|17 hours 19 min ago||this conference is too big.||
the single-plays are a drag...possibly-elite teams should always have home-and-home series during the regular season. not suggesting that the conference should adjust based on the season outlook, either, because you really don't want to bring up the possibility that someone got their schedule jiggered for an easier path. but we have more one-way opponents than home-and-home opponents...that's not right, is it?
i, for one, LOVE it when we have to go into a really tough arena like kohl. those are some of my favorite games to watch, and they can really toughen a team.
also - 2-round byes in the tournament? yuck.
|1 day 20 hours ago||ok||
so what would you like him to say?

I think there are still openings for Smile Ambassadors, however.
|1 week 1 day ago||finally.||
...a day that the athletic department doesn't do something cheesy and annoying.
(...whisper whisper lego movie whisper michigan stadium...)
oh, crap. never mind. almost made it.
|1 week 3 days ago||wait for it...||
they won't get anywhere near a sellout, i don't care how many alumni live in chicago.
|1 week 3 days ago||no.||
the problem is not in neutral site games per se, or in the reduced value of a season ticket package, or in the inconvenience of driving to chicago. the problem is that hosting home games against your biggest rival in any sport is something you should not give up for any amount of money. home games against msu - in any sport you can name - are an unmitigated good.
if you want to say that money to fuel other athletic department programs or facilities is also a good, fine. i agree with that, too, to a point. the problem - as always - is that the athletic department was given a choice between the good of a home game against our bitterest rival and the (assumed) good of money...and chose money. THEY ALWAYS CHOOSE MONEY.
the thing is, if they wanted the money, i suspect that they could get the same amount by scheduling a one-off against denver, or colorado college, or duluth...or notre dame (well, obviously)
|1 week 3 days ago||i've said it before, and i will continue saying it...||
there is literally nothing this athletic department will not do for money. nothing.
|1 week 4 days ago||can someone explain the 'gps||
can someone explain the 'gps tracking' thing for me?
i'm assuming it means that they're putting some sort of sensor in the helmets to see how much they run during a session? did i miss that previously?
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||I'm not so sure...||
...let's not pretend that we're third in merchandise sales because of this crap, and I doubt we'd slip down the list without it.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||you know, that's a great point.||
i get the internet-age obsession with alt-unis. well, i sorta get it.
but they do all look (as my late father would say) like cans of smashed assholes. you know what a great alt uni would be? white numbers on blue jerseys. hell, do black for black's sake. whatever. but what's with the goddamn striped numbers?
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||eff this.||
it's official, dave brandon and his band of goddamn smile ambassadors have beaten me.
i don't even give a shit about this stuff any more.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||the thought of saying "oh, wide open"...||
...about one of our guys instead of someone behind a GERG defense?
it's gettin' me all tingly.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||to paraphrase the supreme court,||
i can't define chemistry, but i know it when i see it. and there are teams that never quite jell no matter how much talent they have. there were times last season when it was patently obvious that they weren't going to fight their way out of a hole, or step on a team's throat, or whatever. whatever "it" is, that team didn't have it. it reminded me of a recent hockey team or two - talented guys, but willing to let a teammate get mugged on the ice without repercussions.
again, i have no idea if that's what happened last year, or if it was as simple as a talent deficit, or a lack of offensive cohesiveness, whatever...but they never quite came together.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||THANK you...||
thought you buried the lede on the beilein jr. story. quin g.d. snyder, nba coach. it's a weird freaking world, man.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||thank you.||
nothing more need be said, except condolences to you and your loved ones.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||i don't understand.||
...i don't understand the "what could go wrong" comment. i mean, i know we hate the free press and all that, but isn't this just a fluff piece?
|13 weeks 4 days ago||grr.||
"Michigan made a profit of 90 million dollars from 2007-08 to 12-13, an average profit of 15 million per year."
i can't tell you how much this sentence pisses me off. a university is not for profit.
|16 weeks 3 days ago||grading systems||
i dont' think i could parse out the relative values of the events on the grading charts, but it's probably worth remembering that the charts in question probably have less to do with "true" value of a specific event (as in UFR) than with motivating the players in the room during a team or group meeting. i'm guessing, too, that a recovered fumble probably does more to pick up a sideline than a forced (but unrecovered) fumble. same with a sack vs. a hurry - the hurry is hugely important but doesn't light up a sideline as much.
|17 weeks 17 hours ago||so long, farewell...||
...good luck to him. loved having him around.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||hm.||
i don't think the post was 100% serious.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||love, love LOVE||
that brandon is thinking about (and using the phrase) "driveway to driveway." it really captures...the...um...
wait, what the hell was that? did i just have a stroke? there i was, reading what i thought were coherent sentences, and THAT shit popped up. weird.
|17 weeks 3 days ago||interesting.||
an extended riff on CAPA and NCAA hypocrisy is immediately followed by a note on this fall's trip to f***ing rutgers. these things are not unrelated.
|18 weeks 16 hours ago||yes, it's a crappy schedule.||
...but if you think that this is a problem that gets completely fixed by a better one you are dead, dead, dead, D-E-D dead wrong. ticket prices are too damn high.
|18 weeks 23 hours ago||oh crap||
i can't believe i brought up that one thing but didn't mention the other thing. i don't know what i was thinking!
|18 weeks 1 day ago||here's what i think||
he might come out but then again he might not and if he does then we'll play mark donnal at the five and drop someone else into the four but then again maybe donnal will play the four he's a good shooter you know and bulked up since last year and has been playing well in practice but the person i think is getting forgotten is max bielfeldt because he played quality minutes sometimes and boy it's too bad horford left we really could have used him next year i guess his girlfriend and it's okay because beilein is really great and he can really develop talent i wonder if we'll need a big man caris is a good wing player who can get to the rim and maybe we don't want a big guy clogging the middle and sparty has big guys izzo is whiney anyway mcgary is good i like his attitude we'll need someone who plays aggressively and besides if he stays he'll improve his draft stock the draft isn't as deep next year but lots of money either way and maybe he's just ready to go but maybe not and he might not want to be the last of the big three left but maybe he wants to make his own legacy.
i think that covers it. but then again, maybe not. someone should start another thread to talk it over.
|18 weeks 1 day ago||gibson||
i think the killing of gibson the same way as the killing of stevie brown, or for that matter the killing of al borges: overstated because fans overstate. we tend to boil these things down as binary, either terrible or great, partially because it's fun to make a case and partially because it's way easier than trying to distinguish shades of grey.
i didn't like our secondary while he was here. there were many more reasons for our general suckiness than just tony gibson.
|18 weeks 3 days ago||best of luck to both.||
they were both big parts of two fun, fun seasons. they get to walk out with their heads held high and no regrets.
|18 weeks 3 days ago||6 fouls||
two things: first, i seem to recall the big east doing that for a few years a while back, possibly during the dark days of big east thuggery. i don't think it lasted too long, though. and second, 6 fouls makes more sense in the nba at least partially due to game length - 6 fouls per 48 minutes exactly equals 5 fouls per 40.
|18 weeks 3 days ago||well, i feel even dumber than usual.||
...although i could've sworn i'd seen one recently. guess not.
|18 weeks 3 days ago||time outs||
somebody, please ban the "falling out of bounds" timeout post-haste. if you're not in control of your body, you're not in control of the ball.
