we had no offense to speak of. Still, a hell of an effort. Proud of this overachieving team.
Go Blue.
red said "you can play defense everyday" which is true but if the offense doesnt really help out for the 3rd consecutive game...its gonna give eventually. really no sustained pressure at all tonight.
gotta give it up though: 1/9 on UMD powerplays? really impressive. its too bad we barely had any offense
And yet three goals should have been enough to win it.
.....it wouldve
we had enough offense to win the game regulation 3-2....oh wait, referees......&%#$!
I'd be wore out too if I spent all night killing penalties.....another disallowed goal cost's the boys in blue....great season, wont be one I'll forget for a long while...nothing but pride tonight!
OT threads = Bad luck
One goal called off and 9 penalties what the he'll. Clearly the officials made a decision before the game
Don't blame the officials. The no goal was the right call and most of the penalties were blatant. UMD played harder than us.
Puck in net, then whistle. How is that "the right call"?
Arms were in the air even before the whistle.
Wouldn't have to play like that if it's 5 on 5 not 5 on 9
We should get the trophy just for getting it to OT against those odds.
Man, shitty way to end the season. Great effort from our guys, they left it all out on the ice. Get 'em next season!
Go Blue!
Stop blaming officials. We played like crap, and the better team won. The only disappointment should be over our effort. One star defensemen in particular absolutely dogged it out there tonight, beat to every puck and made turnover after turnover.
And faceoffs... don't get me started.
But we still should have won even though we played like crap. We scored 3 goals in regulation. UMD scored two. And yet, at the end of regulation the score read 2-2. Clearly the refs had a play in that and clearly they can be blamed for it.
We looked slow. Damn.
forwards were skating around the defensemen just like nodak was. i was surprised
You have everything to be proud of.
I'm still going to buy a Hunwick jersey. He's still my hero.
I really thought the power of Hoke-A-Mania was going to pull us through. ;)
Me too :(
Regardless of outcome, no twenty goal scorer, 2nd best player out with broken collar bone and a 3rd string goalie. Great job guys . Go Blue
Starting defenseman a scratch too due to prolonged illness.
Still best damn ice program in the NCAA
That sucked, but I am mighty proud.
Go Blue!
Unless the officials blow it for you in the tourney in back to back seasons.... in which case, blame the officials.
Still think that first goal was good even if the Melrose-mullet didn't.
Either way, hell of a run for a short handed team.
We had that goal from the 1st...
UMD had the balls to push the puck in OT and pull their defensemen forward. Hats off to them for that. We definitely played conservative to end the 3rd and they pushed up, took the risk of getting exposed, and got it in the net. Good show. Their coach could easily be the goat right now for calling a more aggressive play style and losing when Michigan got a 2 on 1. He comes out looking good though.
My only bitch was the refs need to get the sand out of their vaginas. I felt like in the third they were blowing whistles and sending people on both teams to the boxes for some really minor shit. It's the third period of the national championship game, let the kids skate. I think UMD got called for some lame shit and so did we. The neutral observer in me found myself going "Really, you're calling THAT? Is touching illegal now?!" when both UMD and UM players were getting boxed throughout the game.
Your in-laws weren't in town for THIS one....
I wish they were. Melrose would in be their luggage, bound with duct tape and the suitcase tagged as "To Pyongyang".
Actually my father in law has been asking me when the first grandkid will be showing up. He didn't like my suggestion to check back in five to ten years. It's a little wierd to have a guy encouraging me to knock his daughter up.
We didn't get many bounces but they played a damn good game. We took untimely and costly penalties all game long, I didn't see much laziness but their defense wasn't a very good matchup against UMD, especially without Burlon, they needed a big body. Their goals weren't any more "garbage" than ours, in hockey bounces don't always go your way but thats all in the game win or lose. We didn't play as physical as id like to have seen and Hunwick as absolutely incredible once again.
I think looking at Berensens record or names of our sweet players isn't what you evaluate in a hockey game. Its all about how the game is played and positioning and execution. That overtime goal was a blindpass, yeah, but the man driving the net was in perfect position as well as their second goal on the putback. It was an awesome game to watch and im not bitter towards them, tonight they didn't outplay us necessarily, but thats hockey. Go Blue, next years team will be MUCH different than this years.
I literally cried. Three times. I'm sitting next to my sleeping girlfriend trying to justify why I care so much and why I can't sleep when I'm just so tired.
I'm gonna miss Carl. I hope Scooter gets drafted, he deserves it. Fuck, I hurt.
OT in the NCAA's hasn't been kind to the Wolverines of late. 2-6 in OT games since the '98 OT Championship game.
