"Week 1" opening night game thread

Submitted by crg on August 29th, 2019 at 6:12 PM

More college football tonight!  Some of it might actually be good! (Probably not - don't care).

Big Ten football starts tonight with Minnesota taking on FCS South Dakota State.  Also UCLA vs Cincinnati as early night game and the BYU-Utah Holy War late.

Productivity tomorrow morning will be low.

I'll be watching UCLA/Cincy as well as the U.S. Open.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Dorian Thompson-Robinson does for UCLA. He was almost a Wolverine, but...

Whoa, this year was a very good one. But, I don't know if anything can touch Federer/Nadal in 2008. Roger going for 6 straight, and Nadal trying to break through somewhere other than Roland Garros. The point by point tension of that match is unmatched. And, they were both razor sharp in that match. It's much watch tv whenever 2 of the Big 3 are facing off, though.

Didn’t realize UCLA played so many true freshmen last year. Really curious to see what Kelly can put on the field this year. UCLA will give him plenty of time to build us program, and he’ll be able to recruit very well.

The recruiting is not going great, last years class ended up 40th, with only 1 player in the top 400 and so far this years is worse.  The 2018 class was pretty good and those are last years freshman but he's going to need to do something fast or he will put UCLA in a deep talent hole that may doom him and the next coach.

And it completely shows on the field. Cincinnati is kicking their ass on both lines. They can't really run it and I've seen 0 pass rush.

I thought Chip was a pretty solid hire at the time but it's clear his recruiting plan hasn't gotten any traction (and that's a generous interpretation) and it's not 2009 anymore.

Umm his recruiting has been complete crap and is remaining so.  It's puzzling because he pulled together a pretty good class pretty fast in his transition class in 2018, but 2019 and 2020 classes have been....subpar, to put it kindly.  It's cause a pretty vicious fight between the rational part of the fanbase and those who think Chip can do no wrong.

I’d think cincy being a competent program is a good thing for Michigan. Would love for those second tier Ohio recruits to go to cincy over the big ten. Maybe they even steal a cincy guy osu or Nd want
