OT-FF13

Submitted by mgowin on
FF13 released today in the US. I have always loved this series and look forward to wasting the rest of my SB with it. Anyone else on the MGOBoard Final Fantasy fans, and if so which is your favorite? I'm probably most partial to 10 and 12, but some the older SNES games were great too.

It is friggin awesome. The multiplayer destroys Modren Warfare 2, and I enjoyed that game. I didn't plan on buying it, but after reading the reviews and seeing the videos of in-game action, I couldn't resist. Saw the IGN review of FF today. The cutscenes and some of the environments look breath-taking.

She didn't watch much before we started dating but now likes to watch on tv, and really loves to go to the games. She knows most of the positions now, and understands the basics (so we are over that awkward phase, where you want to kill them for asking all those crazy questions while you are trying to watch the game.) Oh, and she thinks all people from that certain state are lame, unless they wear blue!

"She knows most of the positions now, and understands the basics (so we are over that awkward phase, where you want to kill them for asking all those crazy questions while you are trying to watch the game." You're uh... you're talking about football exclusively here. Right?

I used to love these games. Of the first eight, I playe all except 2 and 3 (no good US ports). Started nine and never finished. I recently tried getting back into them by playing 10, but for some reason, I just couldn't get into that one either. I heard 12 was good, so I'm thinking about picking that up. I used to love RPGs when I was younger, even played the FF spin-offs like Tactics and other Square games. Not really sure why my interest waned in them, or why I can't seem to get invested in them like I used to. I plan on picking up a PS3 in the next month. I'm really looking forward to God of War III and want to play Arkham Aslyum. I'll probably pick FF13 up, hopefully this (or 12) can get me back into them.

funny thing, the guy at best buy told me they were out of PS3's. thought that it was a strange time of year to be sold out of a console. They redesigned and lowered the price a while back, maybe that's got something to do with it. 12 was great, I really enjoyed it! If you are just getting a PS3 I'd buy killzone2. I'm normally lukewarm about first person shooters, but that was a great game IMO.

Sony, finally, has a great line-up of exclusive titles. God of War 3 and Heavy Rain are probably a driving force behind increased sales right now. Another possible explanation: About a week ago, Sony reported its older consoles (every unit except the new mini version) were affected by a glitch that corrupted the systems, making some unplayable. It lasted for a day before an update was issued, but I'm not sure whether it is completely resolved.

I was at the midnight release last night, and have been playing almost non-stop. FF13 may be the most visually stunning game I have ever played.

Just finished playing it. Got to level 3 and decided it was time to stop for a while. My first impressions are that 1) I agree, the most beautiful scenes I have ever witnessed in a game. 2) It is much faster and action/adventure oriented than the earlier (even 12) games. I don't like that you only control the 1 character, and that you don't specifically set the actions/spells that your party uses. Its very macro, while the other games allowed you micro-manage the battles. Overall, it is quite a departure, but not always in a bad/negative way. Again, the visuals are extremely compelling.

Picked it up at midnight as well, but work gets in the way of all things fun. It's a tough call for me between IV, VI, and VII, but I think the story and unprecedented scope give VII the edge.

XII was my favorite. I really enjoyed the side characters in the party, especially Balthier. Best series villain is a tie between Sephiroth and Kefka imo. I never really get into the heros like I do the other party characters and the villains.
