"Jim's a tough guy and you can see his personality is all over this football team," Fitzgerald said.

Maybe not one of the "best" but certainly nostalgic for those of us who watched Michigan Replay in the 80s.

MGrowOld appears to be channeling The Knowledge and reporting on the future from the future.

I'm still adjusting to kickoffs at times other than 1:00.

I too am in the crowd who took Navarre to task for the team's performance. After being a student during Leach's career and the success of the following years I innocently thought that during the Navarre years I was seeing the low point of Michigan football. One thing I recall as standing out about Navarre was how many of his passes were batted down at the line. Maybe I was just not very observant , but I didn't recall seeing this much, if ever, before and Navarre had what seemed like a couple/few every game.

In the later 70s, there was also the "Shit Band." A small group of band members would go from section to section wearing their foul weather gear on even the sunniest days. They would play a few notes in the direction of a part of the student section who would respond in unison with a resounding "SHIT"! Da Da, Da Da, Da DA! . . . SHIT! This would go back and forth three or four times and the band would move on to another section. As noted above, there was much drinking, smoking and everything else going on in the student section at the time, but I really do think this happened.

There were games scheduled but Alabama backed out.

I had season basketball tickets in the late 80s and early 90s. The drama of changing head coaches just before the tournament followed by a national championship was one for the record books. Bo giving pep talks to the team during the tournament and Rumeal's clutch free throws won it all for us.
That said, Denard.

Maybe the traditional is not so much orange as it is a mustard yellow. Regardless, certainly not neon.

|13 weeks 1 day ago||I disagr . . . no . . . wait . . . agree!||
As a relative old timer I was going to comment about the regular season being nothing more than to seed the teams playing for a national championship. I understand that in today's sports world this has become the norm; however, I pine for the days when the Big Ten Championship was actually a thing and the focus of the season. So much so that I recall referring to non-conference games as the preseason.
Then I read your second paragraph and agree completely. There will be plenty of debate every year but the bowl games will be special (if less lucrative, which means not happening).
Finally, if something like the above ever happens I would be a big fan of our division and it could be called something more creative than East 3, perhaps the Big Ten of old. And, swap Iowa State for Notre Dame just to piss them off.

You mean to tell me Michigan recruited one of the best classes in college basketball history without Nike or Adidas or Under Amour??!!

"Caleb Joshua Halley, who served as Chief Osceola from 2004-07 and graduated from the university in 2009."
Not to mention he was 34 at the time of the incident and probably didn't get the Chief O gig his freshman year.

If I may be allowed to pick an event not on the list, watching my daughter graduate from Michigan on Saturday. (Derby if that falls through)

If my feeble mind isn't totally failing me, I think they were separate storefronts at the time with the Delta on the corner and the arcade next door.

Detroit has a resident income tax as well as one for people who work in the city. I believe its 2.5% for residents and half that for non-residents who work there.

My daughter is a freshman living in Bursley and they were ordered to the basement a while ago and still there. Although now there is a flood warning.

They do more than "act" like criminals. Ghoulston's only problem today is that he forgot he wasn't wearing a facemask and could be identified.

For purely personal reasons. It was my sophomore year and had lots of high school friends from MSU visit for the game. Needless to say, I didn't get sober until Sunday night after they finally left.

As an 81 grad, alcohol was definately allowed in the late 70s and early 80s. As noted elsewhere here, when we ran out, one of our group would leave at halftime and return with a grocery bag full of booze (yes, one could also leave the stadium and return). As the 80s went on, things changed. I recall one big change being a prohibition on glass so we had to premix drinks in plastic containers (e.g. vodka in an plastic orange juice bottle). I'm not sure when the alcohol ban went into effect but maybe right around 1989.

I am proud of most everything the University of Michigan stands for and, on Friday, was especially proud of my oldest daughter as I helped her move into her Ann Arbor dorm as she starts her freshman year!! (On a weird note, she is living on the same hall I did my sophomore year)
