Still No HTTV

Submitted by Gopherine on

Still haven't received my kickstarter pre-order copy of HTTV. Anyone else in the same boat?

Edit: I ordered a plain copy, not a signed copy or an order with a t-shirt.

UPDATE: Email from Brian via Kickstarter:

After a series of unforeseen but in retrospect extremely predictable delays, we have shipped everything that we have data on. If you filled out the Kickstarter survey before June 21st, your magazine should have been in the mail over a week ago by now. If you filled it out later, they shipped just recently.

But I am getting a lot of emails asking what's up. I don't really know, other than "it's shipped, that's what I've been told." Underground does, and has set up an email address at [email protected] that you can ping if you're still sans magazine. They can tell you the exact status of your order.

Sorry about all this. If you want the hairy details, the publishers tried to slap on a huge extra charge at the last second, we found a new publisher, this slipped our date, our designer made the thing a non-standard size on accident, this caused a great deal of difficulty getting things shipped economically, and figuring all this out took far longer than you might expect because we're n00bs. Next year we should have it down.

-Brian

PS: If you didn't fill out the survey, just email the above address with your address and shirt preferences (if relevant).

I got mine on Thursday, I had the signed magazine and the photobomb shirt. I live in Atlanta, so those special orders are starting to make their way further out.

I bought it on the last day of Kickstarter and I'm in Illinois.

I'm not necessarely upset about the time it has taken, but I do wish Brian and Seth were more responsive about the issues people are having. Even if it's all UGP, Brian would make a lot of people happier with a paragraph about it in a UV post, or if Seth came onto the previous thread and told us what he knew about the shipping process. I haven't thought it was worthwhile to bother them with emails yet, but I am starting to get worried about it arriving.

Seth did have a comment on an earlier HTTV update thread. It was over two weeks ago, but I think it still holds true for anyone that is still waiting. The gist: a lot of the orders were being delayed while they got the t-shirts together and Brian to sign the hundreds of copies that needed signatures.

I'm kind of wondering if I should have just declined the signature that came with my Kickstarter order. Sure, I would have thrown away tons of potential future value by not having my copy signed by the one and only Brian Cook. But I would probably have it by now.

I remember seeing that, but like you said it was two weeks ago. I still think an update like "Brian finished signing all of them, everything is in the mail and this is what UGP told me yesterday" would be nice to hear.

When it comes down to it, people paid for a product and should be treated as well as possible. I realize delays happen, but they should take a more proactive role in satisfying their customer base. It's been three weeks since all these copies should have shipped, and besides that post by Seth there hasn't been anything from the publishers. They aren't exactly in danger of losing my business next year, but I'm starting to doubt the usefulness of paying upfront (which is how they got startup capital this year).

Again, I don't mean to come across as overly upset over a magazine, but I do think the guys making money off this could handle customer service in a better way, given that the problem appears to be widespread.

If there's a Rueben R. on the board, I have your HTTV. I got mine, and when I opened it up, there was Brian's sig to Rueben R. on the indside of the cover

I ordered mine just last week.  If for some reason mine does come in the mail soon, I think I'll stay quiet about it so the news doesn't start an MGo riot.

I live in Newport Beach, CA and received my signed copy and photobomb T yesterday. Shouldn't be long now for everyone else.

Glad I just bought mine at UGP so that I had it in time for my 2 week trip to Europe. Made for great reading throughout the trip and on the plane. One of the many benefits of still living in Ann Arbor.

I'm somewhat irritated now, as I happened to be near UGP and walked in and saw the exact shirt (which I wanted instead of the photobomb special) and a copy of HTTV sitting on the shelf, on Monday...oh well.

I am not worried, I am sure it will arrive by the end of the month.  Its not like it will matter if I read it this week, next week, or the follow week.

Does it help if I tell you I live in Grand Rapids, didn't order a t-shirt, but got my copy more than a week ago?

Probably not.

It's well worth the wait, though. It's the best preview magazine I've read.

Don't kill me.

that I know that I'm not alone.  (In NYC, didn't order t-shirt or qualify for autograph.)  Of course, it's Saturday and I have to make a special trip downstairs to check the mail.  If I find it on my way back from errands, I'll update.

So, have any of you waiting actually called the people distributing it?  UGP can probably, at minimum, tell you when yours was shipped.  Emailing Brian doesn't seem to be the best approach to the situation.  Nor does making a post on the MGoBoard.
