It might by Saturday, but I doubt it. I was a bundle of nerves before the UConn game. Now its behind us with a W.
ND is a good team, and losing to them is not the end of the world. I am much more concerned about DR's health and durability, frankly, than a single game's W or L.
A 1-5 Purdue beat the crap out of Ohio State last week. It's not beyond the realm of possibility. Illinois was pretty bad last year, too, came into Ann Arbor and pantsed us.
"Personally, I feel the referees were actually docking Notre Dame style points for the Clausen Butt Dance."
You pick up the style point Clausen lost. Well played.
And also that a "diary" is precisely where one puts one's own emotions. Let us also not forget that you, Sir, started this by challenging whether I should have posted in the first place. If you don't like what I post, don't read it.
Before it slips my mind, "Schadenfreude" (unlike "farfegnugen") is a real German word derived from "schaden" (damage) and "freude" (joy). Copyright to the Germans, c.1895, (if anyone on this board is German, don't come looking to me for royalties; I don't pay them).
If you'd prefer, however, that I used an alternate word or phrase to describe the joy I get from another's misery, (yet another opportunity for "irony" here -- anyone else catching on?) I'll try "Roman holiday".
Actually, that may be the better term anyway, since it refers to the Romans who took delight in watching the Gladiators get slaughtered. Many thanks for helping me to see clearly now.
Hugs and kisses,
UMAero90

That's not interference on your cable or satellite, it's Lou Holtz in need of an extra dollop of PolyGrip.
Will someone PLEASE get that man a set of dentures that fit???

For you, Sir, #2 and/or #3 apply beautifully, as it appears at least 3 folks have neg pointed you for unwittingly stumbling onto the definition of "schadenfreude".
Hearing Frank Beckman's call of the final touchdown drive really gets me all verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic: "Mike Rosenberg is neither a sport nor a journalist." Discuss.
Bless You Boys!
Typical SEC Fan: "The Big Tway-uhlve don't di-sarve its high rankin's ... Oklahoma gets bayt in its own backyard buh BYU, CU got rolled buh a MAC team. The SEC is the bay-uhst conference."
Reasonable Person With Brain: "Didn't Georgia get its clock cleaned by Oklahoma State?"
SEC Fan: "Y'all like gree-uhts?"
There is no way on God's Green Earth (or any other) that I am going to root for ND. No f'ing way.
Either you abide by your Catholic principles, or you don't. ND doesn't. The "Catholic" part goes no further than Touchdown Jesus. Therefore, I can, in good "faith" pray for their loss and ruination without the slightest bit of remorse.
Was the girl beaten up because she is Muslim? Or was she beaten up simply because she was the convenient target at that moment?
Following 9/11, many people worried about racially motivated attacks on Muslims. There were far fewer than occurred against Japanese Americans after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In fact, many Christian and Jewish women reached out to Muslim women in their communities to help where they could and reduce the mistrust and fear of retribution. It was one of the bright spots from that day.
Good comments by all.
I was living in MI working from my home office for a Manhattan-based software company. I had two of my employees in the air that morning -- one headed to LaGuardia when the order was made to ground all aircraft. It took me a while to make sure everyone was okay, although one landed in Cleveland, the other in Detroit.
I found out about the WTC attack when my wife came into my office, eyes wide, and said, "Do you want the bad news or worse news?" The bad news, she said, was that she'd just struck a construction barrel driving home from a doctor's appointment and there was damage to the car. I figured that whatever was "worse" must have been news I wouldn't want to hear.
We turned on the TV and I watched CNN as the towers fell. I sat there in stunned silence as the news reporter said, "50,000 people work in those buildings." It was a miracle more weren't killed.
Who could ever forget that day?
Pray for our troops, and those in harm's way.
He's the third-most impressive ....
One Tshimanga "Tim" Biakabutuka came to the University of Michigan from Montreal, Canada, after having been born in Kinshasa.
UM players from Canada have to prevail over any other -- right?
Go Blue!
That was a stream of consciousness, dude. Adrenaline-fueled, excited ... I couldn't agree more. Except for that suckeye line -- today was not a good day for OSUck. Typical first game for those yahoos. Rest assured, though, they will come into Ann Arbor prepared.
Another Aero E grad?!? How cool is that?!?
You'd hardly recognize North Campus anymore -- MANY more buildings than what you'd remember, and an actual campus life separate from Central Campus. Almost easy to get lost driving around the place.
Most of the old Aero profs are retired or passed. An era was over when Harm Buning and Gerry Faeth died....
Go Blue!
Dude, I haven't laughed that hard at a fight song parody since I was a student at the U and we were singing a bastardized version of the Spartan Fight Song.
A couple lines from our version:
"Spartan teams they always lose
They seldom get to cruise
To L-A!
See State's defense weakening
Then hear their fans exclaim,
'Oh! No! Not A-gain!
Another loss for M-S-U!'"
The "U" never leaves you, and you never really leave it.
When I was a student in the late '80s, The Victors was my favorite Michigan song. I snickered (as I'm sure you do) at The Yellow and Blue. Now that I'm older, and have children as passionate about our beloved University as we are, hearing the Alma Mater practically bring a tear to my eye. "Michigan" is not just where we went to school -- it is a very big part of who were are, and what we want to be in the world.
Hail! Hail! to Michigan
I certainly wouldn't qualify as one of the biggest boosters, but I donate every year to the University, and I have been a member of the AAUM for nearly 20 years. I found myself in group 1 for a long time ... Until I got my head out of my ass, remembered my Michigan Football history, (esp. Bo's debut season and the reception that met him) saw the hit job in the Friggin' Freep this week, and started reading this blog. Win or lose tomorrow, I now consider myself squarely on RR's side.
HAIL!
