What’s the next Michigan single game individual record to fall?

Submitted by Larry Appleton on July 28th, 2019 at 10:23 PM

The current record holders:

Pass completions - 34 (Tom Brady)

Passing yards - 503 (Devin Gardner)

Passing TDs - 6 (Jake Rudock)

Rushing yards - 347 (Ron Johnson)

Rushing TDs (modern era)- 5 (Ron Johnson)

Receptions - 15 (Marquise Walker (twice))

Receiving yards - 369 (Jeremy Gallon)

Receiving TDs - 4 (Derrick Alexander and Jehu Chesson)

Total offense - 584 (Devin Gardner)

Tackles - 24 (Calvin O’Neal)

Sacks - 5 (Mark Messner)

TFL - 8 (Khaleke Hudson)

If I had to pick one, it’d be completions, and possibly soon.

I think the world will end before Gallon’s record is broken.

Probably passing TD's. If we get a faster tempo offense with a good QB, 7 passing TD's should be doable.

The problem with any passing stats is that unless you're in a Haskins vs. Purdue situation where you have to throw a bunch of stay in it, a blowout is going to see a lot of rotation at the key spots such that a guy wouldn't be able to collect the requisite stats.  For example, both the Gallon, Gardener, and Rudock numbers came in games against IU where those were real shootouts and the defense faltered.

So basically, play a chaos team.  Maybe Nebraska?

Given the lack of a sport in the OP's thread title, I was going to chime in with Ks or HRs based on our new baseball prowess and subsequent impact on recruiting.

Not sure of an answer but I was at that IU game where some of these records were set. The defense was so bad it was not enjoyable. I also remember it raining, sleeting, and almost snowing. That game made me invest in good rain gear. My fondest memory was saying, "so and so is open, everybody is open!" Famous meme from that game too. This poor girl gets brought out anytime UM is being dogged on.

I was at that game as well.  I remember Indiana going 80 yards in 3 plays, 75 yards in two plays...it completely sucked the fun out of how well the offense was doing.

The last "fun" game against Indiana was 2006.  Every meeting since then has involved stressful shootouts, blown leads, overtime heroics, John OKorn in the snow...and last year's game which was pretty ho-hum after 9 straight wins, on top of the fact that IU players looked like they were intentionally trying to injure our guys.

Ben Mason breaks the Rushing TDs record w/ 6 one-yarders.

But seriously, Hayden Epstein's 57 yd FG record could be broken by Quinn Nordin should Harbaugh give him the chance.  Not sure about Moody's 57+ range.

I'd have to pick total offense, even in a blowout the subs could pile on the yardage. With a good d it's hard to see a starter staying in after we've scored that many points.

Tackles.

34 is a ton of completions. For reference, Shea averaged about 16 completions a game in 2018. And was pretty efficient in doing so. He only attempted 34 twice -- @OSU and vs Florida.

Completions.  I was thinking total yards but then Shea/McCaffrey would have to go for 385 yards passing and 200 rushing ..... even throwing for 450 they'd have to run for 135 to break it.   Maybe it's BPONE but I see no situation where this happens.

I could see a 40 completion game with #speedinspace.

Don't know what the records are, but longest kickoff return for a touchdown, longest punt return for a touchdown and longest interception return for a touchdown would be interesting records to break, especially if they all were broken in a single game.

2013 Gardner/Gallon was hilarious. You got the sense everyone except Indiana's defense was thinking "Um, maybe you should occasionally cover the receiver with an absurd number of yards".
