So.... there gonna be a press conference or no?

Anyone heard anything? I feel like if nothing is announced today then the prick skates. It seems way too quiet. It’s like the news cycle is about to move along.

We’ll see i Guess. But, as I mentioned in another thread, OSU first fall camp practice was moved up from 3:30pm to 9:30 am. Could that be the reason?  It seems at least plausible. Only time will tell.

Dude, they aren't going to announce a formal panel of both insiders and outsiders to do a thorough investigation, then have a press conference the next day outlining their findings. That's just...dumb...

Yes. 1984 guy, or Mineral King, Benn, WD, or any of his other thousand names posted last night that family of his in Cbus was a personal friend of Urban, spouting nonsense "inside info".

How do people not connect the dots here? I mean, seriously.

No press conference today. Meyer will indeed skate. Multiple game suspension at most. OSU will play the victim the entire season while having an “us against the world” mentality. It's going to be pathetic.

I don't think there's been enough time for a decision, but the longer this thing drags out the more likely it is that he is retained.  At least that's what it seems like to me.

So confused. You created a thread asking if there is going to be a press conference. And you say "This" to a post that gives an opinion on why there will not be a conference. It feels like you didn't think there will be a conference but wanted someone else to agree with you. Waste of thread if you ask me.

They never thoroughly checked Dodge Chargers sold for a dollar - "yep - the sale was legally titled - nothing to see - don't mind the price recorded or lack of significant financial withdrawal by the player..."  - so why do we think they'll dig deep now?

I'm in the cynical facade of an investigation followed by a 4 game suspension camp (I.e., back for Penn State)

I just think that this is now an intriguing choice for Ohio State - either do what most any other institution would have likely summarily done and let Meyer go or concoct a way to keep him and confirm a perception that is held by many people regarding your program, a perception molded by your own behavior.

I think their dilemma is even more difficult - the reporter has clearly chased this story for weeks and stated yesterday that he has more stuff.  They cannot risk a clearance of Urban after a panel investigation if the reporter can trump their decision.

Plus, there are many incidents involving Zach beyond the 2015 and 2009 incidents cited so far - how will the panel really vet all incidents that could have occurred? They cannot take Urban’s word that nothing else exists. The panel almost has the impossible task of “proving innocence” by Urban over the last 20 years based on his contract.

I think you're giving them waaaaay too much credit.

I think their only concern is: can we keep him? If they find a way, any way, to keep him, they will.

And given that it's apparently turning out to not be a legal issue, Title IX or otherwise - just an ethical issue - at least, that's what the most recent stuff I've seen says - then I have no doubt that they will say screw ethics, give us the Ws. Really no doubt about that.

Only thing that would stop it is if something else comes up that does make it a legal issue. Which it might, and which I think the committee is tasked with doing. That's their "can we keep him?" criterion. "We can keep him if we don't find anything that will make it a legal issue," by which I mean, find something that the NCAA or the courts will use to force OSU to get rid of Urban. If they don't find anything like that, then their answer to "can we keep him" is yes, and by damn sure they will keep him.

They floated the smear job and victim blaming last night and enough of their own fan base bought it that they know they won't have an internal riot if he's retained. Now it's just time to play the news cycle game, let things cool off, and reinstate him in time for that TCU road game.

It is unlikely that the Blue Ribbon Commission named to investigate the Scarlet Letter doings of the OSU coaching staff have had much chance to meet let alone come to a conclusion. That is, if they are going to thoroughly gather and analyze the evidence and come to a fair and logical conclusion.

If there is going to be a press conference today that will deliver bad (for OSU) news, look for that bomb to drop right around 5 pm EDT.

I have spent 44 years in the media and communications industry and this is a common practice for delivering bad news. When you do it late during Friday business hours you get the news out in time for the evening TV news but do not give the press time to do much followup. Also, the weekend is a quiet hard news period. The ink-stained wretches and their ilk want Saturday and Sunday off just like the rest of us. These factors combine to mute the story.

It also gives the PR guys and their overlords time to come up with the spin that will put them in the best light come Monday.
