19 hours 1 min ago	Good point re McHale.  He	Good point re McHale.  He went through a period from '87-'90 where he was damn near unstoppable when he had the ball within 10' of the rim.  The Pistons made it hard for Bird to set up in the post or step outside b/o Rodman and the years of playoff battles were taking a toll on his back.  Parish was always a weak link against stronger line-ups.  It makes me shudder to think what an optimized Len Bias could have done for that team.
20 hours 8 min ago	There's much we can debate,	There's much we can debate, but Bird was correct - the Celtics had a chance to repeat and the Piston's didn't.  Whether or not Bird was deserved of the "hype" was irrelevant.  His teams won three (3) NBA titles and we can only find a handful of players in the 80's that can claim more success.  Moreover, I have trouble believing that Bird won three (3) MVP's (not to mention a shitload of other honorariums) based on "hype."   Listen, I'm a rare fan of both franchises for a variety of uninteresting reasons.  IMHO, it was the greatest period of pitched battle in NBA history (Celtics/Sixers, Celtics/Lakers, Celtics/Pistons, Pistons/Bulls).  For whatever reason David Stern wasn't enamoured with any of it.  Hopefully we get a flavor of it with the upcoming Pacers/Heat series.

I think Isaiah later apologized, but it took a while. In fact, reporters asked Isaiah if he thought the Celtics had a chance to beat the Lakers and repeat as champions and he said "No way, not a chance". Bird, upon learning of Zeke's prognosis: "Well, at least we have a chance, and [the Pistons] don't."

Post-Jordan bulls are an afterthought. Nobody goes to Cubs games to watch baseball. Nobody GOES to White Sox games. The Bears get support in spite of themselves and that deformed spaceship of a stadium. So you got me there. Chin-up! You could still win this game. But, gosh, it'll sure suck to lose this series after you all but gave yourselves the Cup a couple months ago.

I wonder if some of the empty seats issue can be traced to the current requirement that nonstudents must validate student tix. Seemed like it was easier to unload the games you couldn't or wouldn't go to when the potential buyer wasn't faced with a hefty surcharge. As a result, more folks were able to buy and use student section tix.
3 weeks 5 days ago	Not really.  Players change,	Not really.  Players change, etc, but the uniform is a constant element of fandom.  If you have good memories of your team wearing a particular uniform, you're probably more likely to want to keep that uniform.  In this case, nobody gives a shit about the Jags, so any change is welcome.  The Dolphins have a past tradition of winning in a uniform that didn't change too much over the years, therefore folks might be reluctant to see changes to their gear.

5 weeks 5 days ago	I have the unscientific	I have the unscientific impression that we were the people's champion this year for a couple reasons: 1) our team was entertaining due to its offesively-oriented play, 2) we had recognizable names - the POY, McGary, NBA legacies, 3) the "M" brand is recognizable to average fans, and 4) most pundits seemed to agree yesterday that we were the victim of unskilled officiating. Unfortunately for Louisville, the viewing public appeared to tire of the Kevin Ware story and I don't feel a lot of love - respect, maybe - for Rick Pitino or any of their anonymous players. On the other hand, I'm expecting a new anti-Fab 5 backlash any moment now.  If it hasn't already occured.
