What the Lions are getting with Jeffrey Okudah, per the Freep.

Yes.. an OSU fan posting about Okudah to Detroit. neg me on principle if you need to. I also grew up in NW Ohio, the Lions have been my NFL team since my father taught me to love Barry Sanders and Herman Moore... and the never ending pain every Sunday since. Interesting article about Okudah's work ethic... I'm excited for him and the Lion's secondary next season!

It is destined that Derrick Brown will now become a 10 time pro bowler since we passed him for Okudah. Okudah will be solid but the defense will be trash without a pass rush

I just hope Okudahs confidence doesnt get wrecked. Its impossible to cover your guy consistently when the opposing QB has 7+ seconds every down to throw

I sure hope he's a great player, for me the jury is out, he played on a very talented defense wirh an epic DLine that was given a lot of benefit of the doubt wirh calls.

He was very grabby and clutchy and bumped into guys often before the ball got there and sonehow B1G refs were oblivious to it. I prefered Brown because you need to put pressure on the QB.

We'll see how Okudah holds up when he has to sistain his coverage. He is a good tackler though.

I disagree with this statement. They usually let the most talented players shine but do nothing around them to help the team win. Barry, Herman, Calvin, Spielman, Suh, and so on all had great individual seasons with the Lions. Slay and others of his ilk all had pro bowl seasons with the Lions, they just didn't win anything. Okudah will be defensive rookie of the year on a 500 team.

Freeze, rabbit!

getting drafted by the lions is the equivalent of when colonel Klink used to tell sgt. Shultz that he was going to the eastern front.

kid looks great, love the heart and drive.  But....it's the lions.

The Lions are a lot like a credit card that you maxed in college. Every time you pay it down a bit you get to have a moment of joy and then you spend months making up for it.
This metaphor sucks but if there’s one thing I can count on in my life, it’s the Lions being a disappointment. But I still can’t let them go.

He is a likely a 10 year pro bowl type player at a key position.  But you better get some DTs to stop the run and pressure the QB

You poor SOB.  As bad as they are you should have chosen the Bengals haha.

in reality I think Okudah will be good but a CB at #3 had better turn out to be Richard fucking Sherman.  If he does then mea culpa.  But I would have preferred trading or picking up Simmons

Doesn’t matter how good he is. He’s a Detroit Lion now. One of two things will happen in his career:

1) Most likely scenario, he wildly underperforms and is a solid but unspectacular corner. Holds up alright but gets smoked by better receivers in the league.

2) He does live to the billing and becomes a generational player at his position. But he gets so sick and tired of losing that he retires in his prime and never comes back. Barry and CJ call him and say “Welcome to the club.”

A defense is only as good as its weakest link.  The problem with a great CB is there is a cap to the impact on the team.  If you choose not to throw that direction you have removed the impact of that CB on the game.  If it is a great CB on a good defense this is a huge advantage.  This is not much use on a bad defense.

I would rather spend a high draft pick on someone who can make more plays on the ball.  I think NE's strategy of bringing in a CB as the final piece works better.

He's the best cb to come out of OSU in years, which is a monumental task.  He was "set it and forget it"; whoever he lined up against was in for a quiet day.
