Risk Day 45 - We're ALMOST At 1,400! We're SO Damn Close! (Also, OSU Is Back In The West And Georgia Tech Is Getting Beaten Up)

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on May 6th, 2020 at 11:35 AM

We were SO close to hitting the 1,400 mark last night. We had 1,390 players last night, which is fantastic, but I KNOW there are 10 Michigan fans out there who can get us to a nice even 1,400. Maybe 1,500 is too ambitious to conquer in the next week, but 1,400 is eminently doable.

And that brings us to WHY we need so many players. We're doing well as a team, and we ended last night with the most territories. However, we still have very few protected territories and we're still battling the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most powerful teams in the game (though Nebraska is getting up there in power). Additionally, Ohio State has made consistent progress up through the northeast, through Alaska, and now they've retaken Washington in the west.

While we can't directly fight them in the west (our friends from Nebraska control all of the surrounding territories right now), we can push to retake Alaska, which -- if Nebraska manages to take Washington and defend WSU and OSU -- would knock Ohio State back a few steps in their effort to harass our western stronghold. We also can push OSU back out of Buffalo and Penn State.

Speaking of enemies, Georgia Tech has learned the hard way that aligning with the Evil Empire is generally not a winning strategy (unless your goal is for the Buckeyes to win). We have made further progress through the Carolinas, we have made our way further up the Florida peninsula, and Texas has all but taken Georgia. In other words, Georgia Tech's formidable presence in the southeast has been torn up a good bit. We can't let up there, but it isn't looking good for GT at the moment.

Anyway, with all that said, LET'S GET TO 1,400. Seriously, we're just TEN players away! I'm going to recruit another friend today. If just a few of you follow my lead, we're there! And then we can aim for 1,500 and confirm that we're way too into this game. Given that there are literally no sports happening right now (unless you count Korean baseball, as my best friend pointed out last night), I'm very much OK with that reputation.

I think a great way to finish the game is with a Michigan victory after we sweep down along Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, through New York and Pennsylvania, into Ohio and back up into Michigan, retaking Ann Arbor and Columbus in the process.

So... speaking of allies and enemies.

I'm no expert, or master strategist here, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but a minor detail has caught my eye, and I thought it maybe might be kinda slightly worth pointing out.

Before we allied with Nebraska we had 9 more territories, and now nebraska has those territories, and has yielded 2 to ohio state.

Can somebody explain to me what exactly an ally is, or how it helps us to yield 9 territories to one of the weakest teams in the game? Don't we have a better chance at defending crucial territories?

Again, I'm no expert here, just curious.

Nebraska was being courted by OSU when they entered an alliance with us instead. If you're unhappy with the current board, let us know how happy you think you'd be if we were in full conflict against OSU, Wisconsin, Ga. Tech, T A+M and Nebraska. If Texas had been our only ally they would probably be out of the game by now. Maybe Alabama would be our saviors.

Might be too late in the day for this to get seen.

But the first thing here is that the first picture is something that was never supposed to happen. We reached that map because Stanford was playing as Michigan and attacking Nebraska to try to mess with our alliance.

The general terms of our alliance were to always have the Boise St territory and anything East of that as Nebraska's domain while Michigan kept California and Nevada. The PNW (Oregon, Oregon St, Washington, Washington St) we wanted to make sure both teams had a presence in so we could both help defend against Ohio state when they would inevitably get to Alaska and threaten Washington. Because of rogues and just RNG, we have been booted out of the PNW and that definitely wasn't the plan, but it also wasn't the plan for us to monopolize it either.

Regarding the two Nevada territories (and Oregon), we are okay with Nebraska temporarily having those territories so they can help supplement any of our defenses and attacks against Georgia Tech in the west coast.

When the first thing I look for on MGoBlog is today's Risk assignment you have either done a great job promoting this or it is a sad reflection on lack of Michigan sports news unrelated to the virus.  Probably a combination of both.

Guys, we're having an issue with alt accounts. Apparently we had ONE HUNDRED such accounts last turn.

This is not only a bad look for us, but it's counterproductive. The system is designed to detect multiple accounts by the same person and zero out their power if it gets to the level of abuse. Additionally, it screws up our assignment system because we think we have that power in the assigned territory, but we don't.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but don't create multiple accounts for this game. It's a waste of time and poor sportsmanship.

Like I mentioned in other threads, a big group of my friends got me into playing this, and now I have my family and other friends joining too, and some of them said yesterday or two days ago that when they went to MichiganCFBRisk to get an order it said "Blacklisted for non-compliance or being flagged for alternate creation"...We just told them to double up on some of our orders. After reading this I wanted to make sure we weren't getting our accounts flagged for this. I know some of them used burner email accounts to create their reddit accounts because they didn't want spam so I'm guessing that could be the issue. Thanks

The only way your friends got blacklisted is if they didn't follow the orders they were given or if they got caught in the alt filter.

If it's the latter one honest explanation is that a lot of your friends/family are playing from the same house, so it's possible they'd get flagged as one person playing on multiple accounts (upwards of 5-6) from the same network. If this sounds like it could be the case then let us know.

Okay, I messaged our big group and two families replied. One household said they have always followed their orders but they are using the same laptop and now just MichiganCFBRisk isn’t working for them.

The other said that today (for the first time) their stars were all hollow and they are using a cell phone. I also know this family used the same email that our group used as a burner. So this looks like the only issue where they have been cancelled. Please let us know because that will be a decent amount of power that our team will lose and they aren’t cheating at all

Gotta say...on the second or third to last day we should definitely attack Nebraska if we don’t have a huge lead.

Im sure his is not what Michigan Cfb Risk assignments are going to do, and I’ll do my assignment. But that’s what I would do.

I’ve done my lowly 1 star part. Quick question, at what point does it become every team for themselves. Given there is a known end date, won’t the last couple turns just be pure chaos with teams trying to target the easiest paths to territory acquisition — meaning target your friendly neighbors vs the hostile ones?

I carried out a sneak guerrilla attack in the pre-dawn hours today.  Can I PULL-EEZE have another assignment??

I'm a 4 star and have 1 MVP. No clue what I'm doing, I just try to sign in every day and do whatever the bot says. The strategy is better left to whoever is actually trying I guess. Go Blue.

It really is just RNG.  I have been playing since the first round (75+ total turns), and I picked up my 3rd MVP the other night!!!

Just random luck.  I got my 4th start today!!!   I feel really empowered now.....

But I did get booted from Discord (vetted and then removed).  Not worried about it now with only 4 days left, but it was odd....
