UM - BGSU - Hockey Thread
Hockey looks to get back on the right track after a disappointing season-opener again Mercyhurst. Hopefully BGSU can do the same thing for hockey that they did for football! No liveblogs anywhere, so I thought I'd start up a little open thread here.
Audio is available at Mgbolue.com, video at http://www.b2livetv.com/partner_members.asp?id=283 ($7). Also, Comcast Ann Arbor is broadcasting the game.
Sounds from the radio like we're off to a good start - no score yet, though.

they seem in control early
October 8th, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
From the radio, it sounds like the ref just made a questionable call, giving BGSU a PP. Time for some defense.
October 8th, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
And another weak call puts BGSU up 2 men. I don't know what's worse, the officiating or the patchy radio feed coming in from MGoBlue.
October 8th, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
1 - 0 BGSU. Thanks, refs.

just as i say that, Bowling Green scores on an appearent deflection
October 8th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
Hagelin 1-1
October 8th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
BOOM! RUST'D! Hagelin with a nifty pass to tie things up on the PP, 1-1.
October 8th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
Rust and Hagelin hook up on a give and go. Rusts with the goal...
October 8th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
a triple post?

Michigan 2-1

And, in other hockey news, the Mule has struck for the first time this season. Wings up on the Ducks, 1 - 0 in the first.
October 8th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
2 - 0 as Modano introduces himself to the Joe.
October 8th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
Mike Modano added a goal for Detroit very quickly after the first goal...Detroit 2, Anaheim 0...12 minutes to go in the first
October 8th, 2010 at 7:52 PM ^
Good to see Modano off to a hot start. I feel like he's a great pickup for us, and will really help anchor a 2nd or 3rd line.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
Merrill sets up Lynch for the goal, 3-1 early in the 2nd!
October 8th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
In the Atlanta/Washington game tonight, Atlanta's goalie collapsed during a stoppage of play. He was taken off on a stretcher. They worked on him for about 10 minutes on the ice before taking him off on a stretcher. No word on his status...
thoughts and prayers to him and his family
October 8th, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
Dodged a bullet there with the puck off the post, but BG now on the PP.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:26 PM ^
Ref.s are out of control here. WAY too many penalties, ruining the flow.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
tristen is in the game...of course there will be penalties
October 8th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
CCHA refs ruining the flow of a game? Never!
October 8th, 2010 at 8:37 PM ^
The penalties are out of control and Michigan seems to be getting called for just getting tangled up with a BGSU guy. It's almost like the refs are trying to keep Bowling Green from getting swept off the ice.

Z passes to Dats next to the net for the tip in...
October 8th, 2010 at 8:57 PM ^
How is that top line looking? As smooth as I imagine it? I'm glad Hudler's off to a good start, hope he can keep it up.
:: scratch that, I see that Holmstrom got a misconduct.. ::
October 8th, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
first and third lines looking real good. second and fourth still looking decent. overall the team looks very good.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
Michigan 3, Bowling Green 1
October 8th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^

October 8th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
sorry
October 8th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
Cleary on a 2-1 pass from datsyuk...it was originally no goal, reviewed and the wings got lucky on it because I do not think it should have counted....however, that is some owed karma to Detroit from the NHL lol
October 8th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
Nevermind, Damnit! Miami (OH) scored again 3-2 last minuet of 1st period
October 8th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
I'd really like to see us bag another goal here to put it out of reach.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:08 PM ^
The Wings go up 4-0 on a mystifying call by Toronto (I'm positive that net was off). Also, the refs for the Michigan game are Aaron and Brown for anyone who wants to know. I seem to remember Aaron being extremely incompetent last year.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
If the puck going in the net is obvious and imminent, it doesn't matter that the net came off. Basically, if it wasn't completely the offensive players fault the net came off, the puck goes in just after the net comes off and the motion of the net doesn't affect the motion of the puck, or cause the puck to go in sideways or something, a goal can still be awarded.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:14 PM ^
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:14 PM ^
with every other ref in the CCHA, and college hockey in general...but you are still probably right
October 8th, 2010 at 9:16 PM ^
Oh CCHA refs. Is college hockey officiating really this challenging of a profession?
October 8th, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
MSU lost to Western Ontario, 5-3, per Twitter.

Former Lady Byng winner Pavel Datsyuk! He held his own in a fight against Corey Perry, no one landing a big shot, and he got the takedown.
And the crowd went wild.
