Weather update for the game
I’m not the awesome MGoWeather so sorry.
While I sit in Des Monies for work over the week, since I try to have off for the game and I don’t care about working thanksgiving I’ve been closely keeping track of the low pressure system that was supposed to bring rain to the Ann Arbor area Saturday.
That system appears to be stalling. It looks like no significant precipitation will fall during tailgating or the game. Winds will be gusty and it will be cold but should be mostly dry. As the day moves on the precip chance does increase. A noon start helps this.

No waders needed? Thanks for the update.

With the emergence of our passing game, I think the better the weather the better it is for us. Hopefully it continues to clear up

I've gone back and forth with this. We've been running pretty well and PSU had some success running up the gut on OSU. I think the more the weather shrinks the field and negates speed, the smaller the gap will be between the two teams. Especially if Fields is out or limited. A slop fest at home isn't a bad thing.
November 27th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
They seem to play pretty well in the sloppy weather, so if it rains/sleets Saturday, I would actually welcome it. I'd like to see how Fields handles it.
November 27th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
And OSU doesn't handle the wet weather well - at least they didn't last Saturday against PSU. They actually dominated the game and stats but their fumbles as soon as the rain started in the 3rd quarter kept the game somewhat close for awhile.
November 27th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
Ugh, wind will be bad for our passing game.
November 27th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
Also bad for t(tm)OSU passing game.
November 27th, 2019 at 9:19 PM ^
If the wind is a factor, OSU can lean on Fields and dobbins in the run game.
If our passing attack is limited, then our run offense will most likely look pretty bad. We absolutely need our WRs involved in a big way on Saturday
November 27th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
I feel like wind is the worst thing for a passing oriented offense. Rain kind of equally affects run and pass (since a wet ball is also hard to hand off, hold onto, etc).
November 27th, 2019 at 6:01 PM ^
8-10 mph likely...not much especially 'down in the bowl'
November 27th, 2019 at 4:49 PM ^
Well, windy helps slow the OSU deep ball I guess. So there is that...
November 27th, 2019 at 4:59 PM ^
Good thing they only need to throw it ten yards in the air and let their receivers take it to the house!
November 27th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
Fields throws high. A little wind may be a good thing.
November 27th, 2019 at 5:00 PM ^
The weather folks in Toledo have called for basically shit weather before during and after. Not that I don’t wanna believe this, as I’ll be going and would rather not freeze my baguettes off in the sleet and rain.
November 27th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
I hope you're right. The ND game was enough bad weather for one season
November 27th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
I don't know about that. I think Kelly and most of his team got cold, tired and eventually started dreaming of the warm bus ride back to South Bend. Would be good to happen to osu too.
November 27th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
... but 20 degree is warmer. Tailgate maybe this week. Condo party in play
November 27th, 2019 at 5:17 PM ^
Yes, very correct. The heavy snow will remain in the Dakotas up to MN. May see some light snow and flurries or sprinkles before the game but it is looking dry as the upper trough and surface low is much slower lifting northeast out of the Plains and temps at KO should be in the mid 30s, may be warming up to the upper 30s.

Nothing a Sharpie can't fix.

NOAA isn't agreeing with that forecast:
A chance of snow before 11am, then rain and snow likely between 11am and 2pm, then rain likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Here is the hourly graph. You can typically bank on NOAA. Check back for updates.

NOAA is frequently off, as I use them all the time and pay attention to their predictions. The night service person will change the forecast at about 0300 hrs. Would not mind a dry game day.
November 27th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
How can the national weather service that controls all of the related weather satellites be frequently off? Never doubt NOAA, but definitely hit refresh to get the latest update.
November 27th, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
two days ago, in the middle of a 3 hour rain, they continued to maintain that we would only have a 10% chance of rain, and that was what they'd said all day.
it may be strange, but because we farm i pay a signif amount more attention to the weather than most. they are frequently not just wrong (not expecting perfection), but way wrong and that right up to the last second.

I trust Warde is supplying the towels.
November 27th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
The National Weather Service is saying "Rain Likely after 1 PM" with a 70% chance overall. It does look like the bulk of the precipitation will now be Saturday night.
November 27th, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Here is the North American Model, which is usually superior to the Global Forecast Model (which the NWS often uses in their forecast). It shows the stronger warm advection remaining to our south. There may be periods of drizzle but it won't be a rain-out.
November 27th, 2019 at 6:56 PM ^
The forecast above is for 1 PM Saturday. The forecast here is for 4 PM Saturday. Looks mainly dry, though weather models have a difficult time picking up on drizzle.
November 27th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
If that low was over Columbus, we would be having blizzard bowl part 2.
November 28th, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
That model still trending dry on Nov 28th. Hi-resolution models following suit.

If it’s anything like the weather that has me hamfisted in Denver, it’s going to be a fun time. 7 hours in an airport stinks, 4 weed gummy candies doesn’t.
November 27th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
If it's as windy and blustery as it was today here in A2, throwing the ball is going to be an adventure.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Southeast wind 15-20 MPH gusts to 30 MPH. I guess heading towards the north end-zone will be much easier then driving to the south end-zone.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
Oh the weather outside is weather
November 28th, 2019 at 2:18 PM ^
Thursday model data now indicating more dry air to stave off measurable precip during the game. Arrival time pushed back from 8 AM to approx 2 PM or around halftime. Would be a very light rain at times at worst. Some indication no precip entire game.
Temps only in the mid 30s. Wind 10-15 mph from the ESE. Max gusts would be under 20 mph for not too much of an inpact.
Worst case scenario would be very light snow before the game the patchy light rain, mixed with some snow flakes during the game. Wouldn't be any worse than what occurred in Bloomington last Saturday.
