What is Your Favorite Michigan Bowl Game?
All of us here have seen some pretty spectacular bowl games that Michigan has played in and either won or come close only to fall by just a few. For me I have seen (in my teen years) the Wolverines play in quite a few Rose Bowls sadly to fall to both USC and Texas in 2005 which in my opinion is one of the greatest Rose Bowl games I've ever seen despite the loss. I was only 8 in 1997 but so my memories of the Rose Bowl game between Michigan and Wash St is still embeded in my brain and always will be. I consider that game to be part of my childhood but for me the greatest bowl win in my memory was the 2000 Orange Bowl vs Alabama. I was only 11 years old at the time but I remembered watching that game with my dad and how close it was at the end. Tom Brady blew us away in that game and seeing Anthony Thomas in his final game was also special. I loved the A Train. My first Michigan jersey was a blue #32. Beating OSU then going on to win against Bama. I went nuts when they missed the PTA as Michigan won in OT. One of the greatest games in Michigan history and my favorite bowl game.
The 2003 Outback Bowl, 2005 Rose Bowl and 2008 Capital One Bowl and of course the 2012 Sugar Bowl are in my top 5.
2000 ala vs mich
1997 wash vs mich
that is the game I had on my mind immediately after reading your thread title. Others I would consider would include the 93 & 98 Rose Bowls.
The Browns drafted a QB in the 6th round in 2000. I was hoping it would be Tom Brady, but they opted for Spergeon Wynn instead. Probably better for Tom in the long run. But I often wonder if maybe he would have been able to make the Browns respectable.
You my friend are a dreamer. It would have taken a lot more than Brady to make them respectable.
1997 Rose Bowl, changed my life for the better. I still want a lifesize poster of Woodsons interception from the behind the endzone.
2000 Orange Bowl, because it was awesome, and 2012 Sugar Bowl, because I was there.
97 Rose
00 Orange
05 Rose - A loss but a great game that I watched at a bar with my UT alum brother in law. If you are going to lose a bowl game to Texas it fits that you lose on a FG to a kicker named Dusty Mangum.
Michigan beat USC 22-14. Bo accepted the Rose Bowl trophy "on behalf of some great Wolverines!"
I was a kid when I watched that, and it's tough for a game now to match the excitement I felt then.
highlights of that game years later and I must admit I had tears rolling down my cheeks seeing Bo win for the last time. I wish I was old enough to appreciate that game that year.
...that game was awesome. How sweet it was to enjoy beating USC in a Rose Bowl because you just know that isn't something that will happen very often. I'd actually argue that it was an even better feeling than winning the Rose Bowl to cap the undefeated 97 season.
It was a great experience. I took my Dad to the game. We tail-gated on the golf course outside the stadium, after going to the parade. Of course the best part was we won the game.
Ones that I actually remember watching would rank: 2008 Capital One Bowl (beating Tebow is a great memory), 2012 Sugar Bowl and then the 2005 Rose Bowl. I was too young to really remember watching the 1998 Rose Bowl (for the NC), but if I could it would be #1, no doubt.
2008 capitol one bowl was my favorite game ever. That offense was beautiful/perfect with jake long, henne, mario, arrington and of course hart. They just played so damn hard that game and executed so well. It being Carr's last game only made it even more awesome.
huh?
...I think he's refering the "bowl" he smoked that day. That's my best guess.
Holy Jeebus. Your bong must be laced with snow because now your jaw has locked up.
What does 'they didnt wont to c a reply' mean? 'They didn't want to c a replay'?
1997 Rose Bowl
2000 Orange Bowl
2005 Rose Bowl (even though we lost, it was an awesome game)
2007 Outback Bowl (Lloyd's going away party)
1993 Rose Bowl (again, another loss, but Wheatley was amazing)\
2012 Sugar Bowl
We won the '93 game. One of the best Rose Bowls ever.
but then again I'm not sure why he would? We were killed 34-14 in that game. I think it was typo? :/ I hope!
you mean the 2008 Capital One Bowl as Lloyd's going away party.
We lost to USC in the 2007 Rose Bowl
The 2007 Outback bowl featured a 8-4 Penn State team beating a 9-3 Tennessee team 20 to 10.
the 2007 Outback Bowl didn't rank on your all-time favorites?!? That thrilling 22-yard Kevin Kelly field goal to seal the game with just over 3 minutes left will always be one of my fondest memories of college football.
Hahaha, I definitely got my years messed up. 1993 was what I was thinking of, but yeah, we won that. And of course, Lloyd's going away was 2008
'89 Rose... my freshman year at Michigan... Bo's last game.... beating USC. Special stuff.
He coached the next year too and lost 17-10 to USC in his final game...The '89 game was great, though.
on Michigan's fake punt in the fourth quarter was a bad call. Very disappointing.
If memory serves, one of the Pac 10 refs on that joint-Big Ten/Pac 10 crew later reported that the Big Ten refs were celebrating screwing Bo over with that holding call.
Broke the lamp in my bedroom after the BS holding call. Never did see the finish to that game.
Tyrone Wheatley.
The youngsters here need to watch the highlights. Pure speed.
2012 Sugar Bowl. Just graduated from UM a few weeks earlier, first attended bowl game, drank at the game, and partied with my g/f (a brunette).
Dreaded double post. titties...
+1 for your quote and use of tities
The 2008 Capital One Bowl has to be my favorite recent one. Just with the circumstances surronding Lloyd and the three seniors and how they were 0-3 against Ohio and in bowl games. Not to mention that nobody gave us a chance in that game.
And I am pretty sure that when people say 1997 Rose Bowl, they mean the 1998 Rose Bowl...
it was great to go back to work after the holidays and face all the dejected UF fans. I love that we sent Lloyd out the way we did.
1) January 1st,1998 - Rose Bowl win over Washington State - awesome cap to an awesome season and a great excuse to be late to the first day of Winter Semester that January.
2) January 1st, 2000 - Orange Bowl win over Alabama. Coming back from 14 down twice, as I recall, with Tom Brady leading the way. Great, great comeback win.
3) January 3rd, 2012 - Sugar Bowl win over Virginia Tech - did not end up going (I was at the first two that I listed), but it was a great end to Hoke's first season and I still managed to function the next day at work.
For me, it's the 2012 Sugar Bowl. Yes, it has as much to do with New Orleans, and all that entailed. But it also has to do with it being such a surprise that Michigan had a solid season in 2011, and seeming so far-fetched afer a just horrible '08, a disappointing '09, and a mediocre '10 that ended in the most humiliating Michigan game ever. I felt a lot of that weight lifted just by getting to the Sugar Bowl. There were more thrilling bowl games, and more meaningful ones (I was at the '98 Rose Bowl and rushed the field afterward), but the Sugar Bowl is my favorite.
Other favorites -
1981 Rose Bowl. Bo finally broke through with a victory.
1986 Fiesta Bowl. Beat Nebraska.
1998 Rose Bowl. National Championship.
Least favorite was the 1979 Rose Bowl where we got hosed big-time on Charles White's phantom touchdown.
2013 national championship game
... the only bowl game I have attended. 21-16, whooooooooo!
Oh the inhumanity!!!
Very underrated because I think when we say best we think of a close action packed game. But that game just felt good!
jdon
Only one I have been to, but the MVP was the entire offensive line. awesome!
that's the game I'm thinking of....but I'm pretty old.
