I might be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure B.J. Raji of the Packers was the first person I've seen do that celebration.

This is true. Dr. Saturday just made mention of it.

Doesn't matter, Denard is like King DeDeDe and the Villian Posse in Elmo and Grouchland, "What ever I touch I make it mine mine mine"
December 3rd, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
I'm not the biggest NFL follower so I could certainly be the minority here, but I had never heard of the "we hungry" motion/meaning until Denard started doing it.
All respect to B.J. Raji for the creation, but I feel this can also speak to the brand power of Michigan/Denard - depending on who inspired those kids.
My immediate reaction was that those kids looked up to #16

It didn't start with Raji, either. Plenty of people have been doing this for quite a while. I have no idea where it started, but Shaun Rogers was doing it back when he played for the Lions.

I'm not sure who was the first person to do it but I know it has been going to long before this season and before Denard. Denard definitely helped it explode though due to the Ohio game.

How long did you practice that to get it right?
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
Its the internet.
He did not create this.
December 3rd, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
It took like 42 hours... I'm at college, don't ask.

Great!

did they all untie their shoelaces too?

I saw a guy with dreadlocks yesterday, he must have copied Denard

I'd be doing it if I was a HS football player. Heck, next time I'm in ohio and someone is giving me crap for being a UoM fan, I'm going to do that eating thing.

Last night an Oregon player did it after a TD

he also stirred it up for good measure. it was probably hot and needed to cool off a little bit.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
kinda funny....kids from Southern Miss. doing it too after shelacking Houston the mighty...ooops.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
It is from rapper Lil' B. Denard didn't make it up, most here (myself included) probably didn't notice it until Denard started doing it.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
Why is this guy downvoted? This is exactly correct. Lil B (the rapper) made up the dance/move, and it caught on. Denard DID NOT MAKE THIS UP!!! Its understandable that many mgobloggers thought he did, because almost none of you have any idea who the rapper is (which is fine, btw), but he's fairly popular among younger people, which is why you are seeing the move done by young athletes.

What song is this?
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
I wouldn't know, I don't listen to him at all. I just remember a friend showing it to me a month or two ago and telling me where it came from. It could just be a video, too, not necessarily a song.
December 3rd, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
This is where Denard and the other kids got it. It's from Wonton Soup by Lil'B and other videos of his where he does referencing this song:
In case you get confused - his lyrics are not serious - he makes fun of a lot of rap cliches. It's sort of a post-modern deconstructionist approach to rap. I thought this was dumb until I found that out. Some of it is really hilarious.

Lil B is the greatest! Bill Bellamy and Martian are so funny.

I was trying to fix the embed when you replied and locked me out.
Here's where he does it in the song:
December 3rd, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Lil' B got it from somewhere/someone else. He released it July 2010. I am about positive I've seen the motion before then. Either way Denard didn't make it up so you are correct in that.

Our football team gets so much PR from Denard. From shoe laces, to eating, to "Denarding", I love it all.
December 3rd, 2011 at 7:22 PM ^
I am pretty sure I just saw a LSU DL do the we hungry move after a blocked pass. Not sure if he was imitating shawn Rodgers, Ravi or Denard but I will go with Denard.
December 3rd, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
Will Gholston just made a tackle in the BT Championship game and got up and did the eating motion... now he is copying Denard too...guess trying to decapitate him was not enough.
December 3rd, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
I have seen a lot of teams recently do the eating motion.
