Well...to be objectively fair...Alabama and Clemson are two right off the bat.  Take the "douche bag" factor away (I don't know if you can anymore) and you could add Ohio State right there as well.  I know...objectivity can be a buzzkill.

+1 Absolutely.

Doesn't mean I'm never going to scratch my head at a decision here or there.  Hell, I do that with my wife and I lover her.

I couldn't be happier.  I want no other coach than him. I remember his introductory presser like it was yesterday.

Clemson was in a significantly worse spot though, and was almost 20 years past being relevant as a nationally relevant program. I think Clemson proved the virtue of being patient instead of overreacting.

Don't think Dabo's act would play outside the southeast, don't think Saban's deal would work at a school that wasn't 100% invested in devoting their entire athletic budget to football either.

I'm not saying you're an insane person, but I think choosing Urban over Harbaugh is like choosing Lou Holtz over Bo. Holtz might have gotten the big one Bo never got, but he also left every school he ever coached at a smoldering crater.

The only job Urban's ever left better off than he found it was Utah, and they happened to luck into having a Mormon guy on staff who wanted to stay in SLC who turned out to be a great coach. Give me Harbaugh who builds a place into something better than it was than Urban. Urban's like a guy who flips houses and gets out of town after the closing 3 months before all the crowns start falling off and the doorknobs start coming off in your hand.

I never said I would take anyone over Harbaugh...that wasn't the question.  The question is who has a better football coach than us.  The objective answer to that is at least 3 teams have a better coach than us.  1. Alabama 2. Clemson 3. Ohio State.

When its all said and done, I hope Harbaugh's Legacy eclipses Bo's and Lloyd's.  But at the moment, we still haven't done anything truly special yet.  Yes, beating Wisconsin and MSU are solid wins, but Harbaugh has yet to deliver us that "Special" win.  A "stake in the ground" "turning point" win.  Beat OSU= Special...Big Ten Title= Special....Playoff appearance= Special

Lakeyale13 is at least consistent. He's been a Harbaugh critic for a long time. Any true Michigan fan, of course, is grateful beyond words that Harbaugh is our coach. Then there are all the whiny bitches like Lakeyake13 that can only see the glass half-empty all the time.

Lakeyale13

That is the funny thing...I don't see things as "Glass half empty or Glass half full"...I see things as "There is exactly this much water in the glass".  I don't choose to put on delusional fan boy glasses like you.

Happy Harbaugh is our Coach.  But if you think that Harbaugh getting paid $8 million a year to be the 3rd best team in the Big 10 is  acceptable than more power to you.

LOL.  I have ZERO football knowledge.  That is the point.  The point is that someone needs zero football knowledge to know that Jim Harbaugh is not the best coach in college football.  He is the best coach for Michigan, I totally agree with that.  But there are several coaches who are objectively better than Harbaugh.  Can Harbaugh change that narrative?  Yes.  Does that mean actually beating Ohio State and winning a Big Ten Championship?  Yes.  I hope and pray that this is the year!

Jim Harbaugh makes $5 million per year, plus an interest-free loan of $2 million per year for 5 years.  Michigan gets their $10 million per year back, without interest.  A loan is not a salary. Only the interest counts as compensation, and the interest on $2 million/year is not $3 million.

Dunno why people jump on these falsehoods to make their point.

Well, he did beat ranked Wisconsin in humiliating fashion the week before, so it's not just "one win."

Anyway, did MSU apologize for beating us last year 14-10 without our best QB and WR? And it's not like MSU only lost a bunch of players right before the game or something. They were dealing with these injuries all year. They did enough with the exact same team to beat PSU on the road. Harbaugh doesn't owe you or anyone else apologies for MSU having shitty depth and not game-planning better.

You mean without our best WR, Best QB, 2nd best QB, best OT...etc

Injuries are just a fucking excuse, and everyone should be PROUD of Harbaugh for getting to 8-5 without all posted above (and more) and yet NEVER used the injury card like Izzo and Dantonio constantly do.  He took verbal abuse like a man and ate it.

He should get soooo much more credit from some of these shitty ass Michigan fans that constantly bash him and his decisions during games that we end up blowing out our opponents.

Step 1

Cut each squirrel into 8 pieces. Brown squirrel in lard in a stock pot until lightly browned. Remove from stock pot; drain well on paper towels. Add onion to stock pot; sauté until tender. Add squirrel, tomatoes, lima beans, corn, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; stir well. Cover and bring to a boil.

Step 2

Add a small amount of hot liquid to flour, stirring to make a paste. Add to stew in stock pot, stirring until blended. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 hour or until squirrel is tender.

Nobody!  Though you wouldn't have guessed this was the prevailing sentiment against ND and the first half of NU.

NOBODY!

When someone at work questioned Harbaugh's tenure after the ND I responded by shitting all over that comment. There's his love for Michigan and for winning. And more, the love for his players. He arranged funding to take them on overseas trips every year. Not because it will help them win the Big Ten. Because by exposing them to more of the world, they might become better men beyond the field. What football coach thinks that way? One that I know of. I never doubted him.

I love that man.

Harbaugh loves family and he loves football and the culture of this program now and going forward will always be imbued with these values to its core. His players love him and his coaches love him and any fan with half a brain can see that he is the perfect fit as HC at Michigan.

There may be other guys who can out X-O him but none who can handle the multiple factors demanded by the university and its football tradition. And I think more big wins and championships are going to come, too.

"There may be other guys who can out X-O him"

No, there aren't. Harbaugh made painfully mediocre Wilton look like an NFL prospect. He also schemed a masterpiece against OSU last year. He can't make players make plays.

Is he perfect? No, he probably should have fired Drevno rather than bringing in a second OL coach to cover for him. He also should have had a dedicated WR coach last year, for a bunch of freshmen players.

Yeah, I agree. This isn't Hoke, or Cajun Hoke, or James Franklin, or Les Miles--rah rah guys who need to bring in great assistants to run things. This offense is Harbaugh's vision and he brings in guys he wants implement that vision. Again, he was running pistol sets in SF to take advantage of Kapernick's wheels and ability to throw on the run.

Yossarian, I totally agree with your main point that Harbaugh is the best Coach for Michigan.  Period end of story.

What I don't agree with (and many Michigan fans seem to share your position) is your first paragraph.  It holds little logic.  For example, Brady Hoke also loves family, football and the culture of the program and imbued the values to its core.  He loved the Univ and would have coached for free.  Hoke was a good ambassador for the University.  So magically, once Hoke loses, those things don't matter anymore?  Why aren't you crying for the injustice of Hoke not being our Coach currently.

Harbaugh was hired for one reason and one reason alone...stop fooling yourself with all the other "being a good ambassador stuff"...and that is to beat MSU, OSU and win Big Ten titles and get int he National Playoffs.  Is it great that he is a family man and all of those other attributes?  Sure!  That is awesome.  But like Hoke, if he cannot get us to be the top 1-2 teams in the Big Ten on a consistent basis he will get replaced just like Hoke was.

Lakeyale13

October 23rd, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^

Clarence, per your logic, why was Brady Hoke fired?  Brady Hoke LOVED Coaching Michigan.  He bled Maize and Blue.  He was a great family man and a person of great character.  He would have coached Michigan for free.  No one loved Michigan more than him...maybe just as much...but I doubt more.

So, per your logic, why isn't he still the Coach of Michigan?  Oh...so you and others really do care about wins and losses.  It isn't all about loving Michigan and being a great ambassador and a great family man.

Hoke got fired because he couldn't beat our rivals and couldn't get out program to where the Athletic Department thinks it should be...which is winning Big Ten Titles and being in the Playoff Picture (as it should be!).

I am really, really curious to see if Harbaugh takes this as an opportunity to mentally and metaphorically separate the program from what has gone on before.  A win like this is a huge, huge opportunity to mentally reframe what the team can accomplish.  I'm really looking forward to seeing whether the team takes a collective step forward.

He definitely looks like he is having fun, and he has the player's backs so.....  What more could you really ask for?  Fan's expectations are high every season, and we look to be improving.  Really hoping to see a W against OSU this year though, so not gonna get too high just yet.  Its been a fun season thus far.
