‪Not gonna lie I think this…

‪Not gonna lie I think this article sort of gives these other programs a free pass. It misses the mark a bit. As many of you mentioned, the reason this whole thing is important is because these actions are in violation of the B1G’s sportsmanship policy…which is the same policy UM is being accused of breaking.‬ Maybe I missed it twice through, but I didn’t see any mention of this in the article.

I’ve listened to a bit of…

I’ve listened to a bit of Red Wings radio, and Paul Woods has sounded a little out-of-touch in recent years. I wouldn’t put much stock in this. As a lot of you already mentioned, it’s pretty customary for teams to bring up a player for a maximum of 9 games (so they don’t burn the first year of an entry level contract). I can’t recall a time an NHL team has ever asked an NCAA player to sign before their respective NCAA season ended. Unless an NHL team is in a playoff race and needs reinforcements (which Buffalo is not), there is no reason to rush. In fact, I’ve heard many GMs say they want their prospects to get experience playing in playoff atmospheres (such as the SHL Playoffs, the Calder Cup Playoffs, and the Frozen Four). So unless Power is super disgruntled/wants off the team, he’ll sign with Buffalo after U of M wins the natty or is eliminated from contention.

If any of you are comparing…

If any of you are comparing Fields to previous OSU QBs, you haven't been watching. If he falls to 7, the Lions will regret if they don't take him.

I'm gonna be honest: I'm…

I'm gonna be honest: I'm surprised how much of me doesn't want Illinois to win after their "title" claims.

I FORGOT TO GET MY PACZKIS

I FORGOT TO GET MY PACZKIS

I think it depends on the…

I think it depends on the schedule. I'd be curious to know the crossovers matchups we'd have for this year. My guess is they'll want to be consistent with the two changing opponents on every team's schedule (this year: Purdue and Minny), dropping the annual (or "permanent") crossover from each schedule (Wisconsin).

The only problem with this solution is that Indiana and Purdue would get cancelled. But maybe they would arrange it so they automatically play each other in the 9th game?

Assuming this is the case... 7-1.

They actually just changed…

They actually just changed the main page to a photo of only Dabo. Then they changed it again to Dabo, Calipari, Sumlin, and Harbaugh. Haha  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the people that have…

For the people that have anxiety about this kind of stuff: don't stress, human cases in the U.S. happen every year. :)

Even though he took a…

Even though he took a redshirt, he'll need to sit out another year, right? Not too sure how this works anymore, but he should have three years of eligibility regardless.

Ah. Fair point fair point.

Ah. Fair point fair point.

Ok Boomer. You maaaaaay want…

Ok Boomer. You maaaaaay want to do some research before giving your two cents. Not just one guy:

- Mitch Marner
- Mike Commodore
- Carlo Colaiacovo
- Chris Chelios
- Johan Franzen
- Darren McCarty

...And to further fact check:

"Fuck Franzen.  Babcock has won every major championship at every level in his entire sport."

From 1991 until today, he's coached at three different levels (CHL, AHL, and NHL), with one championship to show for it. And I'd argue the Red Wings won in 2008 DESPITE Babcock, not because of him.

When we have all these accounts of him manipulating players and treating others like garbage (players, rink personnel, press, etc.), there's truth to it. Babcock himself has admitted to some of these allegations (Marner). And it's not like these rumors have come out of nowhere; they've been circulating throughout his time in Detroit. We've also come to find out that what he did to Marner, he also did to a rookie in Detroit. Hope he learns from his mistakes and betters himself, but glad he's finally being called out.

Washington is 16th. Even…

Washington is 16th. Even though they have five losses, they lost four of their games by one possession (including Oregon and Utah) and all of their games by no more than ten points. If Eason comes back next year, there's a good chance we'll face the Pac-12 favorite (with Herbert and Huntley/Moss graduating).

EDIT: This is why the OP put "imagine being a Washington fan". They're a good team but haven't seen the results this year.

These announcers are…

These announcers are annoying. Their negative comments about Castleton on his travel, and making a big deal about DeJulius having his toe on the line for that three-pointer... They're just a little over the top.

"Can't blame the refs when…

"Can't blame the refs when you should've ____________________________."

Insert: scored more touchdowns than field goals, built a bigger lead, protected the ball better, etc.

In the first half, Shea was…

In the first half, Shea was hit on a slide and there was also an uncalled delayed hit on Bell when he was out of bounds. I know there were bigger missed calls in that first half, but it just seems like we couldn't get even just a little break, which could've helped us gain some much needed traction. On the Hill call, I understood it in the moment 'cause Hill was playing aggressive/had his hands in a bad spot when the guy slipped. But it's tough looking at that play in comparison to how the rest of the game was called.

I know we could've played better in the first 20 some minutes, but bad officiating affects games (like Florida vs. South Carolina). And as a Lions fan, I was questioning the point of following football once halftime came around. I'm not asking for bad calls to make up for bad calls, I just want it called fairly. And I know I have some bias, but man, it doesn't seem like it goes that way.

Love the 'Take On Me' cover…

Love the 'Take On Me' cover by Weezer. But if you never listened to Relient K's cover album, you should give it a go (Relient K - Is for Karaoke EP). I personally enjoy their versions of Africa and EWTRTW more than Weezer's. Oh and make sure to give the 'Motorcycle Drive By' a good listen.

Memphis Express. My brother…

Memphis Express. My brother and I just picked random teams. I chose them because of their red-blue color scheme. Tennessee's also a neat state.

Haha fair. Though, rifling…

Haha fair. Though, rifling is the one NCAA-sanctioned sport that sticks out that could be synonymous to e-sports in terms of physical activity; if you haven't seen any videos you should take a look. Though you do make good points. While I land on the side that it should be considered a "sport" in general, I agree that e-sports isn't exactly a fit for the NCAA in terms of what they offer. It probably won't get adopted, but I can see a lot of positivity if they did; just some ideas:

- Could be a domino in allowing student athletes to make money off of themselves.
- Could offer another way for students who can't afford an education to pay for one.
- Could grow e-sports in the U.S. (even some college sports are more popular in the U.S. than pro sports).

Thank you for your insights…

Thank you for your insights. :)

WD, they all require…

WD, they all require physical activity, but the extents vary. People who play football, soccer and tennis could say golf, bowling, and rifling aren't "athletes" because at no points do they require running. Then the golfers, bowlers, and riflers could say poker, esports, and racers aren't athletes because they're always "sitting down". Then the gamers and racers could say that their hands and their brains are strained 10x more than a bowler or a golfer with the need to constantly adjust and have a head on a swivel.

There's never going to be an absolute consensus on what a sport is, and what it isn't; similarly, who an athlete is and who it isn't. We're all entitled to our opinions, but so is the NCAA (and they'll add what they add: like rifling for example). I just don't know why so many people die on the hill that gamers aren't athletes, it's not a sport, and it shouldn't even be a conversation. It's all relative.

Correct, And I never said…

Correct, And I never said you said those things. But what I was trying to say is if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck (or a sport for that matter). Rifling (ncaa), bowling (ncaa), golf (ncaa), e-sports, poker, darts, they're all the same in my opinion. What distinguishes an "activity" from a "sport" in your opinion?

ViDeO gAmEs WiLl NeVeR bE a SpOrT.  -_-

When you have tournament's with prize pools nearly doubling the Daytona 500 and U.S. Open, or having pools with 10x more winning than the Kentucky Dirby or Tour de France, you can't deny that people will flock to the money. But that's just a fraction of it. I hate to break it to you, but gaming is competitive and an extremely difficult craft to learn and to hone.. It has a following, and an audience that is only growing.

If you have a problem, maybe you should ask if other sports should be doing something different? I just find it funny that you don't like people on your lawn, but have no problem stomping on your neighbors'...

I thought he did too, but I…

I thought he did too, but I tried looking up an official statement but couldn't find anything. The reality is that Harbaugh looks out for his assistant coaches, and by saying he'd be "making changes", it could diminish their value/future opportunities. It's not his style. He'll probably tell his assistants to explore other gigs in confidence.

I know there have been quite…

I know there have been quite a few threads on Kingsbury, but don't quite understand why the moms take them down. Is it because they don't want to start a trend of having every name out there get a thread made about them? Or is it because there's no point in talking about it if there isn't a position open? OR is it because the majority of the conversation centered around the offensive philosophy and that topic was discussed in many of the previous threads?

Just looking for some clarification.

Don't know about you, but…

Don't know about you, but where I come from we call ^this^ "lying". ;)

...Unless you do have a 103° fever, then yeah, use this good excuse.

Get outta here Ken.

Get outta here Ken.

Pep Hamilton was actually…

Pep Hamilton was actually listed as one of twenty-three possible coaching candidates by a NJ website... It noted he went to and coached at Howard in DC.

https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2018/11/maryland_football_coaching_candidates_could_ex-rut.html

You're right; I agree. I…

You're right; I agree. I kind of lost my train of thought up there but I guess my point is that
the other losses make choosing who to root for quite frustrating and complicated.

The truth is that the early…

The truth is that the early non-conference losses by most of the teams on the upper half of the B1G are really bringing down each others' resumes:

Michigan's L to Notre Dame
Michigan State's L to ASU
Wisconsin's L to BYU
Northwestern's Ls to Duke and Akron
Purdue's Ls to EMU and Missouri
Maryland's L to Temple

As opposed to having one loss or two losses at this point, we're all beating each other up and pushing each other out of the rankings rather than getting boosts for underdog victories. I know the polls don't completely matter, but if Purdue doesn't lose those two early games, you bet they're a #10 - #12 1-loss team right now with that win over OSU (take Texas' jump after their win over OU). The unfortunate reality is that our conference shot ourselves in the foot really leaving little room for error.

FWIW: Yesterday I saw this…

FWIW: Yesterday I saw this draft projection on CBS that had Gary going 28th to the Ravens:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2019-nfl-mock-draft-jaguars-move-on-from-blake-bortles-dolphins-do-the-same-with-ryan-tannehill/

No other Wolverines were listed.

I agree. I feel like a lot…

I agree. I feel like a lot of the people here are a little too legalistic when it comes to who our "rivals" are. I hate to break this tough stuff news, but there was a time when OSU, MSU, and ND weren't our rivals. Rivalries aren't some super elite club that only a few respective schools can and will ever get into. And I understand where people come from when they say "we need tradition/history/geography to have an official rivalry". Welp. The endzone is blue, we have maize jerseys, we give players historical jersey numbers, we play night games, the big ten is at 14 teams, etc.. History is continually being made.

I have a strong dislike for Franklin, the school, the fans, etc. I want to beat them when they're good and when they're bad. Feels like a rivalry to me.

Me neither. It's summer -…

Me neither. It's summer - too warm out for that ish.

mmmmmm I love the optimism;…

mmmmmm I love the optimism; IT'S SO NICE.

Similar boat here: 12-2 and we'll call ourselves Big Ten champs.

Croatia's my second favorite…

Croatia's my second favorite soccer team (I'm part Croatian) next to the US. It's weird cause I've had the exact same feeling as I did throughout the Wolverines' tourny run. I think they'll get to the final but won't get it done. :(

Confession time:

Sometimes, when our biggest rivals play in big games against out-of-conference schools, a part of me wants to see them win.

It only stems from wanting our SOS/resume to be as difficult as possible (and ultimately for our benefit). I'm not proud of it, but a lot of times it's how I feel when watching the games.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Donut Bar in Southfield

Let's just go halfsies on a dozen and call it a day.

If he's 5'11" and ending his

If he's 5'11" and ending his Junior year in HS, I'd bet dollars to donuts he'll be 6' by college.

The second best player on

The second best player on Edmonton is Leon Draisaitl no questions asked. Agree with you on the Edmonton defense though. McDavid's faster and flashier than Crosby. But cups aside, if you watch Crosby, the thing that separates him from McDavid is his smart play, hand-eye coordination, and positioning. He creates goals out of absolutely nothing.

Last year Connor Sheary

Last year Connor Sheary played on a line with Crosby for a good portion of the season. He ended up with 53 points in 61 games. This year he got bumped down to the third line and finished with 30 points in 79 games. Each player has worked hard to get to where they're at, but if you don't think Crosby is the one elevating everyone else's play you're being a loony. :)

I hated Crosby after those

I hated Crosby after those two Stanley Cup Finals vs. the Wings. But man as time has gone on, it's hard to dislike the guy. He's one of the best in the world and a class-act off the ice. Some fun stories below showing how genuine and sincere of a guy he is:

With that said, I'd hate to see the Penguins win three straight. Go Caps!

I actually think it'd be

I actually think it'd be super fun to play both VT and Washington in the same season. One could have an off year; but if they're both good, AWESOME. We'll have the most respectable and toughest schedule in the NCAA. 1 or even 2 losses (in the first 6 six games) + winning out and a Big Ten Championship would definitely put us in contention for the playoff.

If one of these two series are canceled I'll be bummed.
