When is Ohio State's Year of Failure Coming?

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
Well not going to lie here, I'm pissed. I can't stand seeing Buckeye fans cheerful and shouting while yelling that fucking annoying four letter word. Anyways bottom line Oregon played like shit and Osu didn't. Ohio State came to play and that was clear from their first drive to take the lead 7-0. God every year my hatred for them just grows and grows. Why can't we beat these sons of bitches! I mean it's one football game a year we get to play them and we can't do it? I don't understand it, just once I'd love to see them fall as we have. They've had too good for too long. When is their collapse coming? I want to beat these bastards so much this year.

I don't think as long as Tressel is there. Even though he is criticized for being too "safe", he still is a very good coach and can open up the offense enough to keep them in these types of games.

My best hope is that they commit such an egregious violation of NCAA rules that it can't be swept under the rug. They are probably the second-dirtiest program in the game next to USC, so it's not like there isn't a "smoking gun" somewhere. The bottom line, though, is that RR is going to have to build UM to a point where it doesn't matter how good OSU is. It would be nice to smugly know that it doesn't matter what OSU does.

I think it seems so long just because were watching it present time. There have been decades where we dominated just as much or more. I think the problem right now is just getting back to the point where we're one of the top 2 powers in the big ten. beating osu will come w/ that

They were 4-6-1 in 1988, with only two Big Ten wins against Minnesota and Indiana (both pretty awful that year). The funny thing, though, is that they beat two bowl teams in non-conference games (Pitt and LSU), tied an Iowa team that snuck into a bowl game and nearly beat us. In 1966, they were 4-5 without a win over a team with a winning record.

They were 4-6-1. As for when next? Don't hold your breath. Stop expecting them to falter; start demanding we reach that level. You want them to start declining? Have them lose to their rival regularly and make recruits want to come here and win in The Game.

We've been on top before and we will be again. Go Blue! Also, who gives a shit what they do against anybody else? Though I shed no tears when the Buckeyes lose, I pretty much want them to beat everybody else so that the taste of their blood and tears is that much sweeter when the Blue crush them.

As happens so often on this blog, I go into a post with a thought to write down and someone has already covered it. There was a time when Buckeye fans wondered when they would ever get back to competing with Michigan on a regular basis, just as we do now. Just like that time period fostered OSU's hate for Michigan and their desire to improve, so this time fosters change and burning desire in us. Take heart in this thought; Michigan is following the current national trend: speed and spread. OSU is content to dominate a currently bad Big Ten conference without adapting enough to compete with the true national powers.

Best Case Scenario: Rejuvenated Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, and possibly Penn State all beat OSU next year. Optimistic, yes, but thats what the off season is for.

And for the Michigan Wolverines the drought is over, they have defeated Ohio State in an upset for the first time in seven years since 2003. It is sweet jubilation for Rich Rodriguez, the Michigan fans and alumni. The wait for Michigan is finally over."

this Thanksgiving. Mostly because THE GAME is being played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year. (I believe the B10 is moving the schedule back a week to lessen the gap between the end of season and the bowl games.) http://michigansportscenter.com/football/2010-michigan-football-schedule (Thanksgiving is the 25th; THE GAME the 27th.)

Probably not in the foreseeable future, specifically the next 2 years when Pryor is there. Next year they have a lot returning outside of Pryor which sucks

Lets take it further...when will UM stop losing in the major sports? Football, basketball, baseball, and hockey teams are all in trouble. I see the other major college teams who are successful and they play with a chip on their shoulder and they come to give you a beat down, not just win the game. When was the last time you could say that about a Michigan team. I dont want to get into a trip down memory lane so please dont post about the 2006 football team. It seems UM hasn't had an "attitude" in a very long, loss filled time.

i know pryor is looking wicked good after tonight but do you think his career will be all that different from tate's? Sometimes i think michigan fans underrate how good the kid is. he was a true freshman this year and for the most part looked like a very legit qb

I think Tate obviously has a chance to be very good, evidenced in particular by the hot start to which he got off. However, he still has major improvements to make (as one might expect from a freshmen). To be specific, Tate really cooled off once teams started containing him in the pocket and forcing him to step up and throw. I'm moderately concerned because I never really saw Tate work the offense from within the pocket, and I think he had trouble reading receivers while the receiver is in his route. Instead, Tate's strength is clearly throwing on the run and often finding receivers during broken plays. So, much like Pryor, I think Tate has some concerns that, if not corrected, could limit his effectiveness. Having said that (-- to borrow a popular phrase around here), Tate was a freshmen and he was hurt for probably the entire second half of the season. Therefore, improvement is certainly possible/likely.

in the pocket. I can't back this up with stats (since there aren't any), but it's my impression that Tate will bail out the moment that he feels heat. That's not terrible, but sometimes a QB needs to step up into the pocket (i.e. move in front of the pressure) rather than bailing immediately. Moreover, I didn't think that Tate delivers a good ball on the timing routes. This past year, he preferred receivers who are already into their break and open. I don't think he trusted himself to put the ball in a spot where the receiver will break to, but instead preferred to wait until the receiver came out of the break. I think this was highlighted by RichRod's sideline comments to Tate during the OSU game that Tate needs to stick to the play that's called, rather than trying to turn every play into a broken one. But, like I said, these are things that are correctable with hard work and experience, so I'm not suggesting Tate is fatally flawed or anything. My original point was merely that, like many freshmen (and Pryor), Tate also has a long way to go before he's a "complete" QB.

Okay, let's get off the ledge dude, tUofOSU's year of failure is *every* year. They fail because of who they are, their pathetic admissions, their comparably limited academic status and their location in the sewer of Ohio. tUofOSU fans exist as the dark, unfortunate, pathetic crew of miscreants that M is compared against. If their teams didn't win periodically there would be no rivalry. Let's not forget the dominance of the late 80's/90's on our side. I haven't.

It's history, this material, but between 75 and 2000 (basically the years I was old enough to more or less begin to obsess about Michigan football) we won 17 games, lost 7, tied 1...against tUofOSU We have lost 6 in a row... 88 to 97 we lost one game and tied one game. I imagine tUofOSU fans felt then as we sometimes do today. Today is their day. We'll be back.

you know, some day, osu's day of reckoning will come. this is inevitable. there will be a day when osu loses to M, when osu misses a bowl game, etc etc. i hope when that day comes, i will not be as pathetic as the M fans on this site who look for any chink in the armor (see: posts comprised of dubious and hasty critiques of osu's defense, posts rejoicing in the various shortcoming of specific osu players, posts celebrating an osu recruiting loss, and so on and so forth.) i hope that my thoughts will turn to the eventual rejuvenation of my own chosen team and not grasp at the straw of my rival's occasional missteps. i hope that i will be able to find joy in whatever successes and hopes my team can provide, and not solely from the pain (real or imagined) that my enemy may be experiencing. i hope. i hope ... oh, and as to the dirtiness of osu's program ... one of the rivals is under ncaa investigation, and one is not. happy new year to you all.

Please don't kid me or yourself that OSU hasn't taken glee at our every failure. I remember App State shirts down there...I don't recall any Florida or LSU shirts around here. And please, if you can't tell the difference between a newspaper in the bag down there, and one trying to create something out of nothing up here, you're showing you're education. If OSU self-reported as diligently as U-M, the Maurice Clarretts and Troy Smith's of the world would have OSU in a lot more trouble. You could tour some of the High school weight rooms built by Ohio State boosters sometime too. The mindset of the fanbase carries the attitude of how and what each school considers violations. Possible practice errors? A big deal. Payoffs for players? Ah, who cares...we'll suspend them for half a game...go away NCAA.

It's just a matter of time. There will be a year or two when they have some injuries and recruits that don't pan out (like we've had) probably when there are some stronger teams in the Big Ten. Remember, pretty much everything is cyclical and it will all come full circle.

Not as long as Tressel has good lines and linebackers. That is his MO and it wins football games. All I concern myself with is when will Michigan be back. We need to get back to not committing errors. From there we can tackle better and dominate the LOS. We need Hutchinson / Baas / Woodley type players.

3-9 and 5-7 back to back, and took butt beatings to the tune of 42-7 they'd burn down High Street. Look. It's cyclical. We'll be back. You didn't think we'd keep up at a 10-2-1 pace forever, did you? Just like this streak will also turn. By the way, that's a pretty good "pissed at the world" rant.

Let's remember, tOSU is really thin at QB--thinner than Michigan and perhaps anyone in the Big Ten. Even if tonight was Pryor's breakout and he becomes the star everyone thought he could be, they are one Dennis Dixon slip away from having a three year minor league cast off called a "scout team workhorse" by tOSU's official website as a starter. Right now, the Buckeye's entire offense is predicated on Pryor being more talented than everyone else, and they will struggle if they aren't able to find solutions after an injury to him. Michigan is digging out of the hole and we will get back. Next year back to a bowl and 2011 we should be a serious team again.

BigBlue16

January 1st, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^

As a young Michigan fan I have no hope in this team, the defense may be worse next year than it was this year without Graham and Warren. Because of this, I expect Rich Rod to be fired by the end of next year and then maybe Michigan can start the climb towards tOSU.

Michigan has started a walk-on QB and a true Freshman QB the last two years. They started 3 walk-ons for a large portion of the year on defense. Next year, I expect them to significantly improve on offense and I expect the defense to take a step forward with another year in the same system and better depth. Don't hate.
