Transfer Hello: LB Edward Warinner

He’s a 6’0 229lb LB transferring from MSU. Class of 2018 kid who took a redshirt year. Obviously he’s the son of Ed Warinner

depends on how you define good. He's a hard worker who can bring a lot of value on Special Teams. Don't see him ever being a meaningful contributor defensively. Really don't care if he's on scholarship because it's worth it to make BigEd happy if it comes to it.

He's gotta be walking on right? He's been primarily a special teams player in this two years at MSU. Goes to show you how south things have gone at MSU that a player is leaving a scholarship to go walk on

What I like best about this is that it implies his Dad isn't going anywhere any time soon.

In reality, having an experienced special teams player (especially if he's a walk-on) is a good addition to the team.  Also, our 2020 LB depth isn't great behind the starters so he is a nice insurance policy too.

Seems like he will have to sit another year for transferring, so he is effectively a 2021 recruit. Cant imagine he gets a waiver. This follows the 2020 year where we took 4 ILBs.

Also people in this thread saying he could be a walk-on...is that even within the rules? I thought scholarships were guaranteed for 4 years these days, does transferring change that equation?

Pretty sure that a 4-year ride is a series of four one-year scholly's, promised upfront.  And its a contract/promise between school and player.  If the player transfers, that scholly is gone and is new school has to pony up a new scholly promise.

No idea on what/when/how Junior's UM scholly will be handled.
