Absolutely every coach should have this installed. We literally call it a "Now" route. If corners are going to play 8 yards off we'll chuck it out and worst case scenario is 3-4 yards. Typically the WR will take a hard step or two forward to get the CB to back pedal so he can't jump the route and then come back and look for the ball
There's a few things you can do with man coverage: change who's defending certain players, adjust safety help, re-route players/jam at the LOS to disrupt timing
Actually logged in for the first time in a while to post here. You're totally right about flexbone teams - they're going to get their yardage.
I actually coach a pure flexbone/triple option high school team in Chicago. So if anyone has any direct questions about the scheme I'm happy to answer them.

A lot of play calling comes down to an if/then - as in if they do X, then I'm going to do Y. Scripting the first 15 plays allows you to see how the defense/individual players react to different things (formations, motions, personnel, pulls, veer paths).
Once the defense shows how they're going to react to those things you can call the game accordingly.
As to why they seem to work against Michigan.... hard to say. For example, NW must have seen something on film to make them want to throw all the quick slants. Once we adjusted they had no answer. Their coaches had a great opening game plan but weren't able to adjust based on our adjustment
EDIT: Scripted plays aren't always made to gain yards, their more to gain valuable information
As one of the high school coaches currently here, it's been a pretty incredible thing to see how many coaches from so many different places show up. Posting this on the coaches bus back up to Baits II
Although the scene after the Final 4 victory against SYR where three stories of bright orange cushions rained down was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.
I had the chance to sit next to Terry Mills last night for a good chunk of time. Really down to earth guy who was just as excited as the rest of us to see this team succeed. /CoolStoryBro
Completely Unrelated to DG to WR: I just saw your avatar and wanted you to know that I'm actually sitting in the Valpo Union right now. Far too many ND fans.

These are largely based on the men they are named after and the money they invest in the programs - Sam Walton (Walmart) and John Tyson (Tyson Chicken)
UCLA: A- slightly cramped, but being able to wear shorts and a t-shirt in January is awesome. Much more hilly than I expected
Illinois: B+, love greek row and their bar scene. They also have white castle inside their stadium
Wisco: B+, not the biggest fan of urban campuses, but Madison is a pretty fun place
Iowa: B, Girls were surprisingly good looking
Purdue: C, fairly average. Enjoyed the trains giving tours while I was there
Michigan State: C-, too spread out.
Northwestern: C-, based mostly on their athletic facilities.
Arkansas: D-, built into the side of a huge hill. Only one work out facility for the entire campus. Architecture is vomit inducing. Residence halls look like they were built in the 70's. The entire campus also smells like its deep fried.
I liked how they ended it on the positive of the current situation under June Jones. As someone who wasn't alive at the time, it makes them a feel-good story.

So excited to be back. Logged in just to throw my support behind this.
Also, let's be real - while quarantined there's not much else going on. What better way to spend it than beating our rivals in something?

Anyone know what App those plays are created on? My fault if I've missed it in the past.
