Who’s ready to play Florida again in a meaningless bowl game?

Submitted by buckeyekiller1 on November 30th, 2019 at 8:54 PM

Ok, kidding. I’d rather poke my eyes out with rusty nails than watch us play them again.

I see so many hot takes posted on the board about *Fire Harbaugh, Fire Brown, Fire Everyone directly into the center of the sun and I wanted to try to bring some perspective to the board. The offensive gameplan was great and good enough to put up 40+ points on the board minus the 10 drops from our supposed great WRs.

Our defense was outclassed on every level today, but most especially on the DL. We need some dominance and depth there quickly. If not, the beatings to the Buckeyes will continue. I hate losing to OSU as much as everyone else, but to act like we’re just going to get Dabo or Saban to come here is asinine. Harbaugh is the very best coach we can ask for at UM. We need a deep DL like we had in ‘16 and these games will start to turn.

My question is simply this: for those of you saying *Fire Harbaugh, or don’t extend Harbaughs contract who do you *realistically* think we can get to replace him?

I'm biased but a SoCal bowl is 100x better than a Florida bowl.  You don't want to be in the flatlands of Florida again.  Bad bowls there...

That's ridiculous.  All California bowls suck outside of the Rose Bowl....and Michigan's not going there.  The best matchup will be against a middle of the road PAC 12 team well before the New Year when the best games are played.

If you rank bowls, CA probably has the best (Rose), but then Florida has 2,3 and 4 with Orange, Citrus and Outback.  The Holiday Bowl is probably a toss up with the Gator Bowl in terms of prestige.  When you kick in the idea that 90% of Michigan fans live 2000 miles closer to Florida than they do to California, the choice is pretty obvious.

Hinton was the only DL I actually saw shed a block and get penetration today. But that’s mostly my point. Fields had all day to throw and Dobbins wasn’t touched or forced to cutback until the second level. That’s not going to get it done against OSU. The truly elite teams all produce regular first rounders on the DL. Clemson, Bama, and OSU are constantly in the playoff for a reason and it starts up front.

I would like Brent Venables for two reasons.  One, it shows faith in the Gattis speed in space by going with a defensive minded HC.  Second, it shows the willingness to run a dirty program, because we all saw Chad Morris exposed as a fraud when he didn't have the bagmen network.  One would think Venables noticed that and would ask the appropriate questions before taking a job.

I'm trying to figure out how these jump start bars even stay open

With the lowly play of the players that cant  play ... coached by millionaires.  Free tickets for all

Okay.  First, I hope we don't because that spells another loss.  The players wont be motivated and Harbaugh certainly isn't capable of motivating them.

Second, Kyle Whittingham, Matt Rhule and possibly 2 or 3 others would come here.  Heck , right now PJ Fleck is a better coach.  At least his guys are playing for a divisional title.

Matt Rhule would come here or maybe we get steve Sarkisian from Bama.  He can build an offense for sure.

One thing is, we need a new DC, Brown can't beat a team that can run and throw.  The worst thing is Harbaugh wont fire him or Jay Harbaugh despite the FACT that our running game sucks and has all year.

I highly doubt that a 60-year old longtime Utah resident and practicing Mormon (Whittingham) is leaving that job after 15 years to come to Michigan.

Fleck's team just got destroyed at home in a rivalry game today (sound familiar?).  He's turned around some programs but we don't have evidence that he'd be an upgrade over Harbaugh, who has one of the 10 best records in the country since 2015.

Rhule shows promise but I think he's waiting out Franklin at PSU.

Actually upgrading over Jim is really hard.  The easier thing is for him to hire elite assistants.

Give us a reason why Brown shouldn't be fired??.....you can't because there isn't one.  Losing to OSU like that two years in a row SHOULD get everyone fired.  But because we're more concerned with having a squeaky clean program and holding on to old traditions that no one outside of the fanbase gives a shit about, I stead of living and dying 24/7 about one thing - beating OSU.  If we can beat OSU, the rest would take care of itself.

Winning means.more to OSU, like it does in the SEC.  Michigan arrogance and weak recruiting and player development are holding this program back.

Michigan isn’t going to sell it’s soul to win football games. Nor should it. The University of Michigan exists for higher purposes.

Football doesn’t matter. It’s entertainment. It doesn’t feed, house, educate  or otherwise improve the lives  people. It is a distraction.

People on here seem to forget what really matters in life. It ain’t football.

90% of the these fucking posters are straight out idiots. Harbaugh didn't lose this game and we're lucky to have him. We're also very fortunate to have Don Brown. We lost this game because our defensive line was manhandled, we turned the ball over, made stupid penalties (K. Hudson) and we dropped passes.

OSU played a perfect game and we didn't. I think the game plan was solid but the execution was not.

We definitely have a talent disparity between us and OSU but frankly, so does everyone else, minus Alabama and Clemson.

I see a lot of these types of posts "the coaches aren't making the mistakes".  At what point does leadership matter? When you see a program continue to crumble when the spotlight is on it most certainly is on the coaches.  The names on the back of the jerseys change but the results do not.  Training, motivation, accountability, recruiting...these are all the jobs of coaches (to name a few) and they all have a direct impact on results.

For the record, I don't want Jim Harbaugh to leave.  I want him to take a hard look (another) in the mirror and figure out what needs to be done to turn his Michigan tenure from a footnote into a statue being installed by Bo's.

Five years is a fair bit of time.  The clock is ticking.

Since  bowl selections after conference champs are by number of pick rather than position finished, don't count M v Bama out as an opponent in a SEC bowl game now.

If they don’t fire him, they have to extend him. He can’t realistically recruit with two years left on a contract. That would be asinine. It’s decision time.

I assume he’ll be extended after whatever bowl game UM goes to. Although there may be some scenario (a bowl blowout? NFL offer?) that ends his tenure. It won’t be until after the bowl, whatever happens, but the extend/end is coming.

I only hope its a cupcake. Any team with a pulse and decides to play hard will probably run this team off the field.
