Volleyball wins Michigan Invitational in clean sweep

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After an easy sweep to open the season yesterday, Michigan would finish up the Michigan Invitational today with a doubleheader.

First up was Miami University in an early bird 11am match. Super sophomore Carly Skjodt repeated her career-high 13 kill match from yesterday's waxing of Saint Louis, matching that total.

Michigan would beat up Miami in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-18).

The finale of the Michigan Invitational would be against Northern Iowa, six and a half hours after the MU match ended.

UNI generally has a respectable athletic department that can compete with power 5 schools across multiple sports. Although going a paltry 19-15 last season, the Panthers were ranked the last time Michigan faced them in 2012.

Northern Iowa would challenge in every set, taking the lead at some point in each of them. They started off sets 2 and 3 with leads. But Michigan's talent was too much for them to overcome.

Carly Skjodt cooled off and "only" had 9 kills, but Abby Cole had the monster match this time out with 17 kills. RS Freshman Cori Crocker led Michigan with 7 blocks.

Michigan wins the Michigan Invitational, the first of two home tournaments this season.

We'll head to Manhattan........Kansas next weekend for the K-State Invitational, taking on Kansas State on Friday night, and then a doubleheader on Saturday with Georgia Tech at 11am and then Tennessee State at 6pm.

Women's college Volleyball is an awesome sport to watch and even better when it is our Lady Wolverines!  Coach Rosen and his wife do a great job year in and year out and a great value in terms of single and even season tickets.
