Just announced on Twitter and in a paywalled article with his reasons.

Long is going to be a fantastic DB.

He is also a very thoughtful young man, based on his responses in interviews.  I just watched one the other day where Brandon Brown interviewed him, and I couldn't believe how well spoken he was.

Here's hoping Wilfong is right!

I like it because it would mean Michigan is getting a top-100 recruit, but also because the Washington paysite writers have been astonishing in their arrogance covering Long's recruitment. They have repeated for weeks with full throats that Long was a stone-cold lock to Washington. So I am eager to see how they scramble.

Long would be awesome. From the start, he has been the No. 1 target at DB for this recruiting class. Michigan is hitting on a lot of the guys they want if he comes along with Gary.

If there is in fact some grayshirt commitments (as implied by numerous sources), then technically yes... I really don't think any experts have any clue as to how many more guys Harbaugh is actually looking to add in the class because of the whole grayshirt/attrition issue. We know 27 is the number, but who knows what makes up that number in actuality.

As I understand it, a grayshirt comes in for one year w/o a scholarship with the understanding that they'll be put on scholarship the next year.  A couple of questions about this.  Is it a guarnteed that they got the scholarship later on?  Why would a school want to do this as it detracts from the numbers available next year.  Is it because they offered a scholarship and it is a middle ground between being part of the class and being told to take a walk?

Definitely positive news, but with an official to Washington still on the books, I'm trying to temper my excitement until he commits publicly.
