What do you most hope to learn about the team from the Hawaii game?

From the perspective of starters, I suspect that next weeks depth chart is likely to contain some key ors. Speight or O'Korn, Newsome or Braderson. So I suspect the first thing we may learn is who won those jobs. With regards to starters, I am not sure this game can tell us much more (at least from a positive perspevtive).

If our new left tackle is frequently beaten or our new quarterback can"t sustain drives, that will bode very badly. If on the other hand, the offensive line looks dominating or our qb throws for 200 plus yards in the first half, that provides only limited assurance that they'll play well against the MSUs and OSUs of the world. With regards to starters, one area I think we can learn alot about is linebacer play. That is one area that I would be most reassured by a strong performance.

It is however key reserves who I think we may learn the most about. Does a fourt wide reciever look good? Who is the go to TE after Butt, who are the first offensive linemen in and how do they look.

My top ten is:

1. Who is our qb and do we at least get the assurance that he looked good against Hawaii

2. Ditto for LT

3. Any indications that the Chris Evans hype is legit

4. Do our linebackers look solid and is there any depth

5. Does Kalis look more consistent

6. Who are the first reseve linemen in and how do they look? Do we have depth beyond the starting 5?

7. Does a 4th or 5th reciever (beyond Perry) stand out?

8. Does a 2nd or 3rd TE stand out?

9. Does Smith pick up where he left off?

10. How does the second string secondary look?

Don't need a superstar performance by any one RB, just consistency. Will greatly help our new QB to develop an offensive play pattern dictated by choice rather than necessity.

QB is obvious, but I really want to see guys that didn't play last year to gauge their explosiveness. The foundation of the team is very solid and dependable. A few major athletes - need another handful at various positions. Mone, McCray, Gary, Asiasi, Long, Evans, Uche, LT, Gentry. Can they physically bring more athleticism to the team?

I'm looking to be impressed by this team. A dominant 35+ point win will suffice.

I'd like to see a nice deep ball from the quarterback as well as an ability to convert on 3rd downs. From the running backs, I'd like to see Deveon get 15-20 carries with about 100-120 yards. I'm hoping Ty Isaac looks like the starting back, even if he only gets 10 carries I'd think he can get 80+ yards. I'd like to see Chesson pick up where he left against Florida, and hopefully see no ill effects from his injury.

Defense should keep Hawaii to a field goal or less. And I want to see them force 2+ turnovers. DL should constantly be in the backfield, and I'm hoping I don't notice the linebackers outside of stellar play from Peppers. I want to see the punting unit exactly one time, and that's only to see a spread formation followed by a 50+ yard bomb by Kenny.

I don't think any performance against Hawaii from the QB, OLine, RBs, back up receivers, etc. will calm my concerns,  but if I see athletic linebackers flying around the field making plays... well, it might get messy.

So clearly there is a lot to see but I'll stick to three understanding there are a lot more.

1. No injuries!!!!!! Need I saw more?

2. I want to see that even with Peppers playing more inside the box we are able to stuff the quick screen game. When we play OSU we will need to be able to shutdown the quick screen game without Peppers because having him in the box to stop the power option will be needed.

3. I want to see that Dymonte Thomas is the deep free safety I think he is. I am HUGE on this kid right now. I think he is big time talent with 4.45 speed to get over the top and the ability to lead the team in INT'S. His talent playing out moves up from maybe B1G champs and making the playoff to favorite to win the Natty.

How does Mike McCray, Noah Furbush and Tyrone Wheatley jr look? Quarter back play. How does Brian Mone look? What freshman play ? Despite playing a cupcake team to start the year this game will reveal quite a bit. Can't wait..

I hope to find out how many coney dogs I can eat at the Grand Tavern in Delray Beach. It's been far too long and I look forward to spending fall Saturdays in the midst of expat Michiganders once again.

I don't think we'll learn anything from the Hawaii game, other than who the QB and LT will be. It's a garbage team that even a Brady Hoke coached team could beat.
