If you have trouble getting a spot at the “downtown” bars (my guess is Reilly’s and coaches will be packed, same for Georgia St. / S Meridian bars) you can slide up to Mass Ave (0.75 mile NE from downtown) and shouldn’t have trouble finding a spot for 4.

By the time the Colts started shifting into this formation I knew nothing good would come of it, but I was already numb. FML, but man, Go Blue - I'm excited about this team!
once you hit the 16-20 range, you need to split into 4 pods, with 2 pods forming a division on an annually rotating basis. Could be done with 14 teams and the experience would be much better imo. you would play every team in the conference 2 times in a 4-5 year period at a minimum.

I know a former minor league hitting coach, and he and his manager had a creative way to argue balls and strikes with the umpire. Instead of arguing after the ump made his call (directly arguing balls and strikes), they would ask where the ump saw the ball:
UMP: Strike!
MGR: Where'd you have that, Ump?
UMP: A little inside.
MGR: Aw, that's horseshit. Even I could see that from here.
UMP: Don't argue balls and strikes with me.
MGR: I'm not. I'm just telling you that wasn't inside.
By doing this he wasn't arguing whether it was a ball or strike, just where the ump said he saw the ball cross over the plate. Just a semantic difference, I know, but it worked pretty well for them.
Also, when the hitting coach was a player, he drew a line on an Ump in the dirt a full six inches off the plate for what he thought was a bad call. He encountered that ump several times afterwards, and each time he'd head up for his at bat, the ump would say: "You better start swinging, because these are all going to be strikes." Ump never called another ball for him.
Lesson: Umps are dicks. Don't argue balls and strikes.
If you start allowing players and managers to argue balls and strikes you'll see a lot less baseball. Games would take twice as long to play if managers, hitters and pitchers all got to say their piece after every throw to the plate. It's a "rule" intended to ensure a bit of decorum and to keep the game moving.
Imagine if head football coaches were allowed to challenge every play on whether or not any penalty was committed and got to have a discussion with the ref about it. Would that be fun to watch?
Setting aside the way other sports are officiated, the perceived American bullshittedness of this occurrence and what you think "should" be acceptable, any pro player or manager will tell you that when you argue balls and strikes you're at risk of being thrown out of the game.

For better or worse (put me in the "worse" column), college sports are a zero sum game, unlike most professional sports that have salary caps and inverse draft order based on performance to help level the playing field and maintain some semblance of a competitive balance. There are a limited number of blue chip recruits and WE MUST HAZ ALL TEH REECRUUTZ!!
When looking at potential schools as a recruit, knowing you'll be spending north of 30 hours a week in the athletic facilities, would you rather those facilities be shiny, new and full of flatscreens? Or would you rather spend the majority of your time in a building that's old, dingy, probably has some asbestos, and have multi-media carts that get hauled into the filmroom because they're shared with the basketball team?
More money builds better facilities. Better facilities attract better recruits. Better recruits play better. Better players win more games. More wins brings more money and better recruits.

First, I don't see 4 superconferences as an inevitability. I imagine the playoff bracket will grow to 8 the next time around which leaves room for 5 conf champs and 3 at large bids. Plus, I don't think the ACC is at any real risk of breaking apart here. Maryland's athletic department was woefully mismanaged which brought about this move. Unless the B1G starts picking off UVA and/or UNC, I'm not sure that any more teams will leave. They've got a $50M buyout, plus the difference in payout between the ACC and B12 is roughly $3M. That takes several years to get an ROI.
Another reason is I can't see the Pac taking any of those teams. BSU and BYU are the only ones that are close geographically, and there isn't the academic fit there. I think Stanford and Cal would leave the PAC before voting either of those schools in. If the PAC expands, I think they're taking Texas and a few other B12 schools. And at that point we're looking at picking apart the B12 and the list looks very different.
Yes. Because so many B1G alums live in the DC and NY area, when their schools come to play Maryland and Rutgers, you can expect that Maryland and Rutgers' attendance and season ticket sales will rise accordingly.
I think adding Maryland means the BTN is a lock for basic tier status in Maryland and the DC area. I think adding Rutgers means the BTN is likely going to get basic tier status in NJ. When you add UM, OSU, RU, PSU, NW, etc all together, and have them playing in the shadow of NYC, then I think basic teir status in NY becomes possible, but I don't think even that is necessary for this to be a net positive move for the B1G, financially speaking.
These are the only teams on that list with AAU membership (+ ND, because they would get a pass), so this is what you're looking at as possible membership, if you expect the B1G Chancellors & Presidents vote to invite a school into the B1G.
Right, but those estimates are without considering basic tier rights in the Baltimore/DC (holy lock) NJ (lock) and NY(we'll see) markets. So these teams are adding considerable value. #'s 15 & 16? I'm not so sure. But if you're bringing in the markets in VA and NC, my guess would be that there's a net positive there as well. And the populations of those states are growing.
The reason MSC is not doing that is because the B1G is different than most other conferences in that all of the graduate programs accross the conference collaborate and share resources between the departments of each institution. The ACC does this to a degree, but no other major conference does. It's one of the things that makes the B1G a special snowflake in the barren post-apocalyptic wasteland that is the remains of conference realignment. So not only does the addtion of Maryland, a large flagship research institution deliver another TV market (or markets), but it incrementally adds to the resources of the research side of the institution. This is one of the reasons (if not the reason) that B1G membership is so coveted. Not only do you get a pile o' cash for your sports programs, which makes your alums very happy and willing to donate more money, but your faculty and graduate programs now have more resources to pool from, creating more opportunity for increased prestige through discovery.
As much as I despise ND and their self-proclaimed Irish Exceptionalism, it appears more and more that this is a real thing, and that there will always be a place at the table for ND.
I don't think we're too far off from seeing the power conferences (whichever combination of B1G, SEC, PAC, ACC/B12 are remaining at the end of this) break off from the FBS "mid-majors" of Big East, C-USA, Sun Belt, MAC and MWC. There's clearly a gap in competitiveness, both on the field and financially, and those smaller schools would benefit from not having to compete (and lose - again, academically and financially) against major college programs.
This is a good thing in my opinion. Goodbye MACrifice, goodbye Appy State, hello 8 team playoff for the 60 or so teams left in the Major Tier of CFB with autobids for the 4/5 conference champs and 3/4 at-large bids. Please play at college campuses, please please please.
