The Black Mirror

I actually just finished "The Black Mirror" by Scott Snyder, and it was really, really good.  It's set during the time that Dick Grayson took over as Batman in Gotham during Burce's absence.  It features Commissioner Gordon quite heavily and deals with the return of his son.  A really good read with some great art.

The Team, the Team, the Team...

Never understood why singling out individual players on a team sport was such a good idea.  Say one of our running backs gets a touchdown, is he the only one to get a sticker?  How about the linemen that created the hole, or the fullback that was the lead blocker?  The same could be said about a touchdown pass, does the QB and the WR each get one?  What about the linemen in pass protection, or the other WR that may have opened up a lane with his route?

The Team's success in an effort by all the student athletes on the Team!  Saying these players are better or more successful marginalizes the other players not in the so-called "skill positions".

Maybe I'm just a bitter ex-lineman though...

PS: Don't clutter up the helmets!  Best looking helmets in college football, no need to ruin them.

That may be the most

That may be the most productive thing he's done so far...

Don't most athletic

Don't most athletic departments use a search firm to put feelers out there?  If Patterson explicitly said "Dave Brandon" it's a good way to get around things if it was a firm that contacted him regarding his interest in the job.  It's all about what people say and how they say it.

Great...

I guess my car insurance is going up next year.  /s

Crazy?

Crazy?

I hates them...

I hates them so much...

Go Blue, beat O State!

Like you said...

We did just stop them on third and one, no reason to think we really couldn't on fourth and one.  All the defense has to do is step up and make one play, like they did in the third OT.  You have to punt in that situation, you don't make the first down, you cost yourself the game.

Most coaches will call the punt...except for maybe Les Miles.

Believe me, I understand...

Maybe it's just the knee-jerk reaction, or buying into the "definition of insanity".  I understand the only way they'll really get better is through experience, tackling better, fundamentals, etc.  It's just frustrating.  You just hope something can change that will ignite a spark, although deep down you know there really is no instant cure-all.  Although, I really do believe we need to rush more guys, especially against a young QB.  We'll see this Saturday, either way.

What difference would it make...

We're still giving up 80+ yard drives with the "bend-not-break" defense.  Why not try sending more men at the quarterback?  Yeah we may get torched a couple times, but it's no different than giving up long, sustained drives.

Apparently Avery played more man coverage in high school, so this would actually play to his strength.  It's worth a shot at least.  With Illinois having a freshman QB, I think it's more important get to him quicker, forcing him to make bad decisions.

Similar Experience

This was my first time at State College as well, and I can pretty much echo the sentiments.  Most PSU fans were nice, especially during the tailgate.  Didn't really have any bad encounters with any of their fans, didn't hear too much smack talk after the game either.  The view of Beaver Stadium from the tailgating area was cool, the whole area scenic, but I wasn't too impressed with the inside of the stadium.

Overall, it was a good experience (a win would have made it great), and I would definitely go again.

Thanks...

That picture just gave my computer syphilis.   Gotta run my anti-virus now.

Also, they are in Indiana,

Also, they are in Indiana, and I have yet to find one redeeming feature of that state.

1. It's not Ohio

That's so true...

Oh and as Hollis made clear, MSU has great rivalries with the MAC so they're all set.

I was talking with my Sparty friend yesterday about how excited I am for the first game.  He said he was bummed that he as going to miss MSU's first game, so I asked him who they were playing.  When he replied "Western", I said "Oh, no big deal" about missing the game.  He replied that he loves the games with the directional schools and hates missing them.  They really do love those MAC teams.

No

Let it be what it was, and never speak of it again.

Although it's ultimately up to the athletic department.

Charlie Adlard...

is the artist, and has been since issue 7.  Tony Moore was the artist on the first 6 issues.  It's funny because Charlie Adlard has been around a long time, since the early 90s, and the Walking Dead was some ot Tony Moore's earliest stuff.  The difference between the two is a little jarring if you're going from the first trade to the second, since their styles are a little different.  Being early Tony Moore work, he might even admit he looks back on it as being a little rough.

I'm actually a fan of Charlie's art, but I can see it not being to everyone's taste.  I think his true gift to the series is the mood he sets with his layouts...he can also draw a pretty mean zombie, IMO.  So can series writer Robert Kirkman, who drew me a zombie sketch at a convention one time.

As a fan of the series, I'm really looking forward to this show.  Hopefully they maintain the character interactions, and the anything can happen at anytime aspects that make the book so enjoyable.

I really like that divisional setup

It's the best one I've seen so fat and is pretty evenly balanced and keeps most existing rivalries except Wisky/Iowa.  It honestly makes the most sense (to me at least), which is why it'll never happen!

That's terrible...

On the other hand, let's all pitch in and get Rosenberg, Snyder, and Sharp some OSU hats.

(They probably own some anyway)

Love the picture

Looks like he's telling someone they're in for a world of hurt (I'm sure what he'd  really say would be censored)!

I hope he has a really good year.  Everything I see/hear about him suggests he's a really good guy, a hard worker, and a leader in the offensive line.  I'd really like to see him have a lot of success this year not only for our team, but hopefully for a bright future for him in the NFL.

Bill Lynch...

I still can't see out of the eye where his gum hit me last year.

Dick.

Breaking in a new jersey

I've worn a Nike 86 replica away jersey (initially for Manningham), for quite awhile now.  I also used to where a number 8 before that for Avant.  This year though, I'll be breaking in a new jersey.  After the spring game, my dad and I went to MDen to do a little shopping.  There I found an authentic number 2 Adidas home jersey and I bought it instantly.  I'm assuming it was from a year or so ago when McGuffie was starting, but I really wanted it because of Woodson.  Also hoping Vincent Smith has a really good year as well.

Maybe a T-Shirt

I don't know about rooting for them this year, but I'm thinking about wearing a Nebraska t-shirt when I go to Dallas in September for a conference.  Wearing that along with my Michigan hat should lead to some interesting conversations, I'm sure.

So really, I wouldn't be doing it support Nebraska, but more so to piss off Longhorn fans.  I guess I'm kind of a jerk. :)

Rosebowl

Which Big Ten division would get the automatic bid to the Rose Bowl?  Assuming the Big Ten also expands to 16 with two 8 team divisions.  They could probably rotate it to each division every year.

I know this is hypothetical, but that's a $#!T storm waiting to happen!

Goldfinger

Definitely.  Had the best villian line in any Bond film...

"No, Mister Bond. I expect you to die."  Classic.

Honorable mention for me would be Alec Trevelyan, 006.  Not only because I loved the movie and the video game, but because I thought it was pretty cool having a rogue MI6 agent as the big bad.

Last Week I celebrated my birthday last week. Went out with some friends and had way too many Jaeger shots. Had to piece the night together from my friends the next day, which is always fun. It's like solving a mystery! Apparently I was flirting with a girl playing pool, trying to give her pointers (She must have been pretty bad to take advice from a drunk). I guess my charms weren't what they used to be (shocking, I know), and my buddies said I was pretty bummed when she left. After the bar we went back to my place and watched the Bad News Bears, which I don't remember at all but was still pretty coherent to my friends. Also, Taco Bell at 2 in the morning after a hard night of drinking...not good. I do vaguely remember that, unfortunately. Thank God birthdays, only come once a year.
Personal Preference After all the OOT talk a few weeks back, I decided to play the Master Quest disc I got when I bought Windwaker (but had never gotten around to playing before). I figured I'd just use my Wii and used my old GC wireless controller. It works pretty well, no real difference that I can remember from the N64 controller. I think it's actually smoother to use the C joystick to play the notes on the ocarina instead of the buttons on the 64 controller. I did notice that I can't select the rumble feature, and I'm not sure if that's a limitation of my wireless GC controller, or if it would work with a N64 controller with the rumble pack. That hasn't really detracted from my enjoyment of playing the game, though.
Shouldn't it be... GERGory Robinson? :)
I'm such a nerd I read that and the first thing I thought was: "What does Nightcrawler have to do with this?" Maybe I'm just looking for anything that can bring together my two favorite things, comics and Michigan athletics!
Oddly enough... I'm like that with Jimmy Buffett. Only about two more months till I see him in Cincy! To celebrate, I'm gonna start drinking now! (That's the reason I'm drinkin', not the game.) [/self-delusional internal monologue] FINS!
Beer Lots of it. Preferably Bell's Two-Hearted, it makes the pain go away.
I used to love these games. I used to love these games. Of the first eight, I playe all except 2 and 3 (no good US ports). Started nine and never finished. I recently tried getting back into them by playing 10, but for some reason, I just couldn't get into that one either. I heard 12 was good, so I'm thinking about picking that up. I used to love RPGs when I was younger, even played the FF spin-offs like Tactics and other Square games. Not really sure why my interest waned in them, or why I can't seem to get invested in them like I used to. I plan on picking up a PS3 in the next month. I'm really looking forward to God of War III and want to play Arkham Aslyum. I'll probably pick FF13 up, hopefully this (or 12) can get me back into them.
Money I always assume the worst of corporations, but I imagine it's because they'd rather have you buy their aircards. Why offer a service for free when you can make your customers pay for a separate piece of hardware and another service plan? [/thinks everyones out to get him]
Thanks! ... and now I know, the rest of the story. I was a little muddy on some of the details, but this clears it up!
The Mr. Plow Story What is the story behind the nickname? I get that his family runs a service, but is there some other story that made it stand out? Did it have something to do with how he left? Just curious. I've seen the reference made, just always wondered if there was more to it.
Big Ten Network I have a hard time seeing them change the conference only because of the Big Ten Network. They've now used the conference name to build a brand around the network, and considering it's still technically in it's infancy, I don't see them being too willing to change it at this stage. Even though the name doesn't accurately apply to the conference, it's an image that I don't see going away very easily. I'd have no problem with a conference name change, I just don't think it's very likely.
The worst thing is... that Carroll will remain unbeaten against Michigan. I was really hoping Coach Rod would redeem us against him in a future Rose Bowl. Oh, well. He'll have to beat some other Pac-10 chump then!
Karma Wasn't he the one that said Texas Tech coaches were telling him Coach Rod wouldn't be there very long, trying to convince him to switch his commitment?
Slightly Related I was at the Chicago Comic Con this year and my friends wanted to check out the D-list celebrity area. I was wearing my Michigan hat and one of my friends was wearing a State cap. As we're walking through we see the little person from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He calls my buddy over and asks if he and I are friends, my friend responds "yes", then he asks me why I'm hanging out with a Sparty and says "Go Blue". I started busting out laughing and he starts to give my buddy more crap, it was pretty funny. It was at that point I noticed he was wearing a Tigers hat. We chatted with him for a little bit, he was really friendly and my buddy was a good sport. When I got home, I checked out IMDB and found out his name (Martin Klebba) and found out that he is from Troy, Michigan. Just goes to prove, there are Michigan fans everywhere. Our numbers are legion.
Regarding Prediction "I don't believe you." - Ron Burgundy GO BLUE!
This helps us with Zeigler According to The Only Colors: http://www.theonlycolors.com/2009/10/29/1106827/welcome-adreian-payne Payne will fill up their scholarship allotment for 2010-2011. Barring any attrition, MSU won't have any room for Zeigler. So this should really help us in Trey's recruitment.
Rumor It's been rumored before, but there's not been any confirmation. Probably won't find out until the game starts. I think it would be pretty neat, especially since Iowa fans are trying for a "blackout". Would be a pretty neat contrast.
49 Sparty and his stupid laser eyes.
Still recovering. My throat's still a little sore from the yelling yesterday. At the end of the game, my voice was horse, my hands were red and shaky, and my sides hurt. I've never screamed and yelled so hard in my life. The stadium was amazing after Matthews caught that winning pass, so loud and energized. The after game beers never tasted better than last night. Best game I've seen at the Big House, bar none.

1st Preview Is Up Thanks for doing the previews! It should take peoples minds off of other things and help to focus on the important stuff. As always these things are detailed, insightful and fun to read. Thanks for all the effort you put into this great site!
Sad Sharp actually said if their season last year wasn't as bad, it wouldn't be that big an issue. If they are doing this for the student athletes, it shouldn't matter the record. He also says the biggest problem is the divisiveness between Rodriguez and the traditionalists. I thought the problem was supposed to be over working the players? He's really showing his true colors here. He doesn't really care about the (supposed) infractions at all, and you can tell.
Carlos Brown I actually had a dream last night about the first game. Michigan received and drove it down the field in spectacular fashion. Then Brown capped it off with a quick pass catch and 20+ yard touch down. It was glorious! I can't wait either. GO BLUE!
