OT: Tigers v. Indians - 9/16
Middle of the week and the Tigers are putting the division away, so I figured this would acceptably fall into the "Infrequent Pro Sports" allowance.
Tigers score 5(!!!) runs on 6 hits all with two outs to start the game.
Currently 7.5 ahead of the Indians in the Central.
Only 5.5 behind the Red Sox for second best AL record... if the Tigers keep hitting they have a chance to catch the Red Sox which would allow them to host Texas in the first round have home field advantage against the Sox in the first round. Tigers have an opponents winning % of .456 remaining and the Sox have an opponents winning % of .500. Not out of the question.
The home field advantage could be significant with the Sox' strong left-handed lineup.

I'll admit it, I was wrong about this team a few weeks ago when our lead slipped to 1.5 games. The Tigers are peaking at the right time and it is real fun to watch. We have a guy in Fister that is pitching like a legit #2 starter and between Scherzer and Porcello we have a decent third starter for the playoffs. I only wish Bosch wasn't out for the season. Delmon Young has been solid in his absence though.

Fister is looking like he'll be a nice asset for the next few years for the Tigers. Good for him, people were very split on that trade when it happend

I read your post as "Fister is looking like hell" and thought you were crazy for a second!

Any time I see Fister's name I shudder. Then I giggle.

No way they will play Texas in the first round. A division winner cannot play the wildcard in the first round if they're in the same division. Either way though, go Tiggers!

Oops... I feel really dumb because I knew that but I think I got so excited when I saw we could catch the Red Sox that I started thinking about fancy, imaginary things.

It'd be nice to have best record for home field in the ALCS. A more likely thing to reach for is passing the Rangers and getting home field in the ALDS, that'd give us a chance to send Verlander out in game 1 in front of 44k at Comerica.

Yeah, this is realistic and would be awesome. Whether it's the Yankees or the Red Sox that we play, having home field would be very nice.

All good, I didn't know until few days ago. Still be sweet to be the #2 seed especially based on where we were a few weeks ago.

After the debacle of 163 games and a lost Divisional Title in 2009, I'm trying to stay even-keeled. But after this weekend against the Sox followed up with yesterday's win and today's start, I actually believe the Tigers will get their first Divisional Title since 1987.

The Tigers are soon to be 18 games over .500, while Cleveland will soon be just one game over. Not only is the lead virtually insurmountable, Cleveland/Chicago simply aren't good enough to stay above water.

The division race is over

I'm watching the Indians TV feed and their sideline reporter girl is a mega-babe. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
Yeah, she easily beats the FSD girls.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
I pray you jest sir. Captain America is banging one of the FSD girls. Captain. Fucking. America.

Correction:FSD girl - the Detroit equivalent. That sideline/field reporter. The FSD models... well yeah, that sir is up for debate over a few beers.

Our girl field reporter, Shannon Hogan, probably has a bigger rack than that one pictured above.
And I would take Allison (Captain America's bangee) over the others mentioned.

Porcello 6-1 lifetime in September, and 7-1 is looking likely.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
Porcello 62 pitches thru 6, maybe Leyland will let him finish this one out and give the pen a break. Pen prolly won't get much work tomorrow afternoon with Verlander taking the mound.

The Tribe is down 10-1 and that idiot is beating his drum.
September 6th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
in Tennessee. Can I get a scoring update please?
September 6th, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
10-1 Tigers, bottom 8
September 6th, 2011 at 9:29 PM ^
And Verlander is waiting in the wings to come out tomorrow. How defeated must the Tribe be feeling right now?
September 6th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
We can officially eliminate Minnesota and Kansas City by getting 3 more outs before giving up 9 or more runs.

Alburquerque trying his best to make you regret that remark. :)
September 6th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
Yeah, that got gooey for a few minutes there.

Alburquerque is making quite a mess here.

I can't believe its been over 4 years since we were at least 18 games over .500! Unreal baseball being play in D-Town right now. Nothing better than rolling into the postseason on a hot winning streak.
September 6th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Do you guys think if the Tigers win out and get to 100 wins it will be enough to catch the Yanks and Red Sox?
September 6th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Just heard Mickey York say 15 games is the magic number to clinch...let the countdown begin folks!
September 6th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
all the chicken little's who were SURE we would choke have gone. This team is 31-19 since the break. I can't wait for this weekend. Going to the Tigers game on Friday night (11th game of the year), and then heading to Ann Arbor right after. Then the Lions start Sunday. Exciting times right now, guys and gals.
