We aren't allowed to give scholarships to walk-ons until we beat MSU and OSU didn't you know?

Clara Peller's mantra of "Where's The Beef?" is funnier than this.

We're not allowed to know where the beef is until we beat Hawaii

My question is that with hearing on The Insider Morning show that Andrew David wasn't even invited to camp, and they're allowed 105 players in camp, and have 79 under scholarship currently, how many scholarship players are left out of camp this year? Was he the only one?
August 25th, 2016 at 5:08 PM ^
I think he is the only one that wouldn't count against the scholarship numbers. Mitchell and Shelton Joshnson aren't in camp, but count against the numbers.

the only one left out.

it looks like the inside of a Nike store

Must be a really big scholarship then.
August 25th, 2016 at 4:48 PM ^
A lot of walk-ons in your local Nike store are there?

Get your threads right, you jive turkey.

Should probably leave a scholarship open for Harambe. It's the right thing.
August 25th, 2016 at 5:00 PM ^
I heard they're going to be adding a seat next to Crisler's "secret seat" for Harambe.

I'd love to see Portnoy and Brian in the same room. Two alums with some of the largest sports blogs on the internet. They probably couldn't be more different as people though.

King Kong but fast.

I agree with you

I always wondered how the coaching staff determines these things. Playing time would seem to be the main factor - then seniroity as the next reason perhaps?

I'd give Jabrill Peppers TWO scholarships if he promised to simply exhaust his full eligibility in ONE. He can use it for himself, give it away...I don't care. I have 4 years of education free of charge at Michigan for you Pep! All you have to do is play through your RS Senior season.
Deal? DEAL!

Henderson, Jocz, Wroblewski and Hirsch.
August 25th, 2016 at 5:18 PM ^
There is nothing to say that you have to use all 85...these will only be given out if player expected to contribute meaningfully. For that reason, Im not sure if i see 2 walk on fullbacks getting a scholarship.

I seriously doubt they're gonna hold on to scholarships if they have them. Even if they are not going to contribute meaningfully, those walk ons are integral for the practice squad and probably giving it their all. We are fortunate to have enough scholarship players that we dont need to rely on many walk ons for meaningful time.
August 26th, 2016 at 4:14 AM ^
It wouldnt hirsch to give them out.

I think what's "meaningful" to Harbaugh is a lot more than live game snaps. Hirsch may never play in a game, but he's a great example of character and courage and I think Harbaugh would love to reward that. So, that speaks to Hirsch.
I do expect we'll see Henderson play. Wroblewski and Jocz are "veteran" walk-ons at this point and deserve the recognition just for hanging in there.
Harbaugh makes a point to call out walkons in his press conferences. I think he loves walkons and means it.
August 25th, 2016 at 7:18 PM ^
for their work on scout teams, if not enough players who contribute in games. I'm not sure what is to be gained from withholding a scholarship. Harbaugh's not on that kind of a budget. It gives an incentive for other walkons to come back for another season.
August 25th, 2016 at 7:34 PM ^
They'll give them out. Walk on scholarships usually aren't automatically renewable so might as well reward some guys (especially as Harbaugh builds up the walk on program).

AJ Pearson has played a decent amount and gets a lot of publicity for a walk on.
August 25th, 2016 at 8:07 PM ^
Yeah..he would definitely be ahead of a 2nd fullback as he has played in past

We should let PJ Fleck hand them out.

worrying about over signing. Seems that is no longer a concern and those of us that were not concerned had it figured out correctly.

+1 to you.

Garrett Moores, new dark horse candidate to start at QB? It's been an incredible subterfuge by Harbaugh this whole time! Heck, Moores even sat out the spring game with the other surefire starters, we should've seen it coming
In case it isn't obvious: /s
