Paul Nasr (The Daily) interviewed Mel Pearson today. Not much here other than the "disgruntled employee" bit. Wonder who that might be....

Thanks for keeping us updated.

I must've missed the "update" part.

Getting info from Pearson & they don't sound very concerned about the investigation outcome. That's an update.

pretty much sums it up. the link is there, but some people probably can't access twitter..

It's super easy to embed a tweet

it's quite a long thread

I keep waiting for the "film at 11" or the "click here for more!" type of response. Definite framed as a "gotcha" interview.

So far this all seems pretty boilerplate for an investigation of this type, regardless of its veracity. I don't think we're learning anything substantial yet.

"Innocent until proven guilty, people forget that nowadays."
Man is that ever the truth. Speaking from first hand knowledge here (was accused of inappropriate conversations with an associate backing the early 90's) that with some accusations it is definitely "guilty until proven innocent" by the court of public opinion or in my case, co-workers.
I was completely exonerated via an internal review and the associate apologized for the false accusation but the damage was done. Certain co-workers never treated me the same because I'm sure to them the allegations HAD to be true-I mean why would anyone ever lie about such a thing?

Yeah, I didn't expect there to be much additional info coming out. I will note, again, that while I wouldn't be shocked if these allegations turned out to be true, thus far we've basically only gotten reporting around a single letter related to a complaint filled by an individual and said letter said "we are looking into your claims", which is pretty standard-issue stuff. One is entitled to assume the worst based on said claims (especially as it relates to a sexist and hostile working environment for women, which given life experience seems almost a given) but I do feel like there's a subset of people around UM sports who are being a bit purposely naive about what information has actually been released and is generally known vs. what they presume must be buried deep beneath the surface of Yost ice arena.
In short not much new information but I do get a sense that the AD is handling this situation appropriately.

Have I missed something (don't remember hearing about someone leaving on bad terms)? Do we know who it is?

The tweets say the person was fired in August, but as a board member who does not really follow hockey, IDK who that is.

Probably a staffer or trainer or someone else we never hear about.

OP in the initial thread implied he knew who the accuser was and said the allegations were not to be taken seriously FWIW. I don’t know the OP so I cant say whether thats true or not

cough cough *Steve Shields* cough cough

I thought you meant the OP was Shields, but see my comment at the bottom of the thread. Apparently Shields is our prime suspect. Kind of sad.

Whatever the outcome, at this point it’s important to handle it right.

So we got one side earlier and now heres Mels side
I suppose id be surprised if the allegations were entirely false. Seems rare for something like to occur even if it is a disgruntled ex-employee. I assume at least some parts are true. The covid allegations seems quite plausible. The hostile work environment and retaliation against a player seem reasonable too I suppose? Time will tell
Having said that, it feels unlikely any of this is largely true or representative of a larger problem unless you’ve concluded Michigan hockey is an evil empire and theyre just burying everything. The allegation was referred to the law firm in late October which means this has been on the ADs radar for 3 months at bare minimum. No coach has been put on leave. Half our roster could immediately leave for starting positions in other leagues and no ones gone. Doesnt seem like a super toxic environment is very likely

is there a goalie coach on staff this year ?

Interesting to compare the coaching staff between this year & last:

Mayotte, Shields, Hunwick, and Durkee left. Mayotte took a promotion at Colorado College and probably has better things to do than fling shit at Michigan. Durkee still seems to be with the AD. Hunwick's LinkedIn says he left in April 2021. He got a job with the Rangers in July. Can't find anything current for Shields. If anybody on the 2020-21 coaching staff, actually got fired in August, it must've been him.
