you're right about ac. i was thinking the 6-6 year was during his time. i was wrong. and i actually agree with all of the osu performances you mention...still, pretty good company. |

although maybe the shot against kansas before the season starts. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | He was not a great QB. But |
He was not a great QB. But he was a great football player. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't he have 9 of the top 10 offensive yardage performances ever at Michigan? If that isn't the makings of a legendary career at Michigan I don't know what is. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | No doubt |
Wangler to Carter was to break a tie against INDIANA. Denard's 4th quarter was against Notre freaking Dame. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | That is also why |
he will be remembered as a legend. Anthony Carter played on some disappointing michigan teams (for the Bo era) and is remembered as a legend. Denard played surrounded by the weakest talent we have had in over 50 years and was THE reason we were competitive at all in any of those games. People are entitled to their own opinions, but the idea that Denard's on the field accomplishments aren't enough to put him in the legend category seems crazy to me. Further, in my life, there are only two performances against OSU that are in the same ballpark as Denard's in 2011 - Biakabatuka and Kolesar. No one is arguing that he was among the most talented drop back QBs we have had. That argument is a paper tiger. What he was, was the best player we had over a 3 year period. And, I think, the most valuable player to his team that I have seen at Michigan in my lifetime. Woodson had James Hall and Marcus Ray. Griese had Hutch and Backus and Tuman and Streets. Henne had Hart and Long and Manningham. Who did Denard have? I don't want to take a dump on the players around him because they busted their asses for UM. But give the not a legend stuff a rest. Denard was Michigan football for 3 seasons. It isn't his fault we were starting walkons on defense. |

A guy like Glen Rice deserves to be there as much as Webber. The difference is that no one is sitting behind their computer and telling Glen Rice he shouldn't be there or that they don't want to hear from him. Your question was why not an open letter to Glen Rice...the answer is because Glen isn't trashed by some Michigan fans. There are many of us, especially those that were around when the FabFive were at Michigan, that are ready and willing to forgive. I'm glad someone said that in a forum that might reach him (the open letter). This is a complicated issue wrapped in an even more complicated subject (amateruism in college athletics). I'm going to stop posting about it here because I do agree that this is not the time to have a war about Webber. I just responded because I wanted to make it clear that some of us don't hate him. But that opinion doesn't seem welcome here. |
| 10 weeks 4 days ago | Probably because |
he already has come back and even visited with this team already this year. Plus, the open letter by the Professor was necessary because so many people love to trash Webber...as proven not only by Brian's post but that anyone who disagrees with it gets labeled as having tossed out flamebait. Which this will no doubt be labeled as well. |
| 10 weeks 5 days ago | Webber |
I don't want to start a war about this because I don't think we should be focusing on this right now either...this is a moment for the 2012/13 team. But it is also a moment for everyone that has ever played at Michigan. That is one of the things that makes Michigan great...there is a real pride from former players in what the current players are doing. And I think Webber deserves to be a part of that if he wants to be. The Webber situation is more complicated than those of you that never want to see him again want to make it. I thought the Professor's open letter was touching. And I don't see how mentioning his name in the same sentence as this team cheapens this team at all. The Fab Five are part of Michigan's history. Ignoring it is pointless and does a disservice. Webber was a 19/20 year old kid that took money. Webber's moral wrongdoing is questionable since he was forced (not really forced, but you know what I mean) to make money for a University (that then redistributes that money to kids in non-revenue sports) and not see any of it (except for his own scholarship which is borderline meaningless when pushed toward a general studies degree). I'm almost as sick of the Webber bashing around here as I am of the Lloyd bashing. I know this blog skews young so people remember App State and not '97 and remember painful sanctions but not the early 90s in hoops. I get it...but it is annoying. |
| 12 weeks 2 hours ago | Yeah, |
those of us who are old enough to remember the early to mid 90s have plenty of reasons to hate Duke. My favorite basketball memory (outside of 89, 92, and 93, obvs) is rushing the court after knocking them off in Crisler in 97. We had beaten OSU to go to the Rose the week before, and Charles would win the Heisman that night. Good times. |
| 12 weeks 2 hours ago | I'm pulling for Duke to lose... |
The only reason to root against MSU here would be if we hadn't closed the gap. We have. What's good for the big ten is good for us. Duke hoops is as bad as ND football. I can never pull for them in anything. |

I still love that man. |
| 13 weeks 1 day ago | Look up the origin of "amateur sports" |
College sports (revenue) are not an amateur endeavor. Even the athletes themselves (non-revenue too, on the backs of the revenue athletes) are compensated...albeit poorly. As soon as we stop pretending that: a) these endeavors are amateur and b) realize there is no great honor or morality in amateur athletics (compare to pros) we will be able to figure this out. But don't expect those that get rich off of it to help us get there. |

Sparty plays at noonish, Michigan at 7ish. Pretty sure those are different sessions and therefore there will be little overlap. |
| 13 weeks 4 days ago | I hate the jerseys... |
...but when we lose it makes it easier because I can pretend the team that lost wasn't Michigan. Them: "Did you see that Clowney hit?" Me: "Yeah. Don't know who SC was playing though." |

Stumbled upon it back during spring ball in 2006. That season michigan had a great run and reading MGoBlog every day during the season made it even more fun. Still the best work I think Brian has done. |

I had dinner with a friend who is still in the league (been playing for 8 years now) a few weeks ago and he said he is convinced he is going to have trouble with his brain as he goes on. He also said this is the belief of most of the league. On the one hand, it makes me feel a little bit better that players today have a good grasp on the risks (as good of a grasp as anyone can) and then can make an educated decision about continuing to play. On the other hand, it makes me sick everytime I hear a commentator or anyone else suggest these studies don't ring true. Playing football puts your brain at significant risk of severe damage. I only played 4 years in highschool, but clearly the longer you play and the more collisions (and greater f=ma) you suffer the more at risk you are. I truly hope you are ok. I really wish arm chair qbs would stop acting like tobacco executives. |
| 14 weeks 6 days ago | UNC did a study a few years back too |
and they found that the little collision, even in days without full pads, cumulatively did serious damage. i'm not a doctor (and i sucked at all sciences in school) but human understanding of the brain is very limited. doctor's don't even really understand what happens to a brain when it is concussed (other than the fact that the brain is bruised and the obvious symptoms felt by and observed of the individual). i think these studies do the best they can given our collective lack of understanding. |

| 15 weeks 5 days ago | We need a guarantee |
I want a jim harbaugh/mike hart moment from one of the team's leaders. This team's biggest problem is confidence right now...I'm really worried that the freshmen in particular are going to come out so tentative and afraid on Sunday. I'd like someone to guarantee a win. Rally the troops. |
| 15 weeks 6 days ago | i want to believe that this |
i want to believe that this will make us stronger but i think we are too young and soft for that to happen...if it does that will be a HELL of a coaching job. i have to think that just like none of us believe in this team anymore the team doesn't either. maybe trey and morgan and MAYBE, big maybe, hardaway does, but there is no way the young guys can withstand this...the heartbreaker against wisco, the blowout to sparty, and now this? the swag is gone. if it comes back somehow the coaches and leaders (not really sure who they are) will have done an incredible job with bringing the youngsters back from the edge. |
| 15 weeks 6 days ago | I love you Trey, |
but you know what you should do when you get slapped in the face and there is no call? SLAP THEM BACK. Someone has got to show some fight. If he thinks they got slapped around tonight, just wait until what Sparty does. It can't be a real fight if only one side throws punches...and you know they will. |
