December 23rd, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
I really don't get the fervor about this one. I would say that well over 90% of Mgousers don't care about Tool. A lot of bands, comedians, other performers come to Detroit. If there's one fan of each on here and they post about it the boards going to get pretty full of very OT material. This is an athletic blog so we know everyone here is a sports fan and all of the sports related OT's seem to be allowed even though they're technically OT during the season.

During the past year, you have disappointed me in the following ways.
Sam Webb- We all respect your "opinion", we just all wish it was right more often.
The MGoBlog poster with the picture of Zack Morris and A.C. Slater- Change your pic, or at least start posting as A.C. Slater would.
ESPN: Go fuck yourselves for stealing a briliiant recruiting insider, that was giving us premium info for free. Go die in a ditch! Excluding: Erin Andrews, Desmond Howard, Chris Berman, Bary Melrose, and Jalen Rose.....that is all.
Urban Meyer- Do you know what the difference between Urban Meyer and Ron Zook is? Tim Tebow.
Ohio fans: Yes, we know, Urban is going to lead another decade of dominance, and we should all be enjoying our "flash in the pan" win over you all this year. Forgive us for pointing out obvious things like the fact we have better line play, a top 5 recruiting class coming in, and a defensive coordinator who knows Urban Meyer's offense better than anyone outside of Rich Rodriguez.
People claiming they hate Michigan fans arrogance: Listen, we will never pretend that we're not the winningnest program in the history of college football. We don't have to make up national championship numbers to make our program sound better. 9 times out of 10, we got a better education than you did, and yes, it is the Michigan difference. We don't have to bend recruiting rules to get Top 5 recruiting classes, and we are infact, the exception to the rule that "no program is lilly white".

I don't see Harvard people complaining that we're too arrogant.
December 23rd, 2011 at 11:43 AM ^
You want ESPN to die in a ditch but exclude Chris Berman?
Ah, you must want to kill him in some other, much more painful, way, all the time showering him with nicknames that were amusing in 1984. That's it, isn't it?
December 23rd, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
You stole the words out of my mouth.
December 23rd, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
I am irritated by serial negbangers. If you are ticked at someone, take it up with them, instead of just mindlessly negbanging everything they post.
I am irritated by rude and mindless negative responses when someone doesn't like a post. "Get the fuck off my board" is a stupid riff on what Morris said, and stifles dialogue and discussion. Go ahead and disagree with someone (including me,) but if you disagree, give reasons why.
I am irritated with obsessive posts about many things: MSU, Ohio (especially whether or not they were punished appropriately,) RR, Gerg, the Freep.
I am irritated with posts that aren't labeled appropriately in the subject line. When a post is descriptively and accurately titled, I can just skip it.
I am irritated that the religion and politics rule means that we can't even talk about where it intersects with Michigan sports.
I am irritated that the posbang and negbang moderate feature don't contribute to the point total. Not for me, I don't care about that. But because there are times I would like to reward someone else (who cares or needs the points) for insightful and helpful posts. And very rare times when I'd like to help send someone to Bolivian.
I am irritated that Brian and the mods are taking a vacation for the next week. No, not really. The truth is, I'm thrilled with all the content at Mgoblog, almost all the time.
I am irritated that TomVH left mgoblog. But I'm glad Ace and Heiko are learning the ropes, and hope they continue to improve as they grow into their positions.
FTR, I am NOT irritated with photos of attractive women. Can there be such a thing as too much Scarlett Johannsson?
My only issue is with the XXX stuff that can't be seen in public. While Lucy Pinder is beautiful, her M gear pics are a bit over the line.

Wait just one minute . . .
- Brian gives a special dispensation for Scarlett pics, iirc.
- And tasteful pics of attractive women are always fine, imhe. Nudity and bitch slapping, otoh, don't pass muster.
December 23rd, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
(Though it IS possible to do that now). And you get extra points for making it seasonal.
Tasteful may = no nudity...but I think the thread to end all thread didn't start with a lot more flesh than posted here. Now, it dengenerated to such levels (or is that raised up?...epic), But I don't think that was the original point.
Of course, the real question, does Mrs. Kass have a Scarlett exemption? If so, more power to ya.

I got a problem with all you people who bitch about the grammar police and the moderating. Grammar and spelling police uber alles, I say. THIS IS MICHIGAN FERGODSAKES. Even if you didn't actually go to school there at least act like you got half an education in your life. And if you did go to school there, please write so that you reflect well upon your alma mater, which is the very raison d'etre of the board. I like these boards for the snark and the sarcasm and the fact that they're readable and don't resemble the ESPN or MLive mess. Please take half a minute out of your day to not make your post look like a 12-year-old's text message. The English language is not Nam, there are rules.
Thankfully, 98% of people do write well, because that is generally the board ethos. But I can't be bothered with your opinion if you can't be bothered to present it intelligently.

a comma between MICHIGAN and FERGODSAKES.
/festivus'd
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:34 PM ^
I plead not guilty. It's not that I forgot a comma, it's that MICHIGAN and FERGODSAKES have merged (or soon will) into a single entity. Just as one would not say "Michigan, State," but one might say either "Michigan State" or "State" so too can you now say either "MICHIGAN FERGODSAKES" or just "Michigan." Why else would FERGODSAKES be on a shirt in college-block font, just as Sparties wear one that says "STATE"? Brady Hoke has simply added a new word to the school's name. Why, any day now, FERGODSAKES will be on the school seal.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
Maybe we can get someone in a foam FERGODSAKES costume to run around the stadium. I'll bet it would really appeal to young kids.

Does anyone else feel like the servers are starting to get stretched to the limits? I've started to time out semi-frequently. It's the worst when I post something and I time out because I'm too afraid of a double post to refresh so I have to reopen Mgoblog and refind my spot.
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
Believe you me, this issue is ALL THE KNOWN. Choose the free web trafficking service of your choice and you'll see exactly why this is. Traffic is way up, and when we peak (big ones this year were the Hoke hire, Kalis commitment, and post-Nebraska) the spikes go into the kind of capacity there's no way we can afford without charging readers. There's also a ton of content: a hundred images, large images, gifs, tables, charts, embedded videos on virtually any page you go to, so even when the site's bandwidth is perfectly fine it can take awhile to load pages. The next big upgrade is in the works. Upgrades are paid for by donations so...hint hint nudge nudge bevel bevel guilt guilt...
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
Yeah, it was really more of a question than a grievance and I appreciate a mod response. I've wondered for a little while now but I didn't really want to start a thread about it. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring it up. Thanks again.
December 23rd, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
1. People who treat mgoblog as an extension of some other incredibly nerdy internet site they like to visit. Leave the words "MOAR" "ANGAR" etc. over there.
2. Extreme Political correctness on this site. While this site is classier than most internet message boards, I also think there's a lot of truth to the quote, "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners". It's alright to occasionally be exposed to viewpoints that may upset your delicate sensibilities. It can be mind-boggling to see so many 25+ aged males with such thin skin.
3. Lack of good off-topic threads. As long as they aren't political or religious in nature, I would like to discuss a wider range of issues with the educted, intelligent users of this site.
December 23rd, 2011 at 11:57 AM ^
I agree with the moar nonsense. This site has gotten way too inside internet for my taste. That said, everyone else seems to disagree, so I think it's here to stay.
December 23rd, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
Which is to say, I don't know the history of MOAR & ANGAR, etc. I have picked up that it is a current meme for the 10 - 25 year old set. I don't spend enough time on the Internetz (well, except for mgoblog) to be hip to all the lingo and slang. And I'm hopelessly beyond the 10 - 25 year old set.
Having said that, I internally roll my eyes when someone goes over the top (jumps the shark?) with endless references to
- MOAR
- herp
- derp
- FAIL
- I see what you did there
- do not want
- protip
- tl;dr
I have twin 10 year olds. What was "hawt" six months ago is so "lame" today. It is the same thing with most internet slang. Trying to be cool and with it usually dates you terribly, and means you're already out of it. (Guilty as charged.)
Anyway, too many of these internet memes just ends up being a pain in the rear, so I agree with the above posters on this grievance aired.
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
On that same token, mgoblog's own inside jokes aren't for everyone, either. You've got countless people with karma values of 2 just because they pander to the crowd and do one or more of the following:
a) 'Fred Jackson' the shit out of every recruit ever mentioned on the site
b) Talk about the changing tide in the rivalry
c) Spread public awareness about CRAIG JAMES.
It's not that I don't think it's funny. I do. Fred Jackson embellishes like A BILLION times more than anybody else. and yes, Hoke is personally walking down to Ohio and selling jerseys. and yes, no hooker is safe when Craig James is around.
It just doesn't need to be in every fucking thread. People can be funny with original material, too.
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
Craig James and his affinity for hooker killing is joked about on every college sports board. Not an inside joke. Although it is an awful and surely untrue rumor. That he killed five hookers at SMU that is.
December 23rd, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
I'm definitely guilty of MOAR and ANGAR, but "extension of some incredibly nerdy site" is just incorrect. It's just part of the blogging lexicon.
Read a newspaper if you don't want to see those words. Haha they seem to be pretty trivial anyway, better than making light of pedophilia with tasteless jokes.....
/ahem cough
December 27th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
I scored the following:
65% scored higher (more nerdy), 2% the same, 33% scored lower (less nerdy).
It says I'm not nerdy but not hip. Sounds about right...
