What’s the backstory? The metal cleats? They fight over a woman? Is it long ball envy?
edit: well shit it’s right in the title
Bryson used to be (maybe still is?) the slowest player on the tour. Like, really really fucking slow. Infuriatingly slow. It got to a point where everyone was talking about it and ESPN would even show highlights of him being a slow dickhead on the course. There was a particular instance where he took like 5 minutes to discuss an 80ish yard pitch, then he actually paced off the shot by walking from his ball to the green, then discussed it more with his caddy, before he finally told the guy he was paired with to go ahead and hit. I'm pretty sure the PGA changed their rules on slow play to be harsher on the slow guys after this.
Anyway, Brooks confronted Bryson about his slow play and Bryson got super mad and acted offended. Looked like he wanted to fight Brooks. I'm sure there's more to the animosity that happened after this incident, but I think this is how the feud started. Fast forward to Sunday, and Bryson is saying dumb shit and stomping around in his metal cleats during Brook's interview.
I love the golf drama and am Team Brooks, obviously.
Bonus vid from last night of Bryson lifting weights like an asshole.
Best comment of the day!
I thought Justin Thomas was playing incredibly slow on Thursday, Friday and it was grinding Brooks gears a bit. But maybe I'm reading into it too much and it's just Brooks demeanor on the course.
Team Brooks?! He looks like a self-worshipping, crybaby asshole!
Which is not to say I prefer slow as fuck, over-analyzing Bryson either!
But after how meticulous Phil was about his yardages, the direction & velo of the wind, calming his heart rate & breathing, visualizing all the shots before hitting them (in other words S-L-O-W!) hard to believe anyone is gonna complain about Bryson being slow anymore!
Phil nearly got put on the clock - in the last group! He was holding up airing of 60 Minutes I guess?!
I love Koepka. Sure, he talks some shit and can sometimes have a bit of an attitude but his game is incredible and he seems like an overall pretty laid back and easy going guy. He's a halfway asshole, my kind of guy.
Bryson on the other hand is just a whiny little bitch that wears stupid hats. He's lucky Patrick Reed exists because if he didn't Bryson would probably be the least popular player on tour.
Bryson's slowness isn't a real problem, but to some, including me, his dickishness is
He looks like a self-worshipping, crybaby asshole!
Why do you give a shit how he looks? I don't understand why this bothers you so much? Is it his clothes? What a fucking weird comment.
10.1.1Team Brooks?! He looks like a self-worshipping, crybaby asshole!
Not to mention Brooks fucking crying about the crowd on 18 like he's Shooter McGavin getting schooled by Happy Gillmore.
Not that it matters. I mean like to Golf, but they both seem like lil country club bitchy assholes. No wonder they annoy one another.
Plus his name is Bryson LOL. He also tries to sell this idea that he does all these physics calculations involving barometric pressure, wind, etc. As if...what a joke.
Well, he also wears that stupid fucking hat, so there's that
Looks good on you though.
I think it's more than just his spikes.
There definitely is more to it. First just the sight of Btyson, but the fact that less than 1/3 of the tour wears metal spikes just pushes it over the top.
i think dechambeau says something as he walks past, too…”maybe you should pick the right line,” or some such.
either way, i’m now a koepka stan.
Koepka > dechambeau.
There will be blood.
I'm with you, It HAS to be something dechambeau said, right? Can't believe a professional golfer would get that rattled by the sound of cleats on the sidewalk....not his first rodeo by far. Either way, his epic eye roll at the very beginning shows he was pretty annoyed before the interview even started.
The beef goes back a few years. Koepka hates how Dechambeau is a golf purist and takes forever during his rounds.
Koepka is more easygoing and wants it to be fun and thinks Dechambeau is a hardo-douchebag.
He's not wrong...
Oh yeah I'm 100% on Koepka's side. Bryson can screw off lol
Thanks for the explanation. Otherwise the golfer's annoyance is a bit unclear.
He also definitely added 40 pounds of muscle during the 3 month hiatus using PEDs, without question.
Not a fan, but they test regularly for PED's and he would definitely get caught if he were using.
Testing for PEDs basically stopped during a 91 day hiatus.

Also, PGA's testing isn't nearly as rigorous as other sports. You can cycle during a vacation in the off-season and have it cleared out of your system by the next time you have to test.
Dude comes back from a pandemic era testing hiatus with 40 pounds of muscle and a new-found temper? Screaming at cameramen and such? You'll forgive me if I don't give him the benefit of the doubt here.
PEDs. Quite possibly. Anyone else find it odd that Phil now at age 50 is hitting the ball 360 and in the best shape of his life?
Odd? No. Inspiring? Yes.
Phil was always a long hitter. It looks more like he finally decided to eat a salad or two and actually hit the gym. Golf distance is much more about technique than brute strength. Look at some of these small guys like Rory who pound the ball.
I am sorry, but human body does not work that way. Age is something that you cannot avoid (without some help). We know from every other sport that late age dominance is supported by steroid/hgh. Not sure why Phil would be exempt. What Phil did is still a great accomplishment, but let's not kid ourselves.
Tom Watson was 6 inches from winning the British Open at 59 and trust me, it isn't 'roids that did it. Golf is one of the few games where AARP eligible people can compete at a high level. I think the main factors in golfing well while old are avoiding a major injury from repetitive motion (back, various joints) and losing the ability to putt.
True, and Jack Nicklaus won he was 46. But those guys were not winning/close to winning it generating 180mph on ball launch speed. They were both clearly step shorter than their prime, but made it up with accuracy and know how.
This is not how Phil won. He is hitting harder than he did in his prime. Not all of that can be explained with new equipment.
Tom Watson was driving it about 265 at that British.
Which makes sense comparing to 287 average that year for a tour pro. If Tom Watson was driving it 285, I would wonder about him as well.
It's simple physics -- clubhead speed and smash factor. Let's also not forget the wind was completely behind them on 16-18 on Sunday, and it looked like a 2-3 club wind. The 360-yard drive on 16 would normally have been 320-330, probably.
Phil is in arguably the best shape of his career. I can assure you it's possible for a 50-ish amateur to carry a driver 270-280 yards without PEDs. The difference is swinging a driver 5-10 mph slower than average pros and not always hitting it as pure (max smash factor of 1.5). Each mph is about 3 yards of carry, and smash factor is ball speed / clubhead speed.
Phil is just that good.
Maximum (legal) smash factor has not changed in the last 20 years. I saw 180mph ball speed on Phil's drives. He didn't even do that during his prime years. Based on how long he was during his prime, I would understand if he was winning with average or little better than average length for PGA Tour (which is still very long). But that is not what we are talking about here. He was outdriving Koepka, who is one of the longest hitter on the tour. There is no possible way he is doing this at 50 without chemical help.
Since Phil swings around 117mph, I would expect ball speed close to 180mph. I didn't see the 180 you mentioned, but that's 120mph swing speed, adrenaline charged on a Sunday at a major with the lead.
Smash factor may not have changed (seeing as it's regulated to max at 1.5), but driver technology as a whole sure has. I picked up 10 yards of carry switching from a 2-year old driver to a new one. My swing did not change.
It's very possible.
You obviously didn't watch the video on how Phil makes his coffee in the mornings.
Anyone else find it odd that Phil now at age 50 is hitting the ball 360 and in the best shape of his life?
Ummm... no.
Phil is rocking a dad bod.
Are there players juicing on the PGA? Most likely. The Mark 1 Eyeball test clearly shows Phil ain't one of them.
I am not so sure. Phil had the dad-bod of dad-bods for years. He definitely had less of of dad-bod than ever before. I thought he looked distinctly different than in the past. Then Enbrel difference perhaps.
The guy who uses same length clubs and steroids-up to increase his length is not what I would call "golf purist"...
Koepka can be a little bitch too though. His post tourney presser was straight sour grapes. Talking about how people were purposely trying to hit his knee...pff, get out of here with that soft shit.
Elite golfers are such prima donna sometimes
Agreed, this was the best moment on tour in two years. It was sour grapes. Don't make it about yourself when you had front row seats of one of the most amazing feats in golf history.
Brooks was bit testy.
He was not too happy with the Mickleson mob scene on 18 saying his injured knee was getting bumped in the crowd commotion.
Koepka is a graceless individual. No words of congratulations for Phil, just bitching about the crowd.
To be fair, there were a ton of complete assholes in the crowd who were fucking around with both golfers. It was shameful. I'm not a golf purist by any means, but I really hated how out of control and stupid many people in the crowd were acting.
Just on the last hole, one person in the crowd picked up Phil's ball(!!!) and dropped it in what looked to be a shitty lie, and there were several people who were grabbing Phil as he walked to the green and had to be pushed back by police. I'd complain too if people were bumping into my injured knee. The PGA probably needs to make sure that sort of stuff doesn't happen in the future.
10.1.1Phil tries pretty hard to stay in the good graces of the fans and it seemed difficult for him to say anything too complimentary of them during his winning interview. I think he was just as annoyed as Koepka, just less likely to call them out. Plus winning makes everything a little more tolerable I'm sure.
Tournament organizers need to own that. It’s not a soccer mob but still it could be dangerous and probably unnerving for the players to be trapped in a mosh pit scene.
Yeah, the crowd scene made for some good TV, but in the long run, the PGA needs to put a stop to that. That is a disaster waiting to happen.
