BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty

"Fabio Capello will need to look long and hard for the positives there. England simply maintained their recent disappointing form and the reaction of the United States players at the final whistle confirmed the more satisfied team.

"It is hard to see how Capello can stick with keeper Robert Green after a moment that will have shattered his confidence. The worries about Ledley King's injury have returned and Emile Heskey - for all his honest endeavour - is a blunt instrument in front of goal.

"Is it too much to ask for Capello to put his two best offensive players, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, closer together as an attacking pair? A poor start for England."

I think you'd take 1-1 every time going into this situation.  Glad Green wasn't wearing the same white shorts as his friends or it would have gotten ugly when he shit himself on that goal.  Dempsey and (especially) Donovan are fucking class.  Tim Howard is a fucking LEGEND!  Bob Bradley is still completely clueless (Can we ever higher a proper professional manager?).  His son is almost as bad (had acres of space in the middle of the park a number of times and just sat there like he was waiting for a bus).  Our back line is unbelievably schizophrenic.  Made a number of good plays but we were ridiculously lucky to concede just one with the chances England got (Did I mention Tim Howard is a fucking LEGEND?).

All in all, the English side are still a bag of pish and I loved every second of the humping we just put on them (in my head 1-1 has already become a magnificent victory).  Time to break out the good Scotch and start celebrating.

My friends enjoyed it too if you're looking for a laugh at the expense of our enemies:

I apologize, I haven't got time to read the thread, but I wanted to ask what is that 'buzzing' that seems to accompany every soccer game I ever watch? Reverb? You never hear it with college football...I gotta go, kthxbye!

I feel awful for Green. I am glad he did it and gift wrapped the US a point, but I don't wish that on anyone. I hope for his sake he keeps the job and gets a few good games in before England loses in penalties in the quarterfinals.

1) How Carragher wasn't sent off I'll never know. The yellow that he got could have been a straight red (US players have gotten one for less in past World Cups). Then when Findley got the breakaway, Carragher hauled him down from behind. Looked like a clear foul on the replay (not a particularly hard one, but a foul nonetheless), and a foul by the last man back on a breakaway is almost always a red. I was watching at a bar and couldn't hear the commentary (or the swarm of angry bees), so I don't know what they thought of it, but if it's a foul at all - and it sure looked like it - given that he's already on a yellow he's absolutely gone.

2) Howard is a beast.

3) There needs to be a "Robert Green for Golden Ball" (or "Robert Green for Yashin") Yakety Sax video. (The Golden Ball is the World Cup's equivalent of the Heisman; the Yashin Award is best keeper.)

We didn't use the width of the field at all.  Obviously, I'm thankful for the draw but, holy shit!!  I was really struck by how poorly the defensive shape of the USA was compared to the few games that have already played.  Tim Howard needs to rest the ribs and be ready on Friday - without him, we are toast!  Oh, one last thing... Coach, TAKE YOUR SON OUT OF THE GAME WHEN HE STOPS RUNNING WITH 20  MINUTES LEFT TO PLAY! (jmho)
