The title definitely fucked me up for a sec
January 1st, 2019 at 2:39 AM ^
It fucked all of us up, because wtf.....
December 31st, 2018 at 10:01 PM ^
Would take him as OC
December 31st, 2018 at 10:04 PM ^
Insane. Our passing game is broken.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:18 PM ^
Since he's a RB coach, he can only call running plays and not know anything about a passing game? That's not how coaching works.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:24 PM ^
You know how else it doesn’t work? You don’t get promoted from RB to OC at Michigan. He’s been looking for an OC gig since before he got here and there’s a reason he hasn’t found one.
Strictly RB coach to OC is a very rare career trajectory. He’d 100% need to prove himself before sniffing the job at michgian.
January 1st, 2019 at 2:26 AM ^
But Jaybaugh can just replace Wheatley without problems?
Youre a hypocrite.
Wheatley landed us the top 8 players in Michigan from 2017.
Dude is one hell of a recruiter and the reason he left was because he disagreed with Harbaugh’s trajectory with the offense.
Looks like he was right!!!!
January 1st, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
He was a great recruiter no doubt and we have not been able to replace that.
And while we knew there were definitely issues between Wheatley & Harbaugh, the feeling I got was it was about Wheatley's pay and his role with the team compared to say Drevno.
Our offense wasn't quite as conservative and vanilla when Wheatley was here so I question your reason for why Wheatley left.
January 1st, 2019 at 7:50 AM ^
I think Jay shouldn’t be here - so no. We should have a real RB coach, not the coaches under qualified kid. I’ve been consistent on this.
January 1st, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
What experience has Tyrone Wheatley had with Michigan, the New York Giants, the Oakland Raiders, the Buffalo Bills, the Jacksonville Jaguars, or anywhere else that would make you think he wants to open up the offense?
January 1st, 2019 at 9:00 AM ^
If this logic held up, Scott Frost wouldn't be where he is right now. He was a GA for two years then got a full-time job as LB coach at Northern Iowa. The next year he became their Co-DC. He then coached WRs at Oregon for 3 years before getting the QB/OC job at Oregon.
When you make a hire, you sit down and talk to the person. If their presentation convinces you that what they want to do is right for your team, then you make the hire.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:17 AM ^
So tell us how Eric Bienemy made the jump for KC? How did Adam Hase do it from Broncos to Bears? The next logical promotion for a RB coach is OC. I don’t get the comment. Plenty of folks in NFL have made and are being considered for such a promotion.
Heck, some LB coaches are being considered for HC jobs.
Ty Wheatley is one of my favs, but his non-promotions have less to do with conventions. He, perhaps, needs to develop as a coach more. Looks like he took the fall for the Sheldon and Fournette meltdowns—which doesn’t bode well for his ability to instill discipline.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:23 AM ^
The last time we promoted a RB coach to OC it was a disaster.
January 1st, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
Funny that people are pissed that Jay had no experience coaching RBs replaced Wheatley and you wanna hire Wheatley, who has zero experience coordinating an offense, to be Michigan’s OC.
Makes sense. This fan base has been full of contradictions for weeks.
January 1st, 2019 at 1:21 AM ^
This fan base has been full of contradictions for weeks.
You mean decades.
January 1st, 2019 at 8:32 AM ^
You mean idiots, not contradictions
January 1st, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Bring him back as running back coach. Won’t happen. Seems like huge rift with Harbaugh
December 31st, 2018 at 10:05 PM ^
Fournette and Yeldon are probably more to blame than Wheatley.
Wheatley was smart to leave Michigan when he did. He seen where the O was headed.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:09 PM ^
He seen that, did he?
December 31st, 2018 at 10:27 PM ^
I seen a guy the other day.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
You gotta guy? I gotta guy if ain’t seen your guy.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:21 PM ^
I remember reading from someone who was close to the program (it may have been big11) none the less there was a rift between Drevno and Fisch/Wheatly and Harbaugh ended up agreeing with Drevno which is why Jedd and Wheatly left.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
Yeah, going from 85th to 25th really sucks. It’s going to be even worse next season when everyone is a junior or senior.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:24 PM ^
RBs got better under Jay honestly.
January 1st, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
Jay had more to work with. Their blocking and blitz pick up went down dramatically under Jay, though it ended up mostly fine this year.
January 1st, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
No one on the offense knew how to handle a blitz last year, not sure I'd put that on Jay.
January 1st, 2019 at 1:33 AM ^
More likely is that he left because he saw his son wasn't going to play much.
Interesting that they both left the team.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:05 PM ^
Quick question, yes I'm a Buckeye fan but have a serious question, a lot of rumblings of Al Washington to Ohio State, is he any good?
December 31st, 2018 at 10:09 PM ^
He's terrible. You guys should definitely not pursue him.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:09 PM ^
just go away....
December 31st, 2018 at 10:10 PM ^
I believe he’s thought of as a good recruiter. And it seems like he can’t be a bad linebacker coach, though I’m just going on the performance of Michigan’s linebackers. I think Washington to OSU would be perceived as a loss in AA, and not just because he’d be joining the Buckeyes.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
Thank you, didn't know who he was so I was curious, thanks for the feedback
December 31st, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
Yes...he's good...but Ohio State should really try and get Pep Hamilton. He's totally awesome!
Happy New Year!

December 31st, 2018 at 10:27 PM ^
Nice english
December 31st, 2018 at 10:33 PM ^
Great player, apparently solid coach at M and a nice recruiter.
Would like
December 31st, 2018 at 10:42 PM ^
Seems strange Day would be interviewing for coaches to replace current coaches in the middle of Rose Bowl prep.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
I'd love to have him back in out fold. He was great recruiter for out team. He seemed to be a serviceable or better coach for out running backs. Enough said.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
Left because he wanted a promotion, didn't want to just be a RB coach. It's hard to see him coming back to do that again. It's also hard to see him displacing Warinner as the run game coordinator.
December 31st, 2018 at 11:17 PM ^
Warinner is not the run game coordinator. He's the just oline coach
January 1st, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
At the time he was a pretty hot commodity. He interviewed for WMU's job. Doesn't seem to have the same leverage at this point. I think it would be more problematic if he viewed his son was treated unfairly. That is just speculation on my end, though.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:49 PM ^
There was some good content (insider and otherwise) in that thread that got deleted.

Too bad a mod nuked it, because I didn’t read it in detail.
Basically that Brown is going to accept the Temple job this week. Harbaugh is seriously considering the jets offer. OSU is after Al Washington.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
What a terrible title
