OT: ALCS Game 4 Open Thread
Tigers vs. Rangers, game 4. Supposed to start at 4:19, but ESPN is saying tarps are still on the field and there is going to be a rain delay (link). The weather radar doesn't look too hot (link).
If they are able to get the game in, we will see Rick Porcello match up against Matt Harrison. Both had pretty mediocre regular seasons, and both have pitched decently in the playoffs so far. Also, Adrian Beltre, Delmon Young, and V-Mart are all slated to play.

Then get it in the eigth and close it out in the ninth. Pure blitzkrieg.

Make them pay Victor!

Fly ball should score him. Come on!!!! Take more than three pitches

Way to hustle Big Fella.
October 12th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
He is such a lazy baserunner... It really irritates me sometimes. Atleast he didn't stop in the base path like last night
October 12th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
you don't think cabrera was trying his best to score? he's not a fast man, but i am sure that he ran his fastest at that moment. he wants to win as much as anyone.
coaches have to put him in a position to succeed.
October 12th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
You just watched the man run you have to know that's nowhere near far enough out...
October 12th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
You got to be kidding me.
October 12th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
Was he told to run?
October 12th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
If we can get out of this half inning unscathed...I'm calling an Avila walkoff.
October 12th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
I would like to see some kind of a life-sign because at this point I'm honestly concerned that he might be dead
October 12th, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
Benoit is dealing tonight (just picked off cruz stealing 2nd to end the inning) and we still have Valverde in the bullpen. The Tigs offense is going to blow up in either the bot 9th or 10th to end the game.
October 12th, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
C'mon, Tigers!!
October 12th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
This would be a good inning to trot a run across.
Just sayin.

Come on sneaky power!

Time for santiago to be the hero
October 12th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
We need to get atleast one baserunner on so Cabrera gets an at bat.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
Valverde has so many OCD mannerisms. Interesting to watch.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
Not a good jump. God damn it. Good teams don't give games away like this.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
Watching Ryan Raburn bat in the playoffs hurts my soul.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
to lose the ALCS?
October 12th, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
Valverde chokes.

More like tigers offense choked

Sinking feeling about this series....
October 12th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
DAMMIT!!!
October 12th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
I don't question Leyland much, but I don't get why you intentionally walk right there.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
very bad base running calls
walking a gimpy batter to get to the two best clutch hitters?
October 12th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
The pick-off sequence is a loser move. Just is. Then Jackson getting caught stealing with Cabrera coming up was ridiculous. Why do you want to steal a base so badly there again? So that you're going even though you've gotten a ridiculously poor jump? Do we have that much confidence in Raburn?!
Sending Cabrera on that was also just a fucking absurdity. Come on.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
No, you steal that base so that Raburn has a chance to win it. You can't sacrifice him over because then they walk Cabrera. It wasn't a terrible call, just a perfectly executed throw and catch.
We're losing the series to a much better team, we don't need to start playing the blame game.
October 13th, 2011 at 12:02 AM ^
I don't want to risk not getting the best hitter in baseball (or one of) up in that situation so I have a chance to have Ryan Raburn at the plate with RISP. Sorry.
You have to know your team and Jackson just got an awful jump in a clutch situation. Even if he steals the base and Raburn gets out, as he's likely to do, you've again negated Cabrera because there's a base open. Just don't love that call.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Good year Tigers, I don't think they can win three in a row. Can''t be to upset with a trip to the ALCS.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:38 PM ^
It's like losing to ohio state because we went for it on 4th and 26 from our own 2 yard line with 1:00 left in the 4th and up by 2. Leyland's STUPID ass baserunning "strategy" pissed the whole dream away. An entire season of games end in misery because of THIS horseshit
October 12th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
are going to lose because they can not get a cutch hit to save their lives. Couldn't get one in game 1, culdn't get one in game 2 and didn't get one in this game. It is painful to watch.
The pitching was good enough to win.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
Their season is over because of the stupidest fucking baserunning decisions in the history of the game.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
having Cabrera run to home like that is like Denard pitching out to Molk.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:39 PM ^
But that was funny.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
Tigers would have won already if Justin pitched, based purely on past performance and record likely he would have given up only 2 runs. But Leyland wouldn't risk "getting him hurt" in order to pitch him on three days rest tonight--even though pitchers have done that for 100 years, and there is zero proof that 4 days rest, which only became standard for pitchers roughly 20 years ago, has resulted in either 1- fewer injuries, or 2- improved performance. And Justin was eager to pitch. Pity.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:32 PM ^
cool, so we lose tomorrow then. I don't think Tiger fans realize that other pitchers need to win too, not just Verlander.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:34 PM ^
You're blaming starting pitching when it was a tie game in the 8th and there's a guy on third and we don't bring him in?
October 13th, 2011 at 8:49 AM ^
if Verlander pitched.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
All 4 starters only gave up 3 runs each. A healthy lineup, or even a semihealthy lineup and we'd probably have won in 5 or 6.
There's nothing you can do. We win one more game during the season we're probably playing the Yankees right now.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
The Morning show guys on 97.1 looked up the stats, and in the postseason guys on 3-days rest have like an ERA over 5.0 and have won like 8 of like 30 games. So even if Verlander pitched well that's one game. There's still Games 5, 6, and 7 that Porcello, Scherzer, and Fister have to win. It won't even be them having to win it so much as our hitting still has to step up
October 13th, 2011 at 8:48 AM ^
There is no long term evidence that guys on three days rest either 1, are more prone to injury, or 2, are less effective. It's not true. I do agree that lack of clutch hitting and injuries are a huge issue, but I would have much rather taken my chance, a good chance in fact, of Verlander giving up say 1 run over 8 or 9 innings and not even needing more hitting tonight.
October 12th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
Fucking worst baserunning decisions in the history of baseball. Awful. Adios, Tigers. It was good while it lasted.
