Someone help me here - if…

Someone help me here - if that goal comes off the board for the hand pass, what happens to the clock? Most specifically to the 1 minute that went off of Michigan’s power play? I think the faceoff would come out of the zone and the PP would be basically killed off (no time back on) but that seems like an even more absurd result than just taking a goal off the board for something that happened a minute earlier!

Even if you accept that M …

Even if you accept that M “broke the rules” this isn’t a settlement and it doesn’t resolve anything. The B1G can do whatever they want to us, whenever they want to, including keeping us out of the B1G title  game (or suspending Harbaugh for it) if we beat OSU.
Agreeing to this makes no sense. M got played…if there is new horrible evidence, we got played a week ago.

Really hope I’m wrong but I see nothing positive here.

Freshman lockeroom

For the record, the freshman had their own lockeroom during the Carr era too. Maybe Rich Rod got rid of it but I know it was there for at least most of the Carr era and I assume (like almost everything else) it went back to Bo. I'd guess that's where Harbaugh got the idea.

Great idea!

I approve

Yes

The discovery of water having been present on Mars seals it for me. The basic building blocks are clearly out there so assuming life isn't is illogical. (Not a Trekkie but it just felt like the right word).

I'll go a step further with the earth worm example. Think about our senses. We use 5. imagine the world perceived by a blind person? Now a blind and deaf person? Everything would be so different and much that we now know having those senses would be completely missed.

Now think about how many other senses there may be that we can't use? We know some exist, like bats or some marine life's sonar/echo location so there may be many, many more. Intelligent life could be sitting right next to you right now but you just don't have the tools to perceive it.

I'm not saying he isn't fragile

but our program seems to have a lot of fragile players then.  So either we have a bunch of fragile players, horrible luck, or there is something wrong with our medical/triaining/rehab staff.

or of course it is possible that since i pay way more attention to michigan than any other team our injury woes are not actually worse than other teams.  but spike, caris twice, walton twice, zak, mcgary for his whole career...it seems nuts to me for a bunch of 18-21 year olds

Pass pro

Pass pro was good. Jake was also good at not getting sacked when he was hurried.

But the oline still really struggled in the running game. Yes there were some missed holes by the backs, but even with a dline as good as Utahs, the interior of our line especially should be able to open the occasional hole big enough for one of our backs to have first contact be 2 or 3 yards down the field.

It's only one game, but it's starting to be really weird. These guys should be able to move people.

"They couldn't be retrieved"

While the optics of disposing his cellphone was bad, I find it hard to believe that his lawyers believed the fallacy that destroying a cell phone renders the records unretrievable. Harder to retrieve? Sure. But unless Brady has his own private server that he deleted data from (no polo) that data still exists.

Barf

I really wish we would stop doing this. I know this is the internet so saying mean things and arguing is kind of what it is for, but why do we have to trash a wildly successful former coach of ours every time his name is mentioned? His record speaks for itself, his rings speak for themselves, the players that love him speak for themselves, 2007 and some weak late career performances against OSU speak for themselves, as does a drop off in recruiting. Then there is a story about how Lloyd torpedoed Rich Rod and destroyed the program by some combination of action and inaction that has been peddled by some people but not commented on by Lloyd. As some have said here and on 9 millions other threads that turn into this, with only one side of the story we don't know anything and even if we did...guess what folks, just like most things in life it's probably really, really complicated and when a fuck up as large as the last almost decade happens it's usually more than one persons fault.

Lloyd could have won more. Lloyd should have supported Rich Rod more. If Mo hadn't fucked up he would have won more. Lloyd shouldn't get credit for 2006 because we almost lost to Ball State. I don't care about '97 because I* was 4 at the time. Blah blah blah. Look at where we were before him (lots of success but not reaching the pinnacle even during Bo's time and the era of no scholarship limits so much less parity) and have been since. Blame him for whatever you want but can we stop shitting on our one coach that achieved relevancy for this program since 1990? I get it and agree...Moeller was and would have continued to be a great head coach...but he didn't get to be. Let's stop tearing down the guy who was our coach and won for us.

If you need to blame Carr for Rod's failures based on gossip, go ahead. But you can't blame him for Hoke's. And after 7 years of watching our coaches trip over themselves I would have thought maybe people might have started to realize that we had something pretty darn good from 95-08.

* not me, but I have a suspicion that a lot of the people that hate Lloyd don't have real memories of 95-03 and certainly don't remember the 80s when Bo lost a shit load of openers too. With top 5 teams even. If 97 was the beginning of your fandom, you expect it every year and wonder why it hasn't happened yet. Trust me, if you lived through Bo's career you would realize how special 97 was and not cast 97 aside as simply as many of you do.

You can trademark a color.

It isn't as simple as filing for your standard trademark registration nor does having such a mark dictate that no one else can ever use a color in any situation, but see: Tiffany Blue, Louboutin Red and Owen's Corning Pink and you'll realize that you can get trademark protection for colors.

Having said that, I don't see how Nike could attain that right from Michigan beyond the term of the contract unless Michigan was incredibly stupid...which, I guess is possible, but even then I don't think the color we used on our uniforms was distinict enough to get trademark protection anyway.

I think this is nice

I think this is nice

I still look up to them...

but they aren't my heroes in the same way.  Now they (college players) are kids/young adults that do incredible things in pressure filled situations that I can't fathom.  The thought of doing my job with 115,000 people watching live and another several million watching at home is enough to make me piss down my leg.  The fact that these kids do it and do it so well is more impressive to me the older I get.

Steve Everitt

I think Brian meant to refer to Steve Everitt and not his former Michigan olinemate Matt Elliott.  Although maybe the reference was to Jumbo.  Either way, considering the career Everitt had at Michigan, including leaving a ton of blood and part of his jaw on the field against ND (and then refusing to leave the sidelines until the game was over to go have it reattached) I hope we can at least misidentify him by the right name.

Sorry.  Old man here that just can't believe the early 90s were so long ago that Everitt could be as forgotten for what he did on the field as he is now.  Everytime he is called "Hoke's pet viking," I cringe.  Again, I know I'm old, but for some of you younger guys imagine people looking at Jake Long on the sidelines in 10 years and talking about him as something other than a 100% Michigan legend and badass.  "Jay Harbaugh's tatooed Gorilla." Or something.

That's actually technically not true.

I only note it because someone pointed it out to me recently that its not true.  In 2006 they got away with that rule.  Although I don't think a team sub .500 has ever been in.

yeah...

4 team fouls?  i mean, i know that the conference needs wisco to get a one seed in the dance so a loss to michigan today would have been a disaster but be a little less obvious about it.  and the lack of respect for Beilein is starting to really piss me off.  I'm not saying that Bo, Tom, and Thad don't deserve respect from the refs, because they do, but so does our fearless leader.

4 fouls.  SMH.

What does Izzo mean by "them"?

Izzo is racist now too? Man, he has checked every horrible personality trait box. Just a bad person.

Now that...

Is the clear silver lining that my hate/fear/depression didn't let me see. So right. I momentarily forgot that conference respect actually truly matters now.

I love seeing the SEC struggle

But let's not be like Vandy fans chanting "SEC! SEC! SEC!"

I'd be happy

Happy for the kids and happy for the coaches. And I'd get fired up for Penn State.

Yes

I remember seeing fire Carr signs and shirts on TV. In 2005 and in 2007.

Yes!

It's not about how quickly we get the next play off...we aren't going to be Oregon. All I want is to get in and out of the huddle quickly so there is time to react to what the d is showing. In 2014, not knowing how a defense is lined up so you can adjust to something better is like playing with an arm tied behind your back. I like Hoke generally and think he can succeed here. But I do see this as a HUGE deal. I really wish a reporter would ask Nuss questions about this.

Boring Lloyd type football...

...how much longer are we going to bash the Lloyd years? I would have thought the crater that is now Michigan football - basically being Purdue for going on 6 years and 2 coaches now - would have added some perspective to the Lloyd haters. I mean, lots of people bashed Bo when he was the coach but could step back after a few years and realize we had it pretty good with him. Since Lloyd left we have had 5 seasons in 6 years that are worse than he had in his entire career. I would kill for those years again.

This doesn't answer your question...

so sorry. And I think you question is valid and answers to it are important. But the current system is so wronging the student athletes that I think the most important thing is to establish that it can't continue and then try to figure out how to make it work in a different way. I'm just so sick of the suggestion that there isn't a good answer for how to fix the problem so don't break the current system. The current way of doing things is classist and racist (I'm not saying it is intentionally racist but the current system disproportionately affects African Americans...so yeah, it's racist) and just cannot be something our University, or any university worth it's salt, should be involved in.

Might it ruin college sports as we know it? Sure. But that doesn't mean it doesn't need to stop. I love college sports infinitely more than pro sports. I'd hate to see it go. But as more and more money has poured in to college sports over the last few decades, the siuation has gotten disgusting.

Michigan?

Michigan sometimes plays in that Rose game you speak of? Man...I have a vague memory of something like that happening...but it's been so long I can't really remember.

Texas

Texas did something, right?  Or did they do it with a weaker class.  I honestly don't know.

This

7 years drawing an nfl pay check.  My guess is he is already out performing his fellow late second roung picks historically and by the time his career is done he will have done so by miles.

disagress.

Belien and Miles will split it

One will get media, the other will get coaches.  Book it.

You're right.

Sorry that your post was the one I jumped on. Your post(s) were spot on and identified the sanctions as only part of the problem. Mea culpa. I was trying to respond more generally to the fact that we really dug this hole ourselves in terms of how we responded following the sanctions. I don't want to compare apples to oranges, because all sanctions are different and ours were no doubt severe, but when I watch something like OSU football suffer on the field for one year and then turn around and set fire to the conference, it just reminds me that too many Michigan fans, and people on this board in particular, overstate the impact of the sanctions. Tommy Turtleneck underachieved for what, 7 years? You can maybe blame the first two on the sanctions, but if Beezer (and I realize he is once on a generation talent but it still fits the point) took over back in 02 or whenever it was we would have been back much sooner and part of the ire toward the fab five would be lessened. At least I think it would.

But again, you are right I didn't digest that part if your post. Please accept an upvote as an apology.

The sanctions didn't take away a decade of our program...

...terrible coaching by Tommy did. We prolonged our pain by being bad at basketball. Don't act like the sanctions made us suck until the Beezer era...they helped early on, but really, Ellerbe and then Tommy just blew. You can't blame our "lost decade" on sanctions alone.

How old is older?

The sanctions hit barely 10 years ago. By older do you mean 18 year olds?

The exception to the rule!

Love it.

Edit: I accidentally upvoted my own post. What happens now? I'm worried I just ripped a hole in the time-space continuum.

If you were

under 5 when the fab five were on campus, you hate them because you view them as having ruined the basketball years you actually can remember. For those of us that are a bit older, it was glorious and we still love them, and can forgive Chris for the mistakes he made as a teenager. Obviously, there are exceptions to this. But it gets old to hear people that weren't even born when they played here trash them and suggest they shouldn't be welcomed back.

Also...

Tai Streets.

Blanchard

Kid could have gone anywhere in the country. And he picked us. If he had a good coach he would have made the league. Always felt bad for him.

PAIN!!!!

For Sparty.

I don't think I could survive a just like football chant...

Mike Hart's

borderline cockyness?  Borderline?  Kid is number two behind Harbaugh as all time cockyest player at Michigan.  Not that I have a problem with either of them.

Whenever Fred goes, I want Wheatley.

Not only is he a Michigan grad...

...he was a manager for the football team. This is just gross.

OSU

I can't stand him

Throws his assistants and players under the bus whenever he can (I'm not even reffering to Clowneygate) and has given HIMSELF game balls.

I got to believe we pull this one out.

I was in the big house on Saturday and will be at Cameron tonight. My soul can't handle another in person loss in 4 days...

The best part was when we lined up for 2...

...then came the worst part.

Is this official?

I've been wondering if it will be Rick or Bob Bland.

We'll miss you Big Jon.
