When I played, you could play in non conference games and still maintain your redshirt, however, that was nearly 15 years ago and in the MAC. dunno what the B1G rule is or if the NCAA has changed that at all.
I know where he's coming from. When I was being recruited in HS, I had made up my mind that if I didn't recieve an offer from a D1 school or if I got a B1G offer from a school other than Michigan, I was goin' to walk on at either little brother or tOSU or take the B1G offer from where ever as out of state tuition for Michigan was FAR too expensive for my parents (a cop and a mail carrier) to afford. I'd have simply packed away my Michigan gear until graduation and unpacked it after. Luckily, I had a few MAC offers and it never came to that, plus, We (BGSU) got to be a MACrifice in 2000 and play in the Big House, so I kinda got my cake and could eat it too :-P
The Marine Corps is the Navy's land forces, it's run by the Department of the Navy and is not a "separate" branch of the armed forces in that sense. Annapolis grads choose to serve their military commitment in either the Navy or the Marines.
Yeah, I played for him, he also recurited me while he was at ND. I was kind of excited when we hired him. I loved Coach Blackney, and it was hard to see him go, but I figured with meyer: at least he knew me. Man was I wrong! He picked people to "pick on" until they left the program. kept holding shit over our heads that had happened at BGSU before ANY of us came there. to top it all off, I played my entire last seaon with a separated shoulder and shreaded everything in there so bad it took 5 years AFTER reconstructive surgery before it was back to 100%...bastard pulled my scholly when I chose the use of my arm over my senior year. didn't even let me keep it the second half of my junior year, took it during winter break. I still pray to this day I'll run into him in a dark alley somewhere. From what I've heard, his ethics haven't changed any as far as his win at all costs, kids be damed mentality goes. I know ALOT of Ohio fans that weren't happy with his hire and regardless of his 12-0 season still aren't happy with him.
WolvinLA2, +1 to you sir, you hit the nail on the head...when we ened up hiring Hoke, I was scared to death they'd hire meyer....I'd have had to burn ALL of my Michigan belongings...or at least put them in storage for 3-4 years.
I'm stuck in bucknut country, my Number 1 favorate thing to do when an Ohio fan that doesn't know me goes: "You're a Michigan fan!?" is to watch their face go from flabergasted, to astonished to "yeah, he's right" when I answer: "Yeah, because I have class."
They NEVER have a response to it because they all know how horrible most of their bretheren are.
Can I have a million points too!? Hate to see ya go BiSB, you've been one of my favorite mods BC you're so involved in all the discussions. Hope you reconsider after so much deserved down time. And congrats in advance!!!
this suit is beyond retarded, when i played college ball, i was stoked to be in NCAA '01 and if i'd been good enough to go to the NFL, i wouldn't have asked for a dime to be in Madden. why can't people just enjoy little things like this: i.e. the honor of being good enough at something to have your likness included in a best selling franchise video game....
There is a HS in central Ohio that has allowed boys to play on the girls field hockey team in the past (the school name escapes me, it was featured on ESPN a few years ago) bc there is no boys team. Title IX does work both ways...odd I know, but this particular story bothers me bc if a girl/woman has the fortitude to play organized sports with boys/men more power to them. I've played football against a team that had a girl playing for them, just treated her like any other player, and that's how it should be. Between the lines, an athlete is an athlete regardless of anatomy.
The ONLY thing that got Nebraska a piece of the 'ship that year was Osbourne announcing his retirement. We were sooo dominant that year, it wasn't even funny
It might not have been a physical thing, could have been phycholgical. regardless, 36 reps at 2 1/4 is no small feet. He'll have another chance at the pro-day as well.
