The Vig: Week 1 Who is your money on this week?

Submitted by canzior on September 3rd, 2021 at 12:54 PM

Huge slate of games this week...Clemson is still -3 vs Georgia.

Georgia's starting center is recovering from a broken hand, and trying to snap with his off hand.

Their 2 best WR's are out, one with injury, one is awy from the team for personal reasons. Starting TE is also OUT.  Also missing a starting DB and have another one probable tomorrow.

Tulane at Oklahoma, -26.5...Tulane displaced and likely distracted because of Hurricane Ida...could get ugly.

Louisiana at Texas -8....yeesh, Billy Napier has those boys rolling.  And they beat Iowa State last year...by 17....

LSU at UCLA +3.5...DTR passed for 50%...against Hawaii last week. LSU has 2 excellent corners and a very good DL. Charbonnet had a 47 yard run, otherwise averaged 11 per carry...vs Hawaii.  A LOT of poor tackling.  I think they are markedly less successful this week vs a much better defense.

WHho you got??

already a winner with OSU -13.5 and over 62.5

I've already got a parlay with KST -2.5, FRESNO +20.5 and BAMA -18.5 locked in at +593

ALSO in on ULL +9.5

very heavily considering LSU -2.5 and MSU (yes that MSU) +3.5

Cincinnati -22 against Miami is my only play this week.  UC is simply much much better than Miami.  And they'll need to make statements if they are to make a playoff run.

Excluding the Terrible Tommy Tuberville regime, UC has won by more than 21 every time they have played Miami in the Queen City since 2007.

I can't believe that Clemson/UGA line hasn't moved. I expect Clemson to win by 14. I also expect UCLA to struggle mightily against a defense that actually has the tiniest semblance of a clue.

I hope ULL blows out Texas and their latest dipshit head coach.

Disclaimer: Me expecting something to happen generally means the opposite will occur. This is why I do not gamble.

Thankfully I took OSU at -13.5 rather than 14 so that was a good start to the week

Tonight on I'm on UNC at -4.5 and I'm on MSU both at +3.5 and a little on ML. Northwestern had higher than normal turnover in a year where everyone is returning a bunch of production.

FYI that Oklahoma game spread is over 31 now that the game is in Norman. Good for anyone that got it at 26.

I originally took Georgia when it was +3.5 both spread and a bit of ML. Thought that line would move a bit so I took it early before Georgia started having guys out with injury. Still feel ok about it but less so than when I took it.

I wanted to take the Under, at 67, on the M-WMU game tomorrow, but cannot, since am in NY and still not allowed... to me it seems a good bet...  I would have expected an Over/Under around 15-20 points less.

I have an OSU, Bama, Clemson teaser that I'm hoping pays for my other bets this weekend.

I have an OSU, Indiana, Arizona, ND moneyline parlay I'm getting +1635 on.

Trying to talk myself into Clemson tomorrow.

Just have a feeling.  BYU has to replace a very good QB that covered up a lot of weaknesses for them and they have a big rivalry game in week 2 so would be easy to come out and not play their best.  Also I don’t think Arizona is terrible and I think Coach Fisch will at least be competent.

Going with UNC ML

LSU -1.5

Clemson -3

I wanted to put something on MSU vs Northwestern but I can't make up my mind either way so I'm going to leave that one alone.

I parlayed OSU (-13.5) and Rutgers (-14). Halfway done there.

Threw a few bucks on Northern Colorado (+37.5) this morning for a goof since I live in Denver and am excited to see what Dylan and Tru can do.

i may be the only one apparently in the world who likes GA there.

I took MSU moneyline - and will feel as if I've won no matter the outcome there.

I liked the CA -3 vs nevada.

Other than that, everything seems to be a crapshoot.

hard to feel confident about anything in week one.

I have a 6 game parlay- because, why not?

Northwestern -3.5 vs MSU (I know, I missed this line at 3.0)

Michigan -17 vs WMU (for some reason, I think M runs away with this)

USC -14 vs San Jose State

Syracuse -1 at Ohio

LSU -3 at UCLA (I got this one better than it was earlier, it was -4 during the week)

FSU +7.5 vs ND

Last night I won on BGSU +35 and pushed on OSU -14.  But lost on UCF -6.5 thanks to the hole they dug themselves.

Tomorrow I will take Michigan -17 (call me crazy and a homer, fine)

I like Georgia and the points.

I like UNC minus the points.

And I like UCLA and the points.

I have a very stupid question:  what is the meaning behind "The Vig" and how does it relate to sporting wagers?   I'm finally old and mature enough to feel slightly comfortable asking silly questions.    Enlighten me.

The "vig" (vigorish) or "juice" is the built-in house edge. Often with you bet against the spread, you are wagering 11 dollars to win 10, rather than 10 for 10. That extra buck is the vig.

Other bets -- such as prop bets or bets on an important number (like -3) -- may have extra juice. For example, to get XYZ State -3, you may see a line of (-130), meaning you have to bet 13 dollars to win 10 (or 130 to win 100).

3-1 yesterday.  Lost first half buckeyes but won for the game.  BGSU and the under worked against Tennessee.

Trying Sparty game under 46 and money line tonight.  Don’t see much offense happening. Also have under 52.5 in the Rutgers game and Rutgers -13 in a parlay with buckeyes.

Ohio ML against Syracuse.  A friend’s kid plays for Ohio and I think Syracuse is bad.

Put a little on ULL money line over Texas.  Screw Smooth Jimmy.

I will do some more looking around if Sparty wins tonight.

Forgot I have a ML parlay working with NC State, UCF, and Rutgers.  Just need Rutgers to finish that one out.
