thing. I think the staff has offered guys they feel comfortable with. If they want two WR this class, they should take the first two and perhaps save one or two spots for elite guys (regardless of position) who want to slow play us...especially after the way the last cycle closed out. Then again, Hoke and Mattison are much better at this game than I am and I think they were pretty confident with what they had going with the 2013 recruits.
February 20th, 2012 at 11:38 AM ^
go to, but don't commit because they want to enjoy the process a while longer. They might feel the need to pull the trigger now before it is too late (with little chance of later regret). Others, who are leaning, but aren't sure, should probably wait until they are more confident of their decision.

MOAR RECRUITS PLEAZE

It's what Shane wants. LaQuon has to understand that if Shane Morris wants him to commit, he has no say in the matter.

You should be over at RCMB or Elven Warriors, trolling for material for the strip! I can't bring myself to visit, but I'm told it is a target-rich environment just now.

We will complain about not signing anyone for months and you will like it!

Watch Martin kill it in the bench at the combine, laugh at Urbans attempts to get our players, see Dantionio pee himself when he has to scrape from the bottom of the barrel again, wait for Brian Kelley head to explode from screaming, go to AA for the spring game then back for fan day.
February 20th, 2012 at 10:58 AM ^
There will be a slot available for Treadwell and Isaac. I also assume that Pocic will have a spot kept open, otherwise OL recruiting seems done.
February 20th, 2012 at 11:00 AM ^
then jump in to take the last spot. Unless, of course, the coaches hold a spot open for him.
February 20th, 2012 at 11:09 AM ^
Yeah, we don't need to be Jordan Payton'd like USC, Cal, and Washington.

To be clear, my post was no insinuating that he SHOULD accelerate his timelines. MgoBloggers were getting very excited about more recruits (and for good reason) were going to keep committing, and I know Treadwell was one that people thought MIGHT be one of the next ones to drop. The post merely suggests that we should not be buckling up on Treadwell's status any time soon.

Let him take his time. We need something to talk about after April, when we are hopfully done talking about Kozan.
He can take his time visit other schools and see the country. Then he can commit when he feels he is ready and will give us something to talk about. Just keep talkking to Shane and he will stick with Michigan.
